eBay Auction Gone Weird - Help!

Ok, so I recently sold a video game on ebay and received feedback from the guy. It was positive feedback that stated "thank you ! i realized i sent the item to my old address haha sorry ! A++". So I'm thinking "Is this guy content that he didn't get this game he paid $40 for?" That fb was left on wednesday. I checked the DC and it said it was delivered on feb 14.
Today I go to my mail and discover the game he won returned to my address! There was a label on it with "Not deliverable as addressed - unable to forward" checked off. It also said Return to Sender. Now what I am wondering is my next step. I'd like to offer the item to him again, as long as he pays for shipping, since it was his fault, but I dunno. I looked at his feedback and he's been a member since sept 2007 with 4 positive feedback and the most recent one being a negative that read "dishonest buyer, sellers beware". This bit has me concerned. Is there anything that this guy can do if I keep the game? I don't think he knows that it was returned. I want to get the game to him, since he did pay for it, but at the same time I don't want this backfiring on me somehow if I do work something out and ship it out again. Like I said earlier, I've never had this happen, so I'm totally lost.

I haven't contacted him yet, because I wanted to get some info on this situation first, because this is a first for me. Any advice or info would be appreciated.

Well it is only right to contact him and say you got it back and that if he pays for the extra shipping you would send it to his current address. I dont think that just because he got a recent negative feedback from a different sale that cancels your transaction. I think the worst that can happen is that you have to pay for shipping, which isnt that much to be honest. But he did buy it and you should deliver it to him.

Well for this item, the shipping will be about $8 which kinda stinks. I guess I'll contact him, it's just that I don't know a lot about what people can do to scam you through paypal. Maybe I'm worrying too much.

How is it $8 to ship a video game? Let him know the item was returned. He's going to find out eventually so your best bet is to contact him before he believes you to be a dishonest seller.

This is a bad situation.. give him a refund. Ask him to do the buyer/seller mutual agreement so you can recoup your selling fees. If he still wants the item tell him you can relist it for him. If you send it to him now you are screwed. It is an old scam that people use. If he offers to pay shipping to him don't do it. If you can't confirm shipment to his confirmed address on the original paypal payment he will easily get his money back through paypal.

Thanks for the advice. I thought there might be more to a situation like this. Is there an actual way to refund other than just sending the money his way?

Yes on the paypal payment option (click on the original payment information) there is an option that you can give a refund. I would give him a refund minus shipping. Before though talk to him about a mutual agreement so you can recoup seller fees and tell him you are willing to give all the money back minus how much you are out for shipping.

Trust me on this...he isn't going to be happy with simply not getting the item and losing his money. Even if it is his fault paypal will side with him.
