EB Games check for working hardware?

I'm just wondering if "Some Dude" had a broken Xbox/Gamecube and decided to take it to EBGames one day to see if he could trade it in if he would get credit for it... Do they check the hardware when you are trading it in? I know that I have traded in systems before that didn't work the way they should have and they didn't even check them. Also lets say this "Guy's" Xbox was once opened up and can easily seen that it has been opened up before; would they take a second glance at this guy's Xbox and say that they could not take it or perhaps test it out and see that it doesn't work, or would they gladly give me the store credit for the broken piece of crap?

thanks!

i do believe they check the system ive seen people trade in their system and they checked i out at the store but sometimes they do run promotion where you can trade in dead systems.

If you open it, they won't take it in no matter what, even if it's dead.

I had opened mine to try and fix it, couldn't, and tried to take it in to EB and trade it in as a dead system (they give 30 dollars credit for dead Xbox's) and the guy turned the system over, and examined all the black cushiony material where the screw is.

Even though it *looked* perfect, he was easily able to pull it back with his finger and said "Nope, opened, can't take it in". I was a bit surprised, since it was completely dead to begin with.

I just took it home and threw it in the garbage, since it was just taking up space.

But trying to trick EB into taking it, that's dealing with some shaky water.

Its extreme YMMV.

Last Xmas during the "trade a preowned working Xbox & 5 games and get $150 in credit" they DID check my Xbox. They plugged it in and started a game of Halo 2 and made sure everything was fine before they accepted it.

Last week when I took advantage of the "trade a preowned working PS2 & 3 games and get $100 in credit", they didn't. The guy barely even looked at the PS2. He just scanned it in the system and gave me my credit.

Luckily for him the PS2 I traded in worked fine. I'd imagine that guy is taking a lot of broken systems.

Depends if you got lazy ass employees working. Usually the EB's I go to will test them unless they're busy.

As for opened system, don't even bother taking it up there.

Dead systems will get you less, but at least you'll get some money out of it.

But if you tell them it's works fine and it doesn't get tested at that time, just remember they have your information from that transaction.

You threw it out? You could have gutted it and made something cool of out of it, I bet...

Dont be an ass and try to pull a fast one on EB. If its broken and you want some cash for it, check LLama.com. He gives $50 for even opened ones.

And just so you know, they are going to check it. Most of the time they even have games that certain machines struggle with (lauch xbox titles or blue ps2 games) So yeah, they are gonna bust your ass.

Another thing Id like to know is why other CAGers are even giving this dirt bag a glimmer of hope? I mean isnt it obvious hes of low characture when he says things like
"or will they happily give me credit for this broken piece of crap"

and uses "Some guy" references?

OP, youre a jerk. The rest of you giving him any reason to think he might pull this whole thing off arent looking so hot either.

Just sent it off to the LLama store, theyre givin me $50 for it, pretty good. I have a relative that works with the post office so i was able to get a box and some packaging foam for free!

Oh, I messed around with it alot, but eventually just ran out of time and space... it was more conveinent for me to just throw it out then mess with selling it as broken / gutting it anymore than I did.

Like I said, I was at an EB LAST WEEK turning in a PS2 (which did work) but the guy didn't even check it. So some employees will take a system without checking it. I'm not saying he should've tried or he could get away with it or anything, just relaying a story in which the system wasn't checked.

i tried to trade it my ps2 over at gamecrazy and it wouldn't play blue disc games, so they went and told me to open it and clean it and they would take it worked, i just cleaned it out with compressed air and it worked easily, and even though it was open they took it.
