Emotion Engine Removal?

bo0

CAGiversary!
I've been thinking of buying a PS3 within the upcoming year or months and I wanted to know if the emotion engine removal for europe is a worldwide removal or purely region specific?

I don't own a ps2, I want to still be able to play games like God of War 2, what is a gamer to do? If this is to impact a large number of ps2 titles i might consider not buying a ps3 anytime soon.

It was always planned for everyone. Buy one ASAP to ensure you get an EE. However eventually the emulation may be better than the actual hardware, but we won't find out for a few weeks.
Regardless, you'd still be able to choose if you had an original PS3, so get to buyin'.

Damn, that really sucks. I'm really disappointed. I better pick one up. $600 though. I feel so dirty buying something so expensive that I might not even use that often.

Grrr. After seeing those GDC Playstation Home screen caps i guess i'll be picking one up over my spring break.

Thanks for the heads up mewthree

i just picked one up last weekend for the same reason.... right now we don't have a clue how software emulation will work, but since the rest of the system should remain the same (spec wise) then it's possible that now older ps3's should be able to do software emulation as well if needed , incase the EE breaks or something.... wow, 4-5 months for a 2nd revision is fast

This does suck. Question for you guys. So you buy a PS3 that has EE in it. It breaks you send it back to sony for replacement, do you end up getting a newer system without EE?

It seems to me since the first revision is going to be a small number of systems for the overall life of the system that 90% of PS3 will not have the PS2 chipset.

good question.... i would assume sony would send you whatever they have in stock.... which i would assume is currently the EE version for at least a month or 2 after the release of the non EE system....

It doesnt really matter if your PS3 will have the EE or not. The emulation will work just as well as the actual chipset. So if your rushing out to get a PS3 now just for the EE...its ok you can wait. The PS3's with an EE will not have an advatage over others without it.

Well, as of right now, the emulation isn't working as well as the original EE. I think 1000 games will work with emulator, which IS a lot, but I get the feeling that most of them are sports games, and the ones that *I* like which may not be as mainstream, will get overlooked. And unfortunately, Sony even said that backwards compatibility will take a backseat.

But if they remove the chip, then it would be software emulation only. Doesn't that mean that Sony will then be able to pick and choose which games to emulate, just like MS is doing with the 360? I would get one now so you can run most PS1 and PS2 software without any problems.

They're going to make the revisions worldwide in the future. If this feature is important to you, get your PS3 soon. I personally don't care about it.

yeah i was thinking about getting a ps3 sooner rather then later due to this...as I have several ps2 games, but I had traded in my system.

Damn. I really didn't want a PS3 at that high price, but I really don't want to lose full BC.

Still, I don't think I'm going to run out and buy one. If I miss the boat on the EE ones, then I guess I'll just have to keep my PS2 around.

I just bought a PS3 a few days ago, with this as a significant factor in my purchasing decision. It's not just the backward compatibility that I care about, it's the ability to use that memory card peripheral to archive all my PS2 saves on the PS3 hard drive. The announcement of LittleBigPlanet and my VSHG shipping confirmation didn't hurt either :)
IS there a way to tell the difference between a EE versus non-EE box?
The non-EE should have a new model number. Hopefully, it will be accessible to view from the box or something. Really, I think Sony is making a mistake changing the system so soon.

What would be the serial number of the EE serial number? and the non-EE?
