Ebgames/ Gamestop PS1 Clearance--When?

Anyone think these stores will clear out PS1 games soon? maybe around the time the 360 launches or PS3 details become more concrete? Most of the stores around me have just been piling up ps1 games for quite some time....
 
As I posted a few days ago, a lot of prices dropped on gamestop.com for PS1 games, do a search for what you want and check it out.

Yes, but B&M locations need space.. think of GameCrazy's 3 for $15 sale.

Then those stores might be getting games from other stores in the district. Most of the EB's around me have already cleaned out their PS1 games.

Gamestop didn't do anything until they finally decided to stop accepting trade-ins for older systems. But EB B&M stores did mark down all their SNES & Genesis games when this current systems came out(if they carried any).

Yes, Game Crazy had to do that for many reasons. 1 They will not be building any more stores for a while. Before, excess stock was shipped out to stores that needed it, or brand new ones. Second, they will be closingt down 22 or so stores. Where do you think all those excess titles will be going? Back to stores. They had to clear out space obviously. And yes, I do know alot of this due to managing a GC store for 3 years.

As per EB clearing out stock...doubtful. EB opens up new stores all the time. However, with the upcoming will they stay seperate/will they combine, the future is unknown. I would'nt expect to see crazy deals the the Game Crazy one, but maybe a Buy 2 get 1 Free off PS1 games...if even that. PS1 games seem to hold their value fairly well, and they especially won't be clearing out the hard to find ones for dirt cheap.

So, no, don't expect any huge clearences.

Also, keep in mind, if games don't sell at a certain store, they will be shipped out to others. Many stores in the 'lower class' of America still purchase PS1, and can not afford the new generation hardware/games.
 
Gamestop and EB usually have a lot larger stores that Gamecrazy, and gizmogc is right, with backwards compatibility I would expect the PS1 games to have a looooong lifespan. I would expect to see something like an N64 clearance like they did for SNES, Genesis, and Dreamcast since the N64 is truly dead and the games might be distributed through the Nintendo Revolution console.
