Finding an Unglitched Copy of SNK vs Capcom Card Fighters?

I just picked up a DS, so I'm going around and grabbing games that I had previous interest in. I've heard about the horrible glitch in SNK vs Capcom Card Fighters that doesn't allow you to progress past a certain point.

How would I go about getting an unglitched copy now?

The label of the cart has a color logo and a colorless background on the fixed version. If you see a used copy of it on eBay like that it's probably your best bet. I'm not aware of the fixed versions ever making it to retail, or any change in packaging if they did. They also stopped the replacement program quite some time ago.

Thanks for the info. I didn't know if retail copies would be bug free now or not, and now that the replacement program is over I'd be stuck with a bum copy.

I believe the copy I bought new at TRU is glitch free. Accordint to wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Card_Fighters_Clash#Game-Breaking_Bug_.28NDS_Version.29, the fixed cart has a gray/non-colored background, while the glitched copy has a colored background.

The referenced kotaku article has a grainy picture of the fixed cart, along with the SNK letter they sent out with the replacements. I opened my new, retail copy after I bought it in late 2007 and found it matches that picture, so I believe some can be found, but unless you can check the cart some (GS gutted copy), I wouldn't chance buying it sealed, as I'm not aware of any tell-tale signs on the game case between glitched and fixed copies.

I hope that helps.

TRU is one of the few retailers (maybe the only?) that carried the fixed copy. I got my fixed copy from them.

One possible way to tell if your sealed game has the fixed or glitched cart is the type of shrinkwrap. My fixed copy from TRU came in the cheap cellophane type seal (looked like a reseal which makes sense since they probably removed the glitched cart and resealed with the fixed one). Any copies of the game with the Y-fold seal are probably glitched copies.

Isn't the Y-fold cellophane and the plastic wrap the cheapo stuff? My concern now is that I believe most stores clearanced this title out, including Toys R Us and K-Mart. I'm guessing that Gamestop didn't get any of the fixed carts because they tend to not re-order less successful games after an initial batch. I'll look around and see what I can find.

Thanks for the info, guys!

Yeah, this has been long clearanced out at many stores including TRU, KMart, and Sears. Your best bet now would be a used copy at Gamestop where you can actually view the cart to see if it's the fixed one.

the glitch was not that bad... you could go up the tower once and beat the game.. the glitch was you could not go up the tower a 2nd time to try to get all of the cards... How boring it was i dont know why you wold want to go up the tower a 2nd time LOL

it was a good game for its time but i find it just boring as hell now.. I think i got 1 or 2 fixxed one and 1 or 2 glitched ones : )

(some place had them on sale for like 2.95 each)

I think Sears had them for $2.97. Well, except for one Sears near me, where it's still $23.97.

correct you are. cellophane is the y-fold seal. plastic shrinkwrap is that cheap, easy to tear crap that looks like it's been shrunk, hence the name shrinkwrap.
