Today, I traveled 45 minutes to pick up a disc only copy of Rhapsody (disc only fetching $70 plus on ebay) for $29. The EB dudes had an atitude with me because I made them hold it and look for the box (which they never found). I played the first few minutes to soon realize that this game has the best graphics that Nippon Ichi has had in their games (and this is PS1!). I am now looking for the box, manual, and soundtrack CD. If anyone knows where I can get this (already tried Atlus, they said they're out), let me know. I am willing to buy, trade, or hunt down whatever someone wants of comparable value (right now I know where I can get a PS1 Ogre Battle and a complete Tales of Destiny II).

Thats a bold statement my friend. A VERY bold statement. I agree with the Dr. You need to back this claim up.

Also, good luck on tracking the guts down. I wish you the best and Ill keep eyes peeled. :D

thanks for looking, and I amend my statement, the graphics (in the first 30 minutes) are comparable to the big three (La Pucelle, Disgaea, and Phantome Brave). I'm sure Makai Kingdom will surpass this. Nneace, if your willing to part with the soundtrack, let me know.

Sorry, but no can do. It is super hard to find, and I would kick myself if I actually let it go.

Thats more like it. I would state it more like this though.

The graphics are incredible for a Ps1 game and at times can be misaken for the current gen.

If you look at LPT, Dis, or Phantom, you can see marked but not earth shattering graphical improvements.
that sounds like it straight from an EGM review:)
I have been known to sound fairly literate at times.

I do not read EGM however so I cant say if it does/doesnt.

By the way, excellent score. Take good care of that game. Love it like a child. :)
So how rare is this game? Is it $200 rare?
No PS1 game is $200 rare used unless it's a 1 of a kind thing that I'm unaware of.

It can fetch $80-110 complete I think.

I sold my mint/complete copy on eBay a month ago and only got about $80 for it. It seems that the price has gone up a bit since then, but I doubt there's been a copy going for around $150. The highest I've seen it go was about $120 and that was a few days ago as a result of a bidding war.

Glad you like it, OP, but I think this game blows in a major way. I have no clue why people are willing to pay so much for it. Yeah, it's hard to find, but damnit, it's not any good. At anyrate, You should get tales of Destiny 2 which is a much better game from my standpoint (I will find a copy one day!).

While there's no way I'd part with anything from my mint/complete Rhapsody set ($20 off of Ebay years ago before the demand hit...bet that seller's kicking himself now ;) ), I'd be interested in that Ogre Battle if there's something else you're looking for. Assuming it's complete & in good condition, natch. PM me!

I paid $15 for it sealed last summer off a local street vendor, curiosity made me open it, that song in the forest made me turn it off...perhaps I'll go back to it one day...

i got it at launch yeaaars back..and i traded it in to funcoland..*still hitting self for that* i used 2 have a stack in my room of atlus games..persona, persona 2, thousand arms...etcbut traded them in to eb :(..i didnt kno better!...neways..umm rhapsody was too sugary for me, but it was fun to play! some of the soundtrack songs are ripped straight from a disney wet dream...but are fun to listen to..enjoy it!

The Ogre Battle is just sitting at an EB (I dont own a copy yet, and $35 for it is too much for me, though it is complete with everything but map) and the Tales of Destiny II is at the EB where I bought Rhapsody. I already own a copy (bought it complete a few months back for $5). I will probably pick it up if its still there when I get back from vacation. I will be making a trade list soon (which will also include a sealed Mega Man Legends 2 if anyone is interested).

Ahh, hindsight is always 20/20

I have to thank the OP, because of this thread I wandered into Gamestop.com around 3 am this morning and saw that the Gamestop in San Marcos, 30 minutes away had a copy, and I know they didnt have one last week. So I show up at 10 am and its complete and in fabulous condition, just traded in yesterday. Poor kid musta got...almost nothing for it.

With the music cd?

Rhapsody seems to show at Gamestop VERY frequently, which is weird for such an in demand game. I got my copy awhile ago at Gamestop as well, complete with even the music cd.

Greed is always in fashion, hence the demand for Rhapsody. Atlus games equal dollar signs to several unscrupulous collectors out there.
I absolutely hated this game, but I advised my friend to keep her copy, since she can stand to play it. She also lacks high-speed internet and I doubt she'd want to give me 20%.

If you like it, hey, whatever floats your boat. I was turned off to Rhapsody due to the god-awful voices in the game and the fact that it was a bit too easy.

I may check for a copy at the Paducah Gamestop next time I'm in the area, and I would love to trade for a complete Lunar 2 should I snag one.

It's just too bad the game being published by Atlus has nothing to do with why it fetches so much.

It's the fact that it's the first Nippon Ichi game to be released in the US (and I think the first one, period) and games like La Pucelle (and I think Disgaea? Never got that far in Disgaea so I forget) have characters from it. It had low production numbers, being a little known SRPG at the time, but gamers want it for the Nippon Ichi brand, not because of Atlus.

I bought Rhapsody because I enjoy Nippon Ichi's games greatly, as do MANY others... it has nothing to do with greed. I wanted to see what the game was all about. This quote up above is pretty funny coming from the person who got a great deal on Valkyrie Profile and wanted to hawk it on Ebay.

Ah to hell w/ ya Doc!!! That was to be my only stop on this weekend's road trip! In any case, that shop in San Marcos does tend to get some good games everynow and then. Last road trip I took I picked up Castlevania Chronicles there. Great job on that Rhapsody.
