I noticed the "Calendar" link on the forum bar, so I clicked on it to check it out, and I saw all it does is show birthdays.

It'd be cool if other occasions/events could be put on there. I'm thinking game release dates in particular.
It'd be best if it was editable by the community as well (maybe CAG Veterans and above or something).

Thoughts? Feasibility?

I don't think it should be used for game release dates, but upcoming deals and industry events might be a good idea.

I can set it up so that the events posted go into a moderation cue before going live. We can give it a shot.

Edit: There are few annoying things about the calendar...the big one being if you post a ranged event (one with a start and end date), it posts the event on the calendar every day from start to finish.

Perhaps there shouldn't be any ranged entries. For deals that last over a period of time, the start dates and end dates should be listed as individual dates with the run time in the description.

Also, I don't see what's wrong with including release dates as long as they're grouped together. For example, when there are more than six birthdays the calendar creates a link to a separate page with all the birthdays. So with release dates the calendar could use "8 new releases" as a clickable link that takes the user to a page with all of the new releases.

The mods should have some notification of the events in the queue. I know Trakan didn't get any notifications about people requesting joining the Halo 3 board, which left a few people hanging for a long while.

And could the notifications be extended to the users? Maybe one could go into their User CP and say "I want to hear about events related to" with check boxes for the various systems, and then receive a notification similar to the "Unread PM" notification or at least something in their "What's New" menu when something about a system they checked off is added to the calender.
