faulty 360 ethernet port....

CAGiversary!
ok, so like a week ago or so i tried signing onto live on my 360 and im unable to get on, i run a test and it repeatedly fails on the first step, i tried googling this, they said to reset your modem, tried different cables, blah blah blah...i have 3 different cables, i tried each one, switched sides, reset my cable modem (i use the ethernet cable that came with my system directly connected from the cable modem my isp gave me to the 360) it still failed on first step, my friend came by and i tried connecting to the internet using his 360 with the same cables and my hd and it worked...so, MS wants $99 to fix it, obviously im not going to do that, i could buy a wireless adapter for $99, but their performance is mediocre...gow2 is coming out in less than 2 weeks, so, im looking at my options...

-i can buy an arcade 360 for $200
-i thought i can maybe try inducing red ring of death
-or, find a method to fix the port on my 360

i find that when i put an ethernet cable into my 360 after it clicks, it kinda pushes out, im not sure if thats the reason, or maybe if it's something internal

...does anyone have any help to offer or maybe what they would do in this position?

Try signing in to Xbox Live while pushing the cable in to make sure it's not pushing out too far.

There are usb to ethernet adaptors (I use one for my Wii since I don't have a wireless router) but I have no idea if they work with the 360 (my guess is no, but you never know).

If I remember I'll try it out tomorrow, but don't get your hopes up, I doubt it will work.
