ebay shipping

Nitz

CAGiversary!
now im not sure if there is a cost not shown..

i paid around 6 bucks for a shipping of my game on ebay. Now the item came from USA and to me in Canada. I got the package and on the shipping label it says $3.71.

So now im curious? did it just cost $3.71 to send it too me>? meaning the seller made profit off the shipping? or are their extra costs not shown on the packaging label ??

I noticed 2 of my packages had about 50% of the price on it, for the shipping I paid to the sellers.

Not much profit made, if any. Bubble mailer probably cost about .99 plus tax...so figure the dollar and change left over went into the guy's gas tank to get to the post office :)

Shipping prices include shipping and "handling" fees. I'd imagine every person that sells a product on eBay (including myself) charge more than the actual cost of shipping because you have to take into account the cost of the mailing supplies (box, tape, mailers) as well as the cost of gas if you drive to the post office, etc. It doesn't really matter as long as you are happy with what you paid for the total cost.

For example, some listings you might see a product that has free shipping and suppose that game sells for $20. Now take that same game and suppose this time it has a $5 shipping fee. In most cases, that game will only sell for $15 because people are only willing to pay $20 total for that game. I've seen listings that had a $20 shipping charge but the auction only sold for 99 cents. Basically people are willing to pay only $20 total so it balances out in the end.

So you don't really need to feel ripped off if a seller charges more for shipping as long as you are satisfied with what you paid in total.

another one was $5 shipping and it took him only $2 to ship I suppose, atleast that's what it says on the package label.

I remember seeing 1 game just ONE the shipping is $22 o_O
I wonder how much profit he is making..

You can report auctions for 'excessive shipping and handling fees". If they get it and time and aren't too busy, they'll close the auction.
5 bucks to ship a game, not excessive.
20-22 bucks, excessive.

most american sellers can afford to add a few bucks to shipping costs especially to Canada as it rarely costs them over $2.50 for a game in bubble mailer to Canada. Whereas from me mailing the other way I can't add anything if I want to remain competitive as it actually does cost me over $6 to mail a game to the states.

i can see a game taking up to mabye.. 10 max.. anything above sounds like BS.. for 1 game... Usually they go around 6-9 from what I've seen.

BTW how do you report? there was a game I wanted to bid on.. but he wants 18.99 for shipping!!

it's at the bottom of the page I believe very bottom, in small print says "Report This Listing"

something along that line.

If you were fine paying the cost up front for shipping, why complain about it now? If you felt $6 was too much, you just shouldn't have even bought it - the fact that it only cost the seller $3 and some change to ship shouldn't have been an issue since you thought the original price of $6 was fair and seemed to have no problem paying it.

Like Kendro said, EVERYONE tries to make up for fees with shipping, hell, even real companies do it (the only one that I can think of that doesn't is Monoprice).

$6 isn't that bad. Anything $8 or over for one game is pretty high, even if you use Priority.

I do $6 for Priority Mail, once had a guy leave feedback that "Fast shipping, but too expensive" - wtf, why did you even buy my game if you didn't agree with my shipping charges? Nevermind the fact he got the game two days after he won it, either.

But  at sellers printing the values on the labels, that's a pretty huge mistake.

You should always consider the shipping cost when placing a bid, and just be sure that the total with shipping is the price you are willing to pay. I myself cahrge aboput 2$ over the actual cost for international shipments to cover gas and time to drive to post office. If shipping costs are just outrageous, you can click the report this listing link on the bottom of listing, but unless there are more than 3 days left on listing chances are ebay will not look at it in time to cancel the listing. The reason people overcharge on shipping is because shipping costs do not get charged ebay fees, so if the closing price of a listing is 5$ with 15$ shipping than ebay gets about 35 cents, but if same listing closes at 15$ with 5$ shipping, than ebay collect closer to 80 cents. This is why ebay cancels listings with excesive, as it is screwing them out of money. Myself, I dont mind overpriced shipping, as I feel that ebay gets enough fees already. That being said, I do not charge high shipping costs, as it tends to scare away bidders, and gets more complaints.

I have never had a piece of mail come from the states that didnt have the price of shipping on it. Weather it be from goozex, CAG, ebay or where ever else. They always have the cost of mailing on the little sticker in the corner.

Crazy, Paypal specfically has a box you can click that by default is on to "not show the value of the postage on the label".

Ya I've never had anything mailed to me with a paypal label, everything I send has one though. And for one reason or another canadian labels do not show shipping cost at all, there is no option to show it or not show it, it just isn't on the label.

you on crack??

i never said I ahd a issue with it.. i was curious.. and I don't mind that.. what I mind is seeing a game with 18.99 shipping..

Another I was looking at was 9.81, which is sorta.. somehwta high for 1 game.. unless they will combine for 2.

If you ship international via Paypal, you can only do Priority or Express.
I think it's upwards of $10 even to Canada.

I think most people just ship First Class, which you have to bring to the Post Office.

As a buyer, I keep it on rule that anything higher than $5 on shipping is typically items I avoid altogether. There are plenty of other sellers who won't try to kill you on shipping so buy from them and fuck over the people trying to make serious cash from charging $10 shipping for a NES game.

What's bad is that these same people who charge $10 shipping live Stateside, it is not like they are in Canada or anything.

As long as the shipping and handling cost is easily known to the buyer, the buyer has no right to bitch at all. If the shipping and handling cost is not easily known to the buyer, the buyer should contact the seller before bidding to find out what the exact shipping and handling cost is. Therefore, the buyer still has no right to bitch at all. Being gouged through shipping and handling costs sucks, but noone is making you bid. I really don't see what the problem is. It kills me that so many people out there have no common sense. The buyer does however have a right to bitch if he/she paid for a shipping method that wasn't used or if the cost of shipping and handling went up after the auction ended. Those instances rarely happen.

Yeah, I too charge handling fees. When I first started selling, I only charged for postage but slowly realized that it cost a lot more than postage to send a package. I also use any of the proceeds from shipping to pay off the BS eBay/PP fees.
