Fake Craigslist Video Game Garage Sale Ads?

CAGiversary!
Hey guys,

This happened to me twice this weekend in which video games were advertised at both sales and when I arrived at the addresses, there were no sales to be had.

One sale said "huge man cave sale" and said there was a NES, GameCube and PS3 for sale.

The other one said they had a SNES, Sega Genesis, and 360 for sale.

This also happened to me once last year.

Has this happened to anyone else?

What is the motive of the person who is listing the fake ad?

Does this person want send the video game hunters to a different area so their route is clear for a day?

Let me know your thoughts.

I believe that it's to reduce the competition at another advertised sale that starts at the same time, but since the video games advertised aren't as good as the fake sale the resellers or collectors got the the fake sale. It could also be to send some of your competition to a different city, leaving you with less competition in the area that you intend to go to.

To lure unsuspecting, bargain hungry nerds in, render them unconscious, and then record their torture for the sexual gratification of wealthy Asian businessmen, who pay for the pleasure of such snuff.

EDIT:

There may also be cannibalistic midgets involved in some fashion. You can never really tell.

You say all that like its a bad thing. :whistle2:k What I do with my weekends is my own business.

I rarely check out yard sales anymore on craigslist for video games. someone always beats me to it.
I was thinking of posting fake ads to deter competitors.

Now the one competitor comes an hour early to beat everyone.........

I know where they are located. Just two of them. Found them on ebay....

Always be cautious of ads that post video games first; even if they aren't outright fakes there are some time-wasting yardsale hosts who will have exactly one game and use that just to pull in foot traffic. And back on the subject of fakes, just last week I ran into a no-show sale that was pretty bad. The place looked like a cross between an episode of Hoarders (with so much shit the garage doors couldn't close) and no less than four vehicles in front, each in the middle of getting a tire change or getting other work done. It literally looked like a chop-shop for some criminal enterprise-- the kind that has flies biting you while you stand in a deserted field.

lol, I guess that wasn't the worst either; one time I followed up an ad and the place looked like a condemned drug-house, no joke.
