I thought these were going to be ports of FF 1 and FF2? I just got the game and played it for around 5 mins before i had to eat and noticed 2 big changes off the back..

1.. You now have magic points .... FF 1 never had magic points you had a certain number of times you could cast a magic spell but it never had magic points.

2. Everything is Cheaper (i was able to get 2 chain mails and 2 black magic spells and 4 white magic spells and still have money left over... I was never able to do this in the First FF GAME.. Each spell was like 200 or 300 each but now they are 50 each

Im starting to think what i heard about the game is now true that the game was made a lot eaiser and that the first FF can be beat in under 10 hours without being killed once. other then those two problems i found in 5 mins I like the game. I just hope its not Too freaking easy

LAME. Lame, lame, and more lame, if it was changed to be easier. That's sad.

I remember playing FF1 and nearly pulling my hair out at the end boss. I think he had 2000hp, but with each weapon only doing a small amount of damage, it took a ton of work to beat him. I hope they didn't b0rk this.

I don't remember this opening story scene in the first one, but then again, it's been probably.. 12 or 13 years since I've played it.. the music's changed.. blah this isn't a port at all..

By music change, I mean that it's the same song, just a different version of it. Hold up..

OMG! I can't find my NES rom disc for my Dreamcast!! :(

Hmm.
If they make no changes, it's a greedy attempt to cash in.

If they do make changes, and it differs from the nostalgic memories a couple of fanboys have, it's a travesty.

Right.

I remember having to level up in FF1 like a mofo to get to the next area. Every new area you went to, you'd have to spend a couple hours leveling up somewhere. Maybe now it's more balanced, so you don't have to spend the majority of the time walking in circles waiting for random battles. I'm looking forward to playing the game again. I haven't played it in at least 10 years.

I would never say that. WHen I'm buying Final Fantasy I, I want Final Fantasy I. If they want to make all of these changes they should just make a new game. In my opinion.

The Japanese version had an easy and a normal mode. Maybe the NA version is the "easy" one. Unless there is some sort of option missing from my copy.

They need to release a FF collection for Ps2. Just put the ones made for ps1 onto dvds and u can fit ff 1-6 on 1 dvd 7-9 on 1 or 2.

FF1-9 msrp 129.99

id buy it.

There is no difficulty option in the Japanese version, unless it's really difficult to access, or in an awkward place.

I also recall (I may be wrong) that FF1 had a level cap of ~60 (it may have been 65). My characters were all around 85 by the time I put the game down. Not a huge change, but I didn't want to overlook it.

myke.
...feverishly awaiting FFIII DS, but I have a long wait ahead of me.

Im pretty sure they made the changes for a reason, kids nowadays dont want to pick up the game and get their ass kicked right away. I think that lots of people didnt even get to play the originals, and when they see a new FF title come out, they think its going to be like final fantasy 7+, so that would be their reason to buy it. I guess they'll never know what it was really like...

i remember a rumor of this before the ps2 came out. About how FF1-9 was to come on like 2 or 3 DVDS for around 199 but it never came to be.. maybe on ps 3?

The problem is the changes they make, thats what pisses people off. If you dont improve the graphics when you could that's cheap, You can ad backgrounds where there where none or give 3 color sprites some shading and highlights and if they were all they did people would be extatic but changing gameplay that was believed to have no problems would seem as ridiculous as changing guns to walkie talkies.

The game is horrendously easy. Though IMO, the graphic update, remixed music and bonus dungeons make up for it. Want a challenge though? Try beating any of the bosses in Earthgift Shrine under level 30...

Its actually not as easy as some people say it to be.
There are secrets to both ff1&2-Which include some DAMN hard secret dungeons.

Another thing someone forgot about is 70 new monsters from later FF's inserted, secret bosses like Doom Train, new dungeons, redone sprites and bcackgrounds, remixed sound tracks, the best retranslation of the FF series.
Dont forget that its a gba game, not a DS.

So obviously they should do both - have 'classic' and 'enhanced' modes.

You may be thinking of FF IV (called FF II in North America)

Only the 16 extra bosses are from later FF's, the 'new' enemies are just palette swaps of normal enemies. Also, can't forget the Bestiary and Sound Test that were added, though the latter nees to be unlocked...

The Japanese version of Final Fantasy IV only came with one difficulty level that was harder than the North American version (or II). The North American version was also censored among other things. What i'm referring to is Final Fantasy I and II for the GBA. In Japan they had an easy mode and a normal mode (no hard mode). Now that Final Fantasy I and II came to NA (and renamed "FF:Dawn of Souls"), you no longer have that choice and i'm assuming that the difficulty level that we are playing is equivalent to "easy" in the Japanese release.

Final Fantasy Origins was the version with the difficulty selection. The JPN version of DoS doesn't have a difficulty selection, but evidentally a selection on which of the Japanese translations to use...
They probably toned it down since they expect a wider audience by putting the games on the GBA as far as the age of the player is considered.
Exactly what I was thinking. Not only that, but since it is now a portable game, it is more likely to be played in short stints, and if it takes hours upon hours just to level up a little, many people will not be able to finish it. I was sure as hell surprised at how easy it was, but I think its actually a good thing. I've always thought that RPGs should have a normal mode, and an easy mode. I want an easy mode so I can play through them again to watch the cutscenes and enjoy the story, like a movie, without needing to endlessly fight random battles. Those are fun the first time, and maybe the second, but after a while, its like, come on already, moving on.

The options screen lets you choose between kana and kanji, but I don't recall a specific translation option. Where is it in the menu?

myke.

Sorry, I meant the kana/kanji selection and AFAIK it's only selectable right after you make your party...

Coolio. It's available in the config menu during the game as well.
