eBay Auction Question

Ndolger

CAGiversary!
Is it against the TOS to email bidders who have bid on another auction indicating that I have a similar item available for purchase, or is this considered spam? I don't want my account banned, but thought it might be a useful tactic to draw attention toward an item that you "know" the person is already interested in.

There is only one other item on eBay that is what I'm selling and I thought it would be beneficial to wait until the auction is over, see how much it goes for, and send out an email to the next closest bidder; and set a similar BIN price.

Anyone ever done this? Obviously, if eBay allows you to contact other members, surely this is fine, right?
Actually, once an auction is over, you can send a Second Chance Offer to the second highest bidder.
Yeah, I know, but I'M not the seller -> I can't sent a SCO.

Unlesss anyone can offer a SCO, which I didn't realize you could do.

I dont think you can, wait until the last few hours of the auction, take note of the price, set your BIN and when the auction closes the losers will get an email which lists similar items.

Its your best bet, you could of course send the second place user a direct notice, but you risk getting in some sort of eBay TOS trouble.

I do this all the time and sell a lot of rare stuff that way. As long as you email them to tell them about another item on ebay I don't think ebay will have a problem. The problem comes in if you email a bunch of people trying to sell something off ebay. As long as they get their fees, they're happy.
Well, since nobody had any knowledge if was against TOS, I looked it up myself. And yes, it is against eBay policy.

Unfortunately, I already emailed the guy, but at least I know for future reference.
This only applies to sales made off of ebay. If you conact an ebay member, to tell them about an ebay listing, it is OK. It is NOT OK to contact an ebay member to sell someting off ebay.

OK

Hey man, check out my ebay item number 47029740978023

NOT OK

Hey man, I'll sell you one of those at $40.

I recently brought something that is rare to most people and after that a guy decided to offer me his stuff which was the same item but slightly diffrent.

it is okay to tell a ebay member who lost the same item in another auction that you have the item in a auction or the item is also spoted elsewhere.
Then again you might want to watch how you say it and consider that they also know this or wil find out on there own.

However saying hey I wil sell you the same item for the price you last bid at
might be wrong.

However you can't say " Hey buddy I have the same item but it's not on Ebay"
