169.99 - they seem to have black and blue when you click on the systems link under DS - but blue isn't able to add to cart.

ya, the blue is kind of a strange blue though, looks a little feminine to me. Also, the product says DS not DSi after you click on more info, but has the correct price and release date. I could see this being some kind of an error given gamestop always does bundles for system preorders.

I purchased the original DS on release date from Gamestop as system only and the Wii on release date from Gamestop as system only. They were both pre-orders and no bundle required. They did, of course, try to force extra controllers, games, accessories, etc., but they weren't required.

I'm guessing you mean in store, I know in store you could always just preorder the system, but online they're in bundles
wow what a ripoff for a rehashed system that doesn't even have a GBA slot...
yeah, that's the point. who the hell needs a GBA slot?

So $40 for a bigger screen, a camera and an SD slot. Not exactly a bargain but it'll sell like hotcakes.

Will Nintendo release a new Mario Kart game that takes advantage of the built in camera? I read about an arcade version of Mario Kart that allowed players to upload their pictures into the game. Virtual console is not that big a deal to me I have many, many gba games and two Micros and an SP. The Gamestop GB GBC clearance has been great and the games are playable on the backlit SP.

The built in camera, online capability right out of the box, bigger screens and smaller size make the DSi a tempting purchase.

With a SD card slot eh? That might be interesting... Still, $170? A lot of dough. I wonder if the SD card slot can be the new wonder i'm actually hoping for. Just imagine the possibilities :)
It bothers me a bit that it says "DS Black" on your order...makes me a bit nervous about getting screwed over.
It says DSi now, also the blue one is now up and working

I'm disturbed a bit by the note that it plays only "most" games for the DS. I thought it was going to play all of the?

However, what really worries me the most is the issue of whether or not you will be able to move downloaded software from DSi to DSi. If the DSiWare is bound to a particular DSi, as it is for the Wii, I'm going to pass on this because that is completely bogus. It might be passable (barely) for a console, but not for a portable. I can just imagine the fun as me and my kids have to pass DSi back and forth in order to play the right game on the right DSi. And if me and my two kids want to play the same game on our own DSi? We have to buy 3 copies even if we aren't playing the game at the same time. That makes the value disappear.

Hopefully they have taken this into account and DSiWare is loaded onto and run from an SD card and not from internal memory, and can be played on any DSi that you plug the SD card into, or perhaps can be installed to some limited number of DSi, ala Apple's system (which allows software to be installed on up to 6 iPod touches/iPhones, for example.) Nintendo just hasn't shown any signs of this kind of customer-first thinking, so I don't have my hopes up.

I already have a DS Lite. If I was going to spend that much money on another handheld, I'd just pick up a PSP for cheaper.

Anything using the GBA slot (i.e. Guitar Hero) won't work. I'm not aware of any non-GBA slot using games that don't work.

So have we officially recognized that the Amazon pre-order is better? At least THEY don't charge you taxes.

Yes, you are 100% correct. I was thinking about in-store, not online.

I think I am the only person who still carries a few GBA games with me on longer trips, since they were never remade for the DS. :( I would like to have the DSi, but no GBA slot is a no sale for me. Just can't give up some of my older games until they remake them, which is unlikely considering they weren't popular to begin with lol :(

That makes sense, otherwise, it will be super weird... Oh well, no more rumbling then, nah, i won't miss much anyway.

Unless Golden Sun + Lost Age somehow miraculously gets re-released on DS-ware or whatever, then I need my damned GBA slot.

I doubt it... It's Nintendo, look at the Wiiware games, it will not going change, because if the DSi has enhanced way to handle downloaded contents (like installation on multiple DSi) then the Wii needs to be able to do that too. The best bet is that there will not be any "full" games for the SD card. They can argue that DSi is a portable, the Wii is not, thus the games downloaded on the SD cards don't work the same way. Well, Nintendo loyalists will agree of course, but the rest of us, it's semi-crap... Trust me, there will be innovations for the DSi, by then, it will be a cool piece. When the day the DSi can load games off the SD card comes, the DSi will be an equal to the PSP.

The GBA Slot is vital for my M3 Perfect. The Slot-1 only flash carts are not as reliable yet. Once they are, then I might upgrade if DSi has proven to be worth it.

We are not suppose to talk about this but you are very behind as Slot 1 flash cards are fine.

after watching cheapy's unboxing video it doesn't seem worth it to me. Especially since I already have a DS Lite. I'd consider upgrading if it were under $150

Not for HomeBrew and not for the increasing number of games with copy protect built in, like Chrono Trigger. Slot 2 is still preferred among the GBAtemp community.

I'm not convinced about the DSi, but I'd take any commentary from Cheapy on anything Nintendo with a grain of salt.

That would have made me laugh in the clerk's face.

Gotta dsi (japanese) sold my DS lite. Wish i had kept it for the occasional ds & gba on the go option.
I think the best way to enjoy gba on the go is still the 2nd gen gba SP (with the ds lite quality screen) but who wants to tote 2 systems?

I suggest anyone getting a DSI consider holding onto your DS lite as well instead of trading it in if you can, just for the gba option. (Unless of course you don't play GBA.)

eh, not really, Amazon charges NYC taxes... Besides, if you have GS credits, you can apply them on the DSi. Best part? No taxes :) (your trade in games are taxed, that's what i think).
there is no reason to buy a dsi if you already have a ds lite just a waste of money
Not really.
With DSi you can get DSi ware, the unit is lighter, has a wider screen and two cameras, store and play music...

Wow, sorry I don't exclusively play the newest greatest games. I play old games more often than new ones, and don't even own a current-gen console yet (though I have games on the shelf waiting for when I do).

Until a game I want that is only made for the DSi and is not compatible with the DS Lite comes out then there is no need to buy this system. I don't see any DSi exclusive cartridge-based games coming out yet for the system even in japan, just a bunch of gimmick applications. When Nintendo can show me that there is a solid library of DSi exclusive games (preferably retail and not download releases) for the system is when I will purchase it.

The DSi also has less battery life and WPA support does not work with normal Nintendo DS games from what I understand.

Nice! I have the Black Japanese one now and it so addicted! Make sure you buy the warranty in case something fucked up, because last year the screen froze and couldn't get the touchpad to work So I had to return it back to Japan for replacement.
