EB versus Gamestop.

CAGiversary!
Which one of these do you prefer? Im pretty sure that know one has posted this yet since i did a search for it and went through the first 50 so of them. IMO, EB is the better store since whenever I go to them the people that work there and the customer reps are always nice, where as the other store is horrible. EB also seems to be the cheaper of the two and has more 0of a selection when it comes to used and new video games.

I'll say it depends. Usually Gamestop gives more for trade-ins like their extra $3 deal going on now and they usually give more credit on older releases than EB. But EB's prices on older games are a few dollars cheaper than Gamestop's. I also like Gamestop's pre-played exchange deal. If you buy a pre-played game you can exchange it within 7 days if you don't like it. But EB usually has more deals on Pre-Played games like their current buy 1 get 25% off the next. I could go on. It really just depends on each individual store and the specific deal and whichever has the nicest store employees. Judging by those I usually go to Gamestop.

It really matters like SoulEdgeVII said.

I have a Gamestop in my town and the closest EB is in the next town, along with two more Gamestops. I don't do too much trading, or buying used for that matter. EB online has better deals. I've never really had any problems with either of the two. i've gotten better deals out of EB and none out of Gamestop. like the people at gamestop more though.

Online=EB, B&M=Gamestop.

Well.. the GameStop here is pretty horrible. Their game selection is severely lacking and the people working there are normally too caught up in themselves. Not willing to help you if it involves moving a few ft. from the counter.

EB has friendly and helpful people working and usually lots and lots of stuff to choose from. So yeah.. EB is my choice.
Neither.
Really!
if given a choice of GS,EB, GR/BB,Best Buy,CC and others i would go with GR for trading, Best Buy,CC,Fry's for new stuff, and target clearance

I don't have any Gamestops too close to me, but I have 4 EBs which I can get to fairly easily (2 malls, 20 minutes in 2 different directions, 2 EBs at each mall). Three of them I'm really indifferent to, but one of the EBs has awesome employees, so I usually go there. But I go there to find more of a hangout spot to chat about games with people than a store, since the really great deals aren't usually at EB.

I don't do trade-ins (ebay's always better). I've always had better experiences in terms of customer service with ebgames, both B&M and over the phone. Plus gamestop sent me a nonworking used DC game more than once (but I never bought a used DC game from EB, so it's not really a fair comparison.)

While I don't shop at either of the B&M stores, EBgames.com is always good for some temporary price drops on items, OK promotions, and some decent sales around the holidays.

i like gamestop better for their trade ins, eb doesnt give good games unless their complete even if they are Gs tradeins are better, but Eb prices betters are better so....

I vote for Gamestop just because my buddy is the manager there and I get all sorts of stuff for free that I wouldn't get at EB. Other than that though, both places have been great to me down here.

I do most of my online shopping at EB and Overstock. I go to GameStop in the mall for games that are hard to find .
They both suck ass. 'Oh, $5 store credit for a game I paid $50 for?'

Screw game trade-in stores. Ebay is your friend.
If you paid $50 for it, and they are only offering $5, you either paid much more than you had to (well, that is pretty clear if you paid $50), or you have had the game for a long time. They give more than $5 on almost all current releases with MSRP $50. But, yes, eBay/half are good options to get more for your old games.

It depends. You need to check out both at any given time to determine who has the best price on what you want.

They both have 10% off saver cards. Ebgames has Pre-owned PC games. Gamestop usually has a "Buy 2 get 1 free" special on used games.

It seems that GS gives more for trade-ins.

I dunno- they're both ok. ****Except when they sell you one of their "display" box games (open) at a new price of $50! That tends to piss me off.

^^The $50 for $5 thing was just an exaggerated example. But it isn't far from the truth. And yeah, I rarely pay $50 for a game.
gamestop sucks ass they're all jerks and have no clue about anything
Well, that is about as accurate as most sweeping generalizations (i.e. not very). I have no problem believing that your GS is like that, but the people at the one that I go to are pretty cool and knowledgable.

This is the easiest poll for me to vote on. EB wins hands down in my area. I constantly go to all three EB's located in the Fort Wayne area, and the employees there are very nice and I've gotten a lot of great deals from them. I have a gamer discount card there and use it all the time. I've been to other EB's around the U.S. and liked every one I went to. Their selection at just about every store I go to is really good.

Now with Gamestop, there are two in my area but I've only been to the one located in the Mall, since the one located on the NE side just opened. I've had nothing but problems with them. They've tried giving me display case games when I see they still have a sealed copy and they yelled at me for wanting to see another used copy of Onimusha since it was a Blockbuster copy. I've argued with an employee long ago who dissed Xbox to a customer, although I'm not an Xbox fan, but like it. Seriously, I've seen more than 25 new employees at my Gamestop/Babbages in the mall in 3 years. It seems like every time I go in there, there's a new employee. I've seen the management change all the time. Not just the employees, mine over charges on games all the time, especially used games. I only buy a new game at Gamestop when I'm desperate. The selection of games at my Gamestop sucks.

i RARELY buy anything from EB, but I regularly pick up "used" game guides from gamestop, and I picked up a BRAND NEW sealed copy of Dance Dance Revolution Disney mix a couple months ago for 25 bucks 8)

Ya know I have found some pretty good deals at EB. It's rare and it doesn't happen that much any more, but some times I'd find some big boxed PSX games for like $4.99 or cheaper.

