For me, nothing matches up to the first time I blasted an Imp with the shotgun in Doom. It was like a religious experience. Chi-chick BOOM!!!

A very close second would be the first time I beat Dragon Warrior III and realized that the trilogy came full circle. What an amazing ending.

What about you guys, what are your favorite video game moments?

Running up Omaha Beach in MOH:AA
Destroying the walking Mech in Halo 2
When the dogs burst in the window (About an 1 hour into the game) in Resident Evil

Mine came when there were TONS of games I never beat in the 80/90s on NES... but when I played them at my veteran age in 2000, I easily smoked them...

I enjoyed beating Street Fighter 2 (SNES) for the first time. Nice sense of accomplishment.

Also, the first time I played Final Fantasy III. I felt like my eyes were opened at that point. Really a great game...now I'm going to have to go play it again.

Killing Bowser with my Dad when I was 5.

Playing nothing but Halo PC online for about 6 months or so every night with my best friend.
Not my favoite, but I liked the end to Ico.
"Before the credits roll" end? Or the "real" end? I like the "real" end.

The "real" ending is amazing. One of my favorites.

I meant what happens on the beach after the credits. Is that what you guys mean?

Yeah, I meant the beach ending. I remember a while back someone made a thread arguing that the non-beach ending was better, and thought it may have been you.

All time favorite, MMX3 the zero ending *spoilers*, Sigma has megaman x pinned in a corner with lava rising behind them and he says haha I have you x now I will invade your body or something to that effect, then the zero theme song kicks in and bam zero busts in behind sigma and slashes him with the anti sigma program beam sabre, I was like YEA ZERO.

-In starting my second playthrough of Shinobi (PS2), my gameplay looked nothing like the clumsy rookie version when I first played it.

Yeah I'm talking about the beach ending

Completely off topic, but does anybody remember Wrestlemania 8 when Sid Justice and Papa Shango were beating up Hulk Hogan for like, 20 minutes? Then the Ultimate Warrior theme music hits (he had been out for a few years), and he charges the ring. I don't remember my adrenaline ever being that high since! I'll have to put that in when I get home.

I'm not sure if I can pinpoint a single moment, but I know what I like. My favorite moments are when I do something instinctually and realize exactly what I did a split-second later. I call it "riding the wave."

This happens quite a bit in racing games with a very quick pace like Burnout 3 (nothing quite like squeaking by slow cross-traffic at 220 mph) and F-zero. Snowboarding and similar games also have the effect because I have to weave through obstacles. It will also happen in FPSs occasionally. It has even happened in Splinter Cell during unexpected run-ins with guards.

It all really boils down to the feeling that I have done something ultra-cool.

Now... where is my RE4?!! It better be here today, FedEx. Overnight already doesn't mean 2 nights, but it had better not mean 3...

First time playing Donkey Kong on Colecovision

First time playing Super Mario Bros. 3

Getting hooked on Tetris

Running down the snowy hill in Strider on Genesis

The day Sonic the Hedgehog came out (holy crap this is fast!)

Having Tekken2 tournaments in 96 (my wife was often champion)

When the T-Rex came out in the first Tomb Raider

Getting hooked on Bust-a-Move

The motorcycle scene in FFVII

The Dreamcast launch (ahhhh, good times)

First time playing SSX (four hours later...)

Many so-called "twitch" games will give you that feeling, often while dodging a hailstorm of bullets and enemies. Smash TV might be the greatest of these, but the early Megaman games sometimes can do that too.

Definetly the moment at the end of Super Metroid, when Mother Brain is kicking your ass, and the baby metroid flies in at kicks a little ass of its own......

great scripted moment.

Modern: Killing someone with a flying toilet in Half-Life 2 DM.
Curses to you! I was going to say that =). But my weapon of choice is the radiator. If you hold it upright you have a bullet shield and you can still see where youre going. Now all you have to do is crouch while they shot at you and work your way closer to them and then *BAM* instant concusion. =) I just wish you could grab peoples rockets like you can their plasma grenades... which is uber cool too... nothing like killing a guy with his own grenades =)

Probably when I first fired up Super Mario Bros. on my NES. I remember being amazed that a game so advanced and awesome could be on my TV in my house. (i.e. I wasn't at an arcade pumping my quarters away.)

More recently it would probably be when I first started playing Splinter Cell. It was one of the first games I got after picking up my Xbox early last year (after not playing a console game for probably 4-5 years) and I couldn't believe the atmosphere, graphics, and gameplay of that gem. I was amazed just watching the animations of Sam Fisher go through the motions in the training level.

My most memorable moment was in Final
Fantasy II (usa), Kain steals your crystal and takes off. I was actually sad and thinking how could he betray me! That was a good game.

I'm not sure what my favorite moment is, but I love it when I sneak up on someone in Halo 2 and kill them.
Its also pretty funny when in H2 swords multiplayer if I get to a turret and start firing at my friends and they cant do anything but hide. :)

Classic: Finishing the first game I ever beat ("Karateka" for the Apple II).

