EA Online Pass & Gamefly

With the EA online pass in effect starting this year with all the sports titles you need to buy the game new to use the code. But if the code has already been used you have to pay extra money.

This has been discussed and how this would affect used games. I got NHL 11 through gamefly today. The message on the envelope said that there is a 7 day trail through xbox live, but not the full download pass is not available through renting.

IF you purchase the game through gamefly (at the discount of course) you get the online pass.

I am glad they are not screwing over people by allowing the first people to rent the game get access to the pass or if you buy it and you have to fork out extra $$ to play online.

I am curious about anyone's experiences through a store like gamestop. Just wondering. I assume its without the online pass code if used. But I am wondering if there would be a price adjustment difference if the code was already used before it was traded in.

Like any of the codes that come with games these days (Nintendo, DLC, and Online Passes), it's up to whether the original owner used the code or not. I don't think GS will really alter the pricing since they would be passing on getting more money into their pockets.

Gamestop doesn't charge you any less for used games without cases or manuals, why would online play codes be any different?

A few years ago I bought the original Modern Warfare at Gamestop and they sold it as an opened case. I played through the game and returned it saying that whoever I bought it for didn't want it (my scumbag version of a DON'T SELL OPEN GAMES AS NEW protest.) The return went fine and altho they wouldn't give me a cash refund, they exchanged it for another new game (Mass Effect in this case.)

What is to stop someone from doing the same thing as me but entering the code and then returning the game to the store? I haven't shopped at Gamestop in a while (I pre-ordered NHL '11 from there but they made me jump through a ton of hoops to cancel when Amazon was cheaper) but I am assuming they still sell opened games as new.

Gamefly doesnt give out codes when they rent games and they always include all original documents. So buying used from gamefly is safe for online codes.

I recently got ff13 from gamefly on a sale and it came with a squarenix friends code slip in it that I registered and it worked fine. I bought sabeteur off there also and the included nude code work. And ds and wii games I got off there the registration codes for club nintendo always work.

Lamestop on the other hand I dont know about. I highly doubt they give a toss, not to mention since its people trading in already used games and they arent used because lamestop is renting them its purely a crapshoot as to whether your game will even have the code inside it, let alone if it hasnt already been used. Hell even their "new" games on the shelf arent safe from codes being taken. I was in a lamestop before and saw a guy pulling the slips out of darksiders that were "new" on the shelf, and taking pics of the code slips with his cell phone and several other games and leaving. So no doubt they were registered within the hour or sold on ebay.

Id rather buy used games from gamefly any day of the week since they are generally the same price as lamestop if not cheaper, their games always come complete in the original box, the stuff I get is always in pristine condition and looks brand spanking new, gamefly doesnt have used stickers stuck allover their packages and their shipping is almost always very reasonable and low. And on ebay I can see pictures of the items and ask questions before I buy and can usually find games a lot cheaper on there.

just got madden 11 used from gamestop 50% off for $20, online code wasn't used, so its luck of the draw