Like Raiden Project, Jumping Flash and Return Fire which are all great games.

neither store has earned my loyalty in terms of service, price, or convenience, and so i really only shop online between the two when i see a deal that is worth it pricewise

there are more gamestops close to withing 5 my miles where I am. As for EB games they have better deals, but I have to driver much more and its just not worth the hassle as the price of gas is so high these days. So it all depends how far they are from you I guess.

I've been looking for that game for who knows how long and can't find it. :x I just love DDR so much and have been wanting to dance to Disney tunes.

I like the topic, very interesting. I always sell my used games on Ebay, both Gamestop and EB are horrible when it comes to trade ins (although I do think GS gives a little more). When it comes to buying games I almost always go to Gamestop, their prices are better and their buy 2 used and get 1 free deal (plus another 10% off with their bonus card) is unbeatable. In general Eb and Gamestops prices are the same, although for really hot game Eb tends to charge a couple of $s more, i.e. Ratchet and Clank Going Commando is $36.99 @ my EBs and only $34.99 @ Gamestop. I also find that EB tends to gouge you on hot hard to find games; the Legend of Zelda Collectors Edition sells for $50 @ EB but only $30 @ Gamestop, the same for Rez, $50 @ EB and $30 at Gamestop.

Like Raiden Project, Jumping Flash and Return Fire which are all great games.
Raiden Project and Jumping Flash are 2 of my favorite PS1 games in my collection (and yes I have the CLUNKY cases too)

Jumping Flash was one of the more UNDERrated games IMHO :)

GameStop gets my vote. I have two near me as opposed to only one EB, they're closer to other places I go (EB is not near anything), and they have the $2 used guides. They have also sold me a number of penny guides whereas EB has always refused to sell me any of theirs. Plus, the GameStop employees are never nosy and have never launched into sales pitches.

I never had the chance to play Raiden Project, since it got expensive the time I figured out it was on PS1. I have loved other Raiden games and most vertical shooters. :D
i like them both equally
same here. i've liked employees at both my eb's and gamestops. i guess i'm one of the lucky few

too bad the same can't be said for my local fye!

I prefer EB over Gamestop myself. A few months ago I went to buy RE 2 for Gamecube and it was their only copy left which was on display. She said its new and all but when I bought it and left, there was no book. I was pissed but didn't want to go back and complain over a manual.

And just yesterday(monday), I called many different stores to check on ESPN NFL 2k5. My god Gamestop people are annoying, kept saying something like "this is madden headquarters" trying to convince me to preorder it. I'm not happy that they are convincing me to buy a sh*tty game like Madden when ESPN NFL 2k5 is almost out.

Gamestop will be the last place I buy stuff from now on.

online shoppin is definatly the way ^_^ but in MN i pick gamestop cause all the eb games around there realllly suck.. but in cali seems to be well eb is better? lol .. should have another option for online shoppin

I hate them both, I get new games at Best Buy, if they aren't there... then I'll shop online wherever I can find the best price, Gamestop and EB are my last resorts... they suck, where else can you get this response?

"you can't return a broken game if you bought it NEW" ~Gamestop employee

I like EB better than Gamestop, because the employees seem better informed. It's really the lesser of two evils though...

And I'm starting to dislike EB.com more and more since I just got my SECOND resealed game from them sold as new. That bad business practice has to stop.

So get this :

I went to EB yesterday to get ESPN 2k5. When picking it up the register monkey asks me "are you planning to play against people?". I go, "well yeah". He goes "You got a memory card?". I'm like "dude, it's Xbox, no I don't have a memory card".

So then he goes into this big spiel about how I NEED a memory card for the V.I.P. system so I can transfer my profile over to a friend's house.

I go "uhm, if I go to a friend's house, why would he need my V.I.P.? Chances are I'd be going over there so I could play him, not let him play a machine mimmicking me".

He just stared at me as though I had another arm growing out of my head. I think I completely threw him off guard with that.

Then I go "besides, I'm only going to play against people on Xbox Live anyhow".

Took my game and left quickly, before EB boy had a chance to throw another retarded excuse at me as to why I should buy a memory card.

it's all about personal preference, and the local store quality. My local ebgames is run by a bunch of jackasses, while my gamestop is pretty cool.

I would have to go with EB based on their online deals/availability and their occasional 9.99 in-store sales. The only negative is how they occasionally try selling me a "new" game that was obviously an opened store copy.
If Gamestop would run a few more sales on newer titles I would be willing to give them a shot since they are much closer to my home.

I shop at both, depending on who has the better deal. Since EBgames is closer I usually hit them most of the time. But if I'm near gamestop I'll stop in. So in other words, I don't really care which ever is closer at the time I want to buy a game. But I like Ebgames Online shop much better just for the fact Ebgames gives used games with cases and manuals, while GS doesn't guarante and EBgames always have better sales Online (Most of the time).

So Online stores I like EBgames.com better, As for the store I don't really care there pretty much even on prices.

They both try to sell you preorders you don't want. EB tries to sell you Mad Craps accessories, and that makes me angry. But in my area, Gamestop is employed by a bunch of incompetent idiot jackasses that don't know shit about anything. I'm all about the independent store. I loved funcoland before Gamestop murdered it. Heartless bastards.

Gamestop sells a wider variety of figures. EB does too but in a smaller extent. But, to our benefit, Gamestop doesnt sell thier figures very well and often sells thier stock at 50% off or buy one get one % off deals.
