EBGames voucher form with copy of UPC?

I think I've seen threads on here saying that even though EB's mail in voucher forms say they require the original UPC from the game you can actually take a photocopy of the UPC and send that in instead. Can somebody verify that?

I'd be especially interested in anyone that has done it this way (the more recently the better) and I'd be really interested in anyone that was denied the voucher when doing this.

Basically I'd like to avoid cutting the box art of my game if possible, but I'd do it if it's not likely to work with just a photocopy of the UPC.

I contacted someone at EBgames for exactly this about a week ago and they told me that a copy of the UPC code is fine. You don't have to cut it out from the box.

When they had 1080 and Wario World for $10 each and a $10 gift voucher rebate I sent in photocopies and got the voucher.

I've heard that the photocopies do indeed work, but they also haven't. 2 people here said they do though, so I would just send in photocopies.

Cool. I guess I'll give using a photocopy a shot.

I actually just sent them an e-mail myself asking about this, so hopefully I'll get the same response as dopa and then I'll have pretty good grounds to complain if they deny it.

Let me guess, the $10 Alias gift voucher?

On the Alias gift voucher, I figure that I wasn't too worried about cutting the UPC off of a $10 game.

Now, for another title that might actually have some trade-in/trade value, that's a whole different story.

Glad the 2 games/$20, game + guide/$15 gift vouchers they did last month didn't need the UPC from the box.

What I've done is photocopy the UPC and then carefully cut the original and replace it carefully with the copy . . . tape it from behind.

If you want to play it safe . . . my game still looks good but I know it will go through

I emailed ebgames.com recently when I did the Max Payne 2 and Alias rebates, and they said it was fine even to just write down the upc code.

Bingo.

I'm 99% sure I'll play through this one and then eBay it off and I'd rather not have to put in a disclaimer that the UPC is cut out (and I'll probably want to post a 2nd picture showing the 'damage' as well) if I can avoid it.

Though I sold a copy of Buffy Chaos Bleeds with the UPC cut out and it went for pretty much the same amount as the other ones.

Shrike, and as far as trade-in value I don't think EB knocks anything off for a missing UPC. I brought one in to my local one and the only difference was they had to do a manual search in the computer instead of simply scanning the UPC. At least the guy didn't say he was subtracting any money for the cut out UPC. (This was for one of their trade X games get Y free deals.)

Looks like EB's official policy is to allow copies, so that is great. Hopefully they e-mail me back the same info soon.

Actually, I didn't even send in the UPC code for the Syphon Filter Rebate. I just sent in the packing slip and still got the voucher.

Thanks for all of the input CAGers :)

I just received a reply from ebgames confirming they don't need the UPC. Guy said you don't even have to send in a copy. Just the invoice and the completed form. (Just like furor did.) I'll probably include a copy of the UPC anyway just cause it's no problem to get one.

Here's the message I got:

Hello from EBgames.com,

We used to require the rebate form, the receipt and the UPC code as
further proof of the purchase but you don't have to worry about the UPC
code anymore. As long as we have your rebate request form and the
invoice, which is a supplement to a sales receipt, you're ok.

If you have any questions regarding this, please give us a call at
1-800-800-5166. Our associates will be more than happy to assist you.

They really should update their form to reflect this new policy. I'm sure there are a portion of shoppers who pass on these deals because they don't want to cut up their games.

What the devil?!?!? When was that deal???

Anyway, I guess that I'll be calling in and changing my pre-order of Paper Mario 2 to add the strategy guide so I can get a $15 voucher. I didn't do that before because I thought I'd have to hack the game and book up.
Photocopies worked on Wario and 1080 for me. I also heard you could just write in the UPC code when you send in your request.
I wrote the UPC code on the orginal invoice they sent me when I got True Crime and they accepted it.

That was back in July when EB had a big summer clearance sale. Seems lately EB has had some lame online deals.

They sure as hell do need to update the rebate form to reflect this, since I sent those guys my UPC, which wasn't a big deal for me, but if they'll take a copy, they should say so.

I made color copies of the UPC before I snipped it, so I might have to do that. :D
