So, I sold a sport bike on ebay yesterday. I've been with ebay for years and sold tons of stuff and have never had any problems. Most of it has been general gaming stuff and anime, nothing too expensive. Selling that motorcycle was my first big sell. And, this being a big ticket, of course, the entire thing has gone wrong.

First, I state in the auction that the bike must be picked up. I can and will not ship a motorcycle. So, the winning bidder messages me telling me he paid the deposit and wants me to meet him half way across the country. Then I check my paypal account and there is no money. If he paid the deposit with paypal, as he and ebay claims he did, where is my money? Well, ebay sent the deposit to the wrong paypal address! I have been with paypal for about 8 years and have always used the same paypal account. And when I check my ebay page, sure enough my paypal account is tied to ebay. So, what gives? I call ebay and wait for about 20 minutes to reach a real person. He was a nice guy from India and explained the problem but had no idea how a different paypal address magically appeared and why it's linked to my paypal account. He said the only resolution is to have the guy cancel his deposit via paypal and then repay at my actual paypal account. This, after I message the buyer telling them that they must pick up the bike.

So, now I have to message the guy back and tell him to resend the deposit to the correct account. And he probably won't since I told him I won't ship the bike or meet him half way. Grrr....

P.S. I am wondering if my ebay account was compromised at some point. I have never had any crazy listings or bids, but it all seems odd.

Well, if you didn't changed your paypal address then it shouldn't be your fault...That means you would probably eat a negative with the buyer. The buyer could do a chargeback if he paid with a credit card.

Then again, the buyer could be lying to you. Tell him to send you a screen shot that shows he paid you.

Well, he said the sent the deposit and ebay confirms he did. So, I called ebay and talked to a guy there who confirms the money was sent. However, it was sent to a different paypal address. I got the address from the ebay guy and asked him how another paypal address could show up on my account and he had no idea. Keep in mind that I've sold tons of things on ebay and people have always paid me with my correct paypal address. Also keep in mind that the Indian guy that worked for ebay was just as confused as I was.

I would also like to note that even after all my transactions via ebay, this was the first time I ever called them. Hell, until tonight I didn't even know you could call ebay.
