CAGiversary!
I was wondering if any graduating high school seniors know which year you're supposed to choose when you start the FAFSA.

You choose the school year you're applying for.

Now, it would be 2007-08.

Well if you're graduating this semester and aren't continuing college then you're done and don't need anymore FAFSAs. If you're going to graduate school then just do the year like you normally would (07-08 for this one).

Thank you.

Oh sorry. I should've been more specific. I meant for high school seniors.

Ah, well I guess I should've assumed that rather than college seniors.

Then yeah, it's set up assuming the same kind of school schedule that regular-ass public elementary-high school uses so it's always the fall of one year and spring of the next that makes up one year of college.

Man, FAFSA doesn't give me SHIT, I'm poor as hell (unless the government counts a combined family income of less than $50,000 a year RICH).
If you were a pregnant minority with 3 kids already, you would be able to get all the money you wanted...

Median household income in the United States is around $46,000 per year. Out of 100 randomly selected Americans, your family is, bare minimum, wealthier than 50 of them.

Yes. You've clearly filled out the FAFSA page, where it says "WE LOVE TO OPPRESS ALL THOSE WHITE FOLKS! IF YOU HAVE MORE CHILDREN AND ARE A MINORITY, JUST CLICK YES FOR $600,000 IN FEDERAL GRANTS! PLEASE DO IT NOW, BEFORE WE HAVE TO GIVE WHITE FOLKS MONEY!"

Word. I wonder why I fill it out year after year, only to be given the same response...

The standard deviation from the population Mean income must be pretty large (which is probably a 'duh' statement, but, ya know).
It's sad to think of ourselves as "wealthy" (relatively)considering that we can barely make bill payments sometimes. I guess I'll do better next year, though, since my mom recently lost her job, and we're significantly lower than that. Lower than 20,000, actually. I pay for teh intertubes because I needs it for college, but other than that luxury is at a minimum.

Actually, it has a thing for ethnicity and if you have any kids I believe.

 Don't get me started on wealth distribution in the United States. That median average has been about the same (constant dollar amount) since the early 1990's. Considering the basic cost of goods and services from then to now, the $46K then made you a helluva lot wealthier than it does right now. I'm not calling you rich by any stretch of the imagination, but while *practically* you're struggling to pay bills, *relatively* you're better off than over half the population.

It's why I'm a bleeding heart liberal, but that's not a topic I'm prone to discussing here. Start a vs mode thread if'n you're really interested.

Below $20K per year (19K technically), a household is considered "in poverty." Here's hoping that your mom finds new gainful employment, and soon.

I'm aware of that; it wasn't my point. It was the absurdity of the "oppressed white male with no children" battle cry that I was lambasting. Furthermore, it asks you lots of demographic information (veteran status, disabilities, criminal history, etc.), and neither you nor I have any better idea how much those items score on what award you're offered than we do how much race and children matter.

Because its required for other forms of aid, stafford and private loans for example.

My wife and I basically cut our income last year from the year before. Our EFC is about 1530, so I'm expecting good things when the applications get reviewed and everything.

My parents combined get around 60k. When my brother was also in college I got more shit, but now it's like $300 and some federal loans (subsidized thank god).

It's a good thing I got my half-tuition scholarship though, I'll come out with a BS and only around $15k in debt while my brother went to a college he didn't get a scholarship for and has over $50k.
I fill out it every year to get my 100% tuiton scholarship from Florida Bright Futures. As mentioned above by jlseal.
Bright Futures is the single greatest thing of all time. Unfortunately, it doesnt benefit me :/

$50K is actually not that bad of debt considering the averages of many schools.

I know. IKIK. I wouldn't be able to receive my scholarship without completing the form; I just wish there was a quick "repeat" functionality to it... I know I won't receive any aid from the government, so can I just check a box that says so?
Actually, it has a thing for ethnicity and if you have any kids I believe.
I just posted that to stir up a little something, I figured he would come around and post a 3 paragraph essay about how wrong I am. But I have him on block, so I wouldn't know.
