Final Fantasy 7 Remake Second Game Gameplay/Style (Spoilers Ahead?)

CAGiversary!
Possible spoilers ahead. Writing this just in case someone hasn’t played the full game yet.

I just recently finished FF7 Remake and am wondering what they are going to do for the second game (and beyond) for gameplay.

How are they going to handle the open world aspect? They couldn’t possibly do just miles and miles of empty grass hills right?

How can they transition from a relatively linear Midgar first game to the vast freedom of the world map?

I’m scared they will make the game too “open world” a la witcher 3 and have like 20000 side quests.

I’m assuming they will keep the battle system material system the same but please for the love of god make Red XIII and the other characters playable!!

Thoughts?

PS: I recently watched some post game discussion videos on the first game and holy cow, some people definitely have their tin foil hats on.

I cannot see them going into an open world format.

I would wager the overworld is not happening. My thoughts are that, instead of going on the overworld to get from town to town, it'll be more similar to how you went from sector to sector in FF7R. I would also wager they will skip some of the less important towns/plotpoints. I don't think the town that came immediately after Midgar really played much of a role (Calm I think?) and same with a place like Fort Cordor, they could easily be glossed over.

It's also possible they could also take another major area and treat that like a hub- like Nibelheim. Set up shop there bc Cloud and Tifa's backgrounds are both there and from there, the story goes to Cosmo Canyon or Wutai because they need to do this or have to find that.

I'd wager the keep the gameplay the same, which I have no issues with.
