F.E.A.R. Director's Edition HELP!!!!

Tooboe-Kaze

CAGiversary!
It seems as though I can't install the game. The window saying "unable to launch installer" is always popping up. Anybody got any ideas on how to fix this??

[quote name='AshesofWake']might be your DVD drive? have you tried different drives?[/QUOTE]

I don't really mean what you mean by drive? Do you mean the DVD hardware itself?

[quote name='AFStealth']Maybe your windows installer isn't working. See if you can get an update on microsoft.com[/QUOTE]

alright, i'll try it out... brb.. oh... uh... where on the site can i find it by the way?

I really don't want to but I might have to. Thanks for the advice. It's just weird how the setup screen loads fine and the extras work. The only thing is I can't install it.

I would recommend making an image of the disc to determine if the disc is damaged. If making an image fails, then there's most likely something physically wrong with the disc, or something wrong with your drive. If it works, try mounting the image (using ALcohol or DT) and try installing from the image.

I tried what you suggested, but to no avail. Why is this happening?!?!?!:bomb::drool:

Pretty common problem with the DVD edition of FEAR. Try upgrading the firmware of your DVD drive. Your error is probably caused by SecuRom VU put in those discs.

I just wanted to say thanks guys. However, I do have questions about your suggestions. How do I upgrade the firmware on my DVD drive? Also, if I find the SecuRom VU, do I delete it? Sorry... I'm just so confused.

You need to find out the exact model of your DVD-ROM.

Code:
Right Click on "My Computer"
Select "Properties"
Select "Hardware" Tab
Click on "Device Manager"
Expand "DVD/CD-ROM Drives"

After that, take your model number to the manufacturer's website at look for a firmware update. Make sure to follow the instructions EXACTLY. If the upgrade is done incorrectly it is possible to kill the drive.

If you can't find any firmware updates on the official site do a Google search. See if there are any known issues or third party firmware.

Thanks a lot. I'll try it out. Quick question though. Will being well under the system requirements stop the installer from launching? (i.e. having 625MB RAM rather than the required 1GB RAM)

[quote name='KingDox']My copy of fear wouldn't install. I had the cd version and disk 2 would create a cycle redundancy error. Disk 2 I knew had to messed up since I couldn't make an image of it with nero. So I took it back to Best Buy and they let me get a new copy of the game (I was shocked at how easy BB let me do this.).

The second copy installed just fine. Here are the places I went to get help.
