this is now the second scammer/scumbag I've encountered on ebay:

So I had a user contact me after purchasing an item, saying to ship to a different address, I originally wasn't going to but they seemed really nice about it and claimed they had just moved and hadn't switched their address over on paypal/ebay yet. They assured me that they wouldn't go through all that trouble to steal a game for $20... I agreed that would be kind of a stupid thing to do, forgetting that thieves have no point too low for them.

I told them there may be a delay on shipping due to Hurricane Sandy, they said it was no problem and told me to be safe. I ended up going through with it, as they seemed completely genuine.... They proceeded to open up a fraud case with paypal, get all their money back, kept my game, and then even deleted their ebay account so I couldn't even leave feedback. I have contacted both paypal and ebay and both told me there's nothing they can do, even though I took screenshots of the messages and sent them to paypal, took a photo of my USPS receipt and had a tracking number. They claim that unless you can prove you shipped to the address on the paypal account, there's nothing they can do. I'm thinking to myself, the evidence is right there that this person is a fucking scam artist... but somehow I am the one that's in the wrong, for bending over backwards for a customer I am the one that gets screwed... absurd.

I guess the moral of the story is, never ever ship to a separate address from the one on file with ebay/paypal, even if the buyer seems genuine that they made a simple mistake and didnt switch their address over before purchasing, they will side with the buyer regardless of the buyer asking you to ship to a different address 100% of the time.

It's just scary how easy it is to get screwed as a seller on ebay, this person had 100% positive feedback too with over 50 transactions....

yeah i had a guy get a game for 7$ off me and shipping dispatch estimated was 2 business days so i go ahead and print it the label this morning i told him i would ship saturday. and i get message from him 20 mins later saying that it shows up as shipped if its not updated today Nov 9th im going to report you to ebay for misleading the customer anyone thats been on ebay knows that its an automated email. i was like ok i just refund you and save myself the trouble and he left postive feedback. lucky i had not withdrew the money yet. i had just met new seller payment hold this wk so i wasnt risking it. but rest assured after he left positive feedback i blocked him from bidding buy any more of my items.

I seriously think the Payment hold system is a fricking joke scam etc. cause everything goes well when your payments gets hold then you get them lifted it seems like once every 10 sales you get a prick that does that

Two basic seller protection rules of ebay:
1) ALWAYS use delivery confirmation
2) NEVER ship to any address other than the one listed in ebay/paypal.

Think of this as a lesson learned.

Probably a hacked account, as a lot more of them have been popping up more recently.

I hate the estimated delivery dates on EBay. I have 3 days handling time on my listings and even then the delivery estimates are unrealistic. If I put in my zip code, it shows an estimated delivery date on Thursday next week. 3 business days would be sending the item out on Wednesday (I would send it out on Monday probably) so they are automatically saying it will be delivered the day after I mail the item.

Best advice when dealing with internet commerce, not just eBay.

I had one who had their college address written wrong on Paypal (Paypal TOLD me the address was wrong and undeliverable), I stupidly corrected it because they had messaged me before buying to make sure I could send that day. Could days later they file a claim saying it never arrived even though DC showed it did and all that was different was the setup of their address!

I contacted other sellers they bought games from (over 10 games a day) and they had the same thing happen thinking if Paypal tells you you can't print a shipping label because the address is formatted wrong and its the same address but different format that you'd be covered.

Moral of the story? No matter what the issue/story ship only to Paypal address. If it is not possible to ship it to that address refund and cancel.

If the delivery address is the scammer's, you could always sign him up for lots of crap, post Male seeking Male CL ads, etc.

As long as the item showed as delivered to the same city/zip-code you would have won an INR complaint. It's an automated system that makes these decisions and they just look at the USPS / UPS delivery confirmation page and all that shows is the city and the zip code.

If they filed an unauthorized use chargeback claim then they do in fact look to make sure you shipped it to the address on the PP Invoice however you only need proof the item was shipped not that it was delivered.

Sorry to read this happened.

PLEASE post their names, ebay name, addresses in the fraud thread stickied above, might save another member from going through the same ordeal...
They scammed $20 game, they'll continue the scam ....

This is a pretty bad thing to happen. But I still find it funny (not haha funny) that people still sell stuff on feebay. I know that soccer moms would do it, but not cheapassgamers. And with Paypal going from taking 2% to almost 10%, you lose a lot. And then there's shipping.

Not only that, but with all the stuff that sellers have to go through on eBay and with eBay almost always siding with the buyer, I just don't sell stuff on eBay anymore. eBay is no different than burglars breaking into your home and stealing from you.

what?

PayPal takes $.30 for every transaction plus 2.9% off the total amount for domestic payments and 3.9% of the total amount for international payments.

The amount eBay takes depends on how you list, if you have a store and your seller status. But it is safe to say you will lose at least 10% (the low end) to 15% (the high end) of your sale on eBay.

Is eBay for everyone? Certainly not. But if you take the time to read the user agreement and take the time to know eBay for sellers 101 you can minimize the risk.

I'm pretty sure at the top of the list for things you don't do as a seller would be ship to an address other then what is on the PayPal invoice. I'm not trying to pour salt on the OP's wounds but I hope they learn from this and fortunately it was a relatively low value item.

Edit: And if you can think of another venue/marketplace that even gets 10% of the global traffic eBay does I'd love to hear it

Yeah this won't be happening again. And I do feel like ebay is taking a good chunk of my earnings... I just paid them $20 last week and now owe them another $30 payment at the end of this month... (I have been selling a lot lately though). And then not to mention the paypal fees which take their little cut of my sales as well, and then don't even protect me when something like this happens... What other avenues are there really though? This seems to be the most effective way to sell things online, as far as I know.

And I didn't even think to sign them up for a bunch of shit, I do have all their info after all haha.

Yeah accounts get hacked on eBay. I had one seller do a BIN auction for just a $30 game and asked me to ship it to Mexico despite the buyer being only in the states. I never ship internationally so I just told them flat out no. The message was really fishy and my instincts raised red flags instantly.

Yeah but sometimes craigslist won't help you unload on an item that eBay can offer. Amazon and eBay are convenient enough while they offer maximum seller exposure so you're essentially paying 15% for leasing out a seller's office space. I admire the eBay business model. They're essentially profiting off of an online reputation without holding any inventory. If anything, a little known fact is that eBay's Paypal business model is their most profitable operating segment (and not their marketplace).

The dickweed I used to work for still gets people looking for yard sales, the $500 Mustang, and other assorted things.

Never give employees your home address or phone number.
Positive feedback on buyers is meaningless since sellers can't leave negatives.
Yeah, there was one asshole in particular I dealt with. I tried leaving a cautionary warning in a positive feedback for him. He reported it, and it got removed. Taking away negatives from Sellers leaving feedback is one of the worse decisions eBay has made.

I agree. That's one of the biggest things I hate about ebay. That and their complete disregard for sellers. They actually permanently banned me for "Selling a beta key". It took me days of calls and emails to convince them that I was selling an actual game (Diablo 3) and not a beta key.

Although I did get suspended a few times for selling Dota 2 beta keys. Was worth the few hundred dollars though :p

Some drizzling cunt rag scammed me the same way, recently. Thankfully the item wasn't valuable.

I wasn't aware of this trick, so I feel kinda dumb giving her the benefit of the doubt when she requested I send it to her PO box instead. Never again.

In case any of her future employers would like to know of this eBay scammer, her info is:
