New fighting thread since we'z over the limit.

Current fighting game of interest: Melty Blood Ver. B. Well... actually, I suppose it doesn't matter to anyone other than like... me and maybe two other people.

Sigh...

Uhm.

so here's the question: Will you play a shitty fighting game because you like the characters or something other than the actual gameplay?

To answer your question, no. I'm that picky about my fighting games. If a fighting games mechanics are shit, it's hard for me to go back and actually enjoy it a second time. Then again I sound like a total hypocrite because I actually think CFJ isn't THAT bad of a game.

Also (OT), this is a good place to mention that tomorrow (the 25th) is my birthday. Yes, I will be spending the weekend celebrating with my friends, booze, and lots of MVC2, 3S and CVS2 at Milpitas Golfland.

I love arcades that close at midnight.

I have no excuses for some of the fighting games I have played. But typically, if I don't like the mechanics, I won't be back.

I also don't think that CFJ was that bad. It got a particularly bad rap because of the anticipation for it, but it seriously wasn't that bad.

It was a mediocre game that came out at a bad time.

edit: I just saw a commercial while watching Family Guy for King of Fighters 96 (via Gametap). Pretty cool but pretty strange.

I'll try it if the characters look cool. But yeah, if the mechanics suck, then repeat play goes out the window.

And sorry, but here's a really stupid question: will you be able to import T5DR Online from PS3 to PSP and play it on PSP?

The game seems to play like HnK with samurais and also each character has an assistant that can come out kinda like KoF's striker system.

Nope, unfortunately.

Power Instinct Matrimelee. I played that horrid game just because Jimmy from Rage of Dragons was a Secret Character. Groove on Fight is much better than that game, but thats not saying much either.

DEVIL KINGS LIVES!!!!!!

In truth it looks hella slow HnK is much faster and man do the characters in the videos walk funny. Of course that might be because of the screen filling weapons.

Yes, one game clearly comes to mind: the Battle Arena Toshinden series. I love the characters (Kayin, Vermillion, Gaia, Sho, Rungo, etc...) and the story isn't half bad either. I never tought the gameplay was awful but it's definatly not top notch. Plus the anime was directed by Masami Obari.

I give you Eiji Shinjo, the Ryu of BAT:

And Kayin Amoh, the Ken of BAT:

And finally Sho, the Akuma of BAT:

Blood can melt if you freeze it in an ice cube tray, then put it in a microwave.

Shitty fighters I have been into:
--Toshinden
--Heavy Nova (Genesis)
--Slaughter Sport (Genesis)
--FX Fighter (PC)
--Pray for Death (PC)

i can't think of any others right this moment. there are plenty that I played a good bit though. I'm particularly ashamed of FX Fighter-- I really played it a lot.

Everything felt off when I was playing KoF EX on GBA but I still played it daily for months. I also have to admit that I enjoyed Rumble Roses XX even though I didn't fully understand that game.

As far as Sengoku Basara X, it's not what I was hoping for but a lot of what I was expecting.

sheeyit I wonder if ppl will be at the cade tonite, getting last minute practice in.

mine closes at 4am btw o_O summer hours

I remember trying out the PS2 Naruto fighting game at an anime convention, and getting humiliated by somebody. That's when I decided to try and practice the game.

If it's tough to even explain the mechanics of the game to somebody else, then it seems like they have some problems. Or I suck at explaining things.

I don't like to play shitty games. I don't even like to play some good games. (guilty gear)

I do love MvC2, CvS2, and SFIII:TS though.

Man, I hope not.

I'm hoping for an MVC2/CVS2 all-nighter to celebrate my birthday. Or at least part of it.

Oh well. If I head out there Saturday with my friends and it's dead, I won't stay too long.

Are there some "homo-erotic" elements within Melty Blood? Haven't gotten to the Dirty Sanchez mini-game yet.

it's all about a guy with a harem of women. the cast is mostly women and girls.
it's all about a guy with a harem of women. the cast is mostly women and girls.
indeed!!

and in no way is Melty blood Homo Erotic. If anything its the exact opposite. I have noticed alot of people hating on the Blood though. The game is a damn solid fighter with a deep combo system which rewards creativity. Plus its pretty much crack for people who love tsukihime.

It has implied lesbian twincest. Maid lesbian twincest! Back in the original H-game, do the twins ever (potentially) get it on with knife kid?

your mixing up Tsukihime the PC Hgame with the fighting game. The Characters and origins are the same but the storylines from the H game that include all the sexuality are not within MB. Anyway I think that Hisui and kohaku werent lesbians persay, though they didnt get with shiki, Hisui has a crush on him.

All I remember from the bleach-drinkingly boring anime is Akiha drinking blood from one of the maid's tits.
All I remember from the bleach-drinkingly boring anime is Akiha drinking blood from one of the maid's tits.
That is correct. Supposedly magic blood that heals the trauma of being a halfling same thing happens in the H game I believe. But they dont les out.
Tohno Shiki rapes a bunch of people I think. I don't remember. Cause I never played it. But.. I love me some Melty Blood.
Yeah, Tohno Shiki was the best back when Melty Blood was still a doujin game because he had the best sweep in the game.

I played Melty Blood down in Tokyo for about an hour back in December. It's actually a balanced game, with great characters, awesome moves, and tight gameplay.
They have some statues for sale at my local hobby shop as well.

I'd definitely buy it if it arrived on a region 1 disc.

What I was more excited about was the Hakuto No Ken fighting game. I love Fist,... and this was everything I had always imagined a game based off of the series to feel like.
I played Fist for about 3 hours, and conquered every single Japanese contender in the arcade. I was suprised, because I figured the guys that lived at the arcade were good players.
One after one, I picked them off, and finally, when it was time to go, I gave my sticks to my last losing opponent, who was confused as to why I was giving him my continuing game.

He fired up a cigarette and kept playing as me and my friend left for lunch.

I pray that Fist comes to America,.. but I fear it won't, as it's been out for quite some time here in Japan. Keep your fingers crossed on that one.

drone: I imported Hokuto no Ken for PS2. It's worth it, IMO.

Smallwind: you're really on top of it (er, in a non-gay way?)--thanks.

Basara is looking a bit Last Blade-ish with some HnK elements. I would definitely like to import this if/when it comes to PS2 or 3...

Is it the newer fighting game, or the side scroller?
I think there were 3 different games made, and wasn't sure if the fighter was the arcade port, or an original fighting title for the console. Let me know, as I would buy a Japanese PS2 for that game,... although, I may end up buying the arcade machine if one comes up cheap enough.

:)

Chac-- what all is in the LE? Is it just the OST and game?

and whoa, I just noticed there's a tag team mode

The newest PS2 release is the arcade fighting game. I keep being tempted but the 64.90 pricetag drives me away. Plus I have no one here to play with and from what I've read, it doesn't offer a whole lot of stuff to do in single player mode.

Yeah, there's a semi-interesting mission mode that I tried a bit of... mostly played the arcade mode for single player though. It's still a lot of fun even without people because the AI is surprisingly good at the game even on the default difficulty setting. And from what I hear, it won't come out in the US. The licensing issues alone would probably make this impossible to bring over.

I haven't played enough of my Hokuto No Ken. I really have no motivation to play it. It really sucks to have no one to play with

Now some real fighting news: Sega announced the US version of Virtua Fighter 5 will be released on Xbox 360 on October 30, 2007. It' gonna be a very happy Halloween

OMG That newz is like so old wow ur n00b lol banned

Anyone wanna take bets on whether Sega will release a patch or "Evolution" version of VF5 for the PS3 that has all this stuff? Maybe they'll release an even later revision...to give us incentive to buy the game for the 3rd time.

I would rather have a PS3 version-- I like the sharp look over smoothed and muddled textures...but if they could make the models a tad smoother, that would be nice. no FSAA though...

^ Really, the release date was already confirmed? I heard sometime in October but haven't seen a confirmed realease date until now. But to answer your question, what's the point in Sega doing anything with the PS2 version if VF5? Nobody bought the game when it sold brand new for $40. BTW guys, don't be surprised when I beat the crap outta all you in VF5. You will all know fear, & it's name is Rodimus Donut

Answered already, but yes it's the Sega arcade fighter:

http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-40-49-en-70-1s1p.html

It's steep @ $65, but you could always wait for a PA 20% off sale or use strikebang or those $5 off $50 coupons to lessen the damage (to your wallet).

And shit, PA charged me shipping for KoF Reg A. Damn, it was part of a larger order which they shipped out to me...earlier in the week! Wha? I'm wondering why they didn't just save me $2.10 and just ship the whole kitandkaboodle together. #-o

For one thing, the Japanese fans who bought PS3s just for VF are going to be pissed that there's a better version on the Gaijin 360. Sure they make their money in the arcades, but their console fanbase is all on one system right now. This makes me think they have plans for more VF on the PS3, one way or another.

More importantly, it would take less time, money, and effort to build on what's already there, making the profit margin higher. Since the PS3 fanbase will only grow and people know VF, a budget (or just cheaper) version would probably do pretty well.

If we got VF5 Evo on the PS3, I guarantee that it would sell much, much, much better than the original version... I mean, it'd be the only game at that price point and much easier to swallow for people weary of spending $60 on a fighter.

What's the best against the wall combo with Armor King? I've just been doing 1,2 and then after they drop a little F+4. I figure there has gotta be something better though.
