Expired gold, now where are my saves?

I was going back to play some Borderlands 2 on my 360. My gold sub expired awhile ago (months), and when I boot up Borderlands 2 it asks where to load save from (HD, cloud, etc.) and since my sub is expired the cloud save load option just asked me to subscribe again. I thought it would at least let me get my save downloaded back to my console. Any work around for issues like this? Thanks.

I'd say they are holding your saves hostage until you sub again.

Probably the easiest workaround would be to get one of the 48 hour codes and use it, then save to your console.

I don't think 48 hour codes work for Cloud Saving, unfortunately. This weekend is also a free Gold weekend to all in the United States and Canada, so if you cannot access it now and are from either of those locations it seems like you'll have to buy another Gold subscription. The saves are actually on your hard drive, as you lose 512mb of space for the cloud saving feature, but you won't be able to get to the without the Live Gold perks.

Wow this is good to know. I picked the cloud for Pac-man CE DX because my local save got corrupted. Now I guess I better find a way to save locally as well.

I just burned a 48 hour code, and like the above poster mentioned no luck accessing previous cloud saves with it. I am really far into Borderlands 2 so this really stinks.

There was a way to get a free month of Live, but I've read that recently expired.  Still, you could try to buy a 1 month Live card to get your saves.  It's a lame ransom, but an option.

I always use memory cards (or flash drives now).  There was a sale on the 8 GB one at the Microsoft store recently, though many other flash drives work fine (not just the 1st party types).

What happens to my game saves if my Xbox Live Gold Membership expires?

Nothing. While you can’t save games saves to the cloud with a Free membership, you can move saved games from the cloud to a local storage device regardless of your membership type (Free or Gold). For information on how to move content from a Cloud Saved Games storage device to a local storage device, see Copy, move, or delete content.

What I get from this is that you have to go into settings, then storage, and move the saves from the cloud storage on your hard drive to a USB stick or the hard drive. I read elsewhere that if the save is not saved locally anymore, you're shit out of luck, but I have not experienced this personally.

I stopped using Cloud Storage because it was just so slow for me despite everything else on Xbox Live working very well. I'm letting my Golf subscription lapse this year as well.

Thanks Spokker. I'll check into it.
Update: The saves were there. Haven't tried Borderlands 2 with it yet. Busy now moving them all back to my hard drive. Thanks again for the info.
