Fallout 3 GOTY, for PC? Mod/user content?

BWS1982

CAGiversary!
Alright, finally the PS3 version on Amazon--via Target.com--is in stock again, and is about $45 after taxes and shipping. But now I'm about to order it, and am recalling all the benefits the PC version has (it's about the same price as the PS3 sale version from Target.com, so that's not really a pro anymore)...

I'm thinking of the better graphics obviously (I have an i7 920 w/ 6 GB RAM and a GTX 260) and some more customization I'd imagine. BUT, the PS3 version would allow me to be more comfortable while playing such a long game (I've never played any of it, and this has 5 expansion parts) and take it to people's houses to play/show them too (which is always fun, and a pro in my head), for now play on a bigger screen as well (PC monitor vs. living room LCD)...but then I've heard that there are mods for the PC version, a lot of them, and they're probably still coming. I'm basically weighing my pro's and con's and trying to feel out which way to go now that price is temporarily a moot factor.

I did some searching before posting this, and I just keep finding stuff on Fallout 3 mods and tweaks, but not much on GOTY version aspects, so are all those mods/downloads/user content compatible because it's just really the regular version with 5 DLC's and probably the latest patches? I'd imagine yes, but you never know. I am looking to see what way I lean, the PC version, or the PS3 version, and a big factor is if all those mods and tweaks etc...can be used with a GOTY version just as easily, and that I don't have to worry about compatibility.

Thanks in advance.

Yeah, with the PC most mods will be compatible with the GOTY version. You have to make sure whatever mods you are using are up to date with the current version (for example, old, rarely updated mods will be incompatible with patched version of FO3), which is nothing new for mods.

Not only will the game look better for PC, but there are mods that improve the textures and skins for the game.

But really, it just comes down to however you like to play. If you prefer the big TV, sitting down, lounging and playing, go for it. If you want to play hovering over your keyboard, go for it (but the game is fully compatible with the Microsoft 360 controller for Windows).

There's a little more in my "equation" than game performance and customization, so yes, it's not as cut and dry when forming my opinion when the prices are so close with a PS3 version sale.

Thanks again, guys. I'm really leaning towards PC version still, as I am quite a graphics wh*re and I've seen the difference for a high end PC running Fallout 3. If I had money to burn, I'd just get both, but that's obviously not the case.

Got it on the PC. I didn't really go mod-crazy with the game (yet), but since I have to share the HDTV with my fiance and a 12 year old, playing Fallout 3 on my PC allows me to have a legitimate "alone" time with my gaming PC...

It would be best to go with the PC version, since there are so many mods that add hours upon hours of gameplay. Just be warned that the game (for all platforms) has glitches that Bethesda has yet to address. That is the only downside. Other than that, you will not go wrong with Fallout 3. It is a solid game definitely worth the purchase. Playing the expansions now & they are pretty good.

Spoiler alert!!!!

Before I start Broken Steel, I'm gonna visit Megaton at night, stand on the highest building I can & unload a few rounds of my experimental MIRV (hehe). Then I'll shotgun/laser fire anyone who is left standing, raid their corpses & take a bite or two out of them. Then after a long days work & lugging their goods back, I'll report to Mister Burke & watch him & Tenpenny j-off as I annihilate Megaton from afar. :applause:

Only then can I start Broken Steel proper like.

Hey I just bought the GOTY edition. Do I have to uninstall the normal edition then install this one? I read some where there was a bug that prevented you from using your original release saved game files on the GOTY edition. Has this been corrected?

just get it for PC ... more mods so the game can be different every time you play and better graphics and such. Mouse / keyboard controls are so much nicer for this game anyways

Plus if you just hook your TV up to the computer it just blows everything out of the water.

Only issue with the GOTY edition that I know of is it takes along time for the disc to be read that has the expansions. The game installed fine but when I put the other disc in to install the DLC it never booted up. After reading online I found out the disc can take 10-30 minutes to boot up before you can even install it. Mine took about 45 minutes on a PC that isn't the greatest but is more then able to run the game.

Merry X-Mas.

I have not played F3 yet. I have seen others play it. In fact, one of my friends was playing it today on his HDTV from his PC....He had over 50 mods installed some of which were funny as hell. I can not see a good reason to ge the console version since you will be spending more $ and getting less in the end.

So I should go ahead and install a fresh copy then copy over the saved game files to the GOTY edition?

Your saved games should be able to work. No harm in installing a fresh copy though.
