EVGA 512MB GeForce 8600 GT $150??

I am looking for a new video card for entry into the directx10 generation, and also to squeeze a lot of performance out of my directx9 games, i wonder will this card do the trick? Some cag advice if anyone has this card would be very appreciated
 
ive read a lot of reviews that said this could hold as an entry card for dx10, running crysis smoothly with settings on high
 
What are the rest of your system specs, and what setting is your moniter at. I doublt it'll play any of those new games at max or high on a native resolution of a lcd moniter 20" or bigger. Will it run it fine, probably depending on the rest of your system.

my other specs-
19"lcd, native res 1280x1024
Intel pentium dualcore 2.8ghz
2gb ram
200gb hard drive
32 bit vista


im not worried so much about crysis as finally running FEAR with high settings (my radeon x1300xt just doesnt cut it) as well as bioshock and future source-based games. im running both fear and bioshock with good fps right now, so its not a processing problem, just that i need a graphics boost

currently about $280 due to high demand.
 
and because of low supply. Nvidia might have failed to anticipate the number of people who'd want this... or... they've got something else coming that they want to sell people on.
 
yea thats about 100 out of my price range, unfortunate, tho im not looking for a major upgrade, just something to replace my old card for this holiday season. is the 8800 really that much of an upgrade over a 512 8600 gt?

also, is there any good website to sell old hardware, or is it better to cross my fingers and hope someone will pick it up on ebay?
 
Yes, the 8800 is that much of an upgrade. If you can't afford it now wait and save up. You'll waste your money on an 8600.
 
Get the 8800GT it's the newest reversion of the 8800 series and blows away the 8600. The price is around $250.00 save alittle more up and get this card
 
the 8600 gt is pretty much the weakest dx 10 card around. for about 20 bucks more you can get the 8600GTS which performs significantly better than 8600GT. but im with others, if youre willing to wait a bit you can probably get the 8800GT in a matter of months for about 200.
 
im rather new to the tech side of buying a vid card, and dont want my $250 to go to waste, how do i check if the evga 8800gt will fit my pci express mobo?

What MB do you have? If you are worried since the 8800GT are PCIe x16 2.0 the PCIe 2.0 will work work with normal PCIe x16. Wait a couple weeks and the 8800gt 256mb cards should be showing up around the $200 mark.

my current is a 256mb radeon, after looking at evga.com, im liking the 512 gt superclocked

PCI 2 works with PCIe? great news! xD
 
after finding that the 8800gt outperforms every ati card out right now, and does so for half the price of the only card that outclasses the gt (the gtx), this is definitely the card ive settled upon. hopefully ill get my hands on one, ive read they're in short supply