Modern: The Mysterio boss battle and the cutscene leading up to it in Spider-Man 2. If you don't know what I'm talking about, I won't spoil it for you. But it's amazing.

Duke Nukem Spoiler **:

At the end when Duke Nukem decapitates the boss monster and he go and takes a dump in his severed stump (his neck). That was a good one.

Picking up the NES controller for the first time, secretly playing my brothers NES whiile he was at school, and screaming my lungs out in joy the night I finally beat Super Mario Bros. on that same NES. I was four at the time. My (teenage) brother was pissed that I beat it before him! \:D/

Classic: The day SMB3 for NES finally arrived in stock at Wal-Mart. My mom took me there the minute it opened to buy it for me, and I can still remember clutching it as I left the store, thinking: "This is the coolest thing ever."

Semi-Modern: Playing the Mario 64 demo for the first time ever. This also occured in Wal-Mart. It was so far beyond the SNES that my hands trembled while holding the controller.

Modern: The ending of Kingdom Hearts.

multiplayer: anytime i win. (or we win)

single player: when i beat a difficult boss or level, and also when i finish the entire game.

memorable: completed story mode in f-zero gx, and all gold medals in burnout 2. (these two were so difficult, and satisfying that i actually stood up and roared in victory afterwards!)

When I beat Super mArio brothers 1. That is prob the best.

In the arcade, I used to pump quarters into killer instinct. I remember when I finally got some 40+ combo on someone while playing with chief thunder. Then I did his finishing move where he calls down lightning. Good gravy I felt awesome.
Then I think I got my butt handed to me the next round.

Falling down the snow in strider - man that game looked so awesome back then

When I flew with Mario in Super mario 3, that felt awesome

PLaying F-Zero on SNES- that game was so stinkin fast

Beating Kid Icarus on Nes- seriously, probably the hardest game I have ever played

Too many more to mention
I am getting all nostalgic.

I remember when I finally beat Bionic Commando on the NES. At the time, I thought that game was SO hard.

 nice one...

Moments:

Every time I play MGS, MGS2, and MGS3

Learning every move and perfecting them with Nightmare in Sol Cal

Learning every move and perfecting them with Bryan Fury in Tekken 3

First time I played Level 5 (Fear) in REZ... my god... body fluids cannot stay intact whenever I play this game...

Good call on this one. When you're up in the sky and the tons and tons of ships are flying out of the mothership, and each tick of the of your lock-on goes with the beat. Man, I want to play that right now.

Opening scene to FF6 when the score is playing as they walk to Narshe.

The first time I investigated that "little red worm" in the desert in FF7 and got my bleeding arse handed to me.

The fight with Luca in Suikoden 2.

Tossing my boomerang into that faerie fountain behind the water fall for the first time.

The first time you set foot down on the Halo in Halo 1.

Finally saving Mustadio!

Pulling off Lee's juggle Mist Trap glitch in a very important and watched match in Tekken 4.

And very noteworty is waking up at like 3 in the morning when i was younger and seeing my dad (who had never touched a videogame in life) downstairs trying to beat Bison on the original Street Fighter 2. I woke my brothers up, it was hilarious. He was like on his 100+ try. The next day he went out and bought Star Fox for himself, and didn't let us play till he beat it.

Classic: Beating SMW and LoZ:LttP for the first time. Love those type of endings

Modern: Beating MM. For some reason, I felt really great beating that game, even though I liked OOT better. I think I just really liked the ending...
When I flew with Mario in Super mario 3, that felt awesome
That is a good one.

An even cooler moment (for me) was the first time I flew in Mario 64. Damn that was cool. To this day not many 3D action/adventure games let you just fly around everywhere like Mario64 did. I think it's because it greatly complicates the level design.

For me its everything in RE4, especially the boss fights. I have not even gotten to the second disk yet and it is now my favorite game.
A specific moment not in RE4 would be beating DMC with all the secret missions and stuff and getting the King of Hell picture.

The first (and only) time I beat a hard Ninja Gaiden (XBOX) boss while only getting hit once.
When I got the complete time in Super Smash Brothers for the target tests under 10 mins. That was hard.
And not totally a game moment but based on a game was RE1 was first out '96 or something, me, my uncle, and my brother would stay up until the late hours of the night. One night, at like 2 AM, I had to go to the bathroom and the bathroom was at the end of a hallway. I turned on the lights of the hallway and went to the bathroom. When I came out the lights were turned off. Being six and all, I was pretty damn scared. Then my uncle turns the corner and starts rushing at me, grunting, like the hunters. I screamed the highest pitch scream I think I will ever hear. He said that my scream was so loud and high pitched it scared him. I woke up the entire house.

in phantasy star online, paying a certain little foneweral 1000 meseta to pleasure my hucast, and then in the middle of it finding out she was really a he. I wouldnt have gone through with it if i hadent already paid.....really
