Firmware 3.50 up
Didn't see this posted, but firmware 3.50 is up via network update.
And the wait begins for Dark_Alex's magic.
Should be able to access ps3's wirelessly with this one.
Yup, Im setting it up right now.

:Edit: Works great. I can access media on my psp from my computer via the ps3.
do you have to leave your ps3 on or can you "wake it up" when you go to see your media via the psp?
I had to leave it on in remote play.

Damn, DLNA streaming works on the PSP!

So you're streaming from your PC, to the PS3, to the PSP!

Screens and quotes of someone using it.

And an episode of Seinfeld streaming from my PC to my PS3 over the internet and to my PSP:

You can see the Nero MediaHome watermark in the upper-left corner.

PC -> PS3 -> Internet -> PSP, so awesome
Portable media center!!!!
Damn, anywhere I have internet, I'll have access to my movies, music, and pictures. This is incredible.

that's awesome...but I don't think I'll ever use it.

how would you access it if you aren't near your PS3.

That's what this update does.
Allow you to access it over the internet.
So ANYWHERE.

It's even confirmed that at least one PS3 game will be playable OVER the PSP.
Imagine that!

What game is that?

Aside from latency issues, the main problem with remote play (which is otherwise an AMAZING feature) is that you not only have to leave your PS3 on when you leave the house, you specifically have to leave it in remote play mode. The ideal solution would be to have the PS3 wake up or turn on via a remote signal, but at the very least I'd like to be able to leave Folding@home running, but still be able to quit it and view my own stuff when I wanted to. I would think that would be possible.

Apparently, rumor has it that 2.0 update will change the fact that you have to leave it in remote play mode, and can be accessed at all times if you want it to.

It's a Japan only game, that one with the black and white cats in a real life world.
It's getting a patch in June to allow for PSP play with remote play on PS3.

With slight lag being an issue, I can see turnbased/rpg/ and other slower PS3 games being played on your PSP while your away from home.

Here's a video of the FW in action.
First part is just the RSS stuff, 2:30secs on he logs onto his PS3.

I can't imagine Ill be playing Ninja Gaiden Sigma on my PSP any time soon :)

so the PS3 runs the game while the video is just streamed to the PSP?

Yep, that is basically what happens. PS3 does all the work.

That's.....freaking amazing. I don't think it gets much better than that for portable/console interconnection. the ps3 just needs to get more popular so people can see this. :)

Games will need to be specially crafted to use one analog stick and only two shoulder buttons on the PS3. Not impossible by any means, but it would take some extra thought.

of course. they'll probably just craft games from the bottom up for this.

Given the fact that so far I've had trouble even playing video smoothly, and the fact that there are some very serious latency issues (press a button and then the menu takes a second to respond, maybe more) I seriously doubt that playing PS3 games over wi-fi is going to be a popular option. Yeah, it's got a cool factor to it, but I'm not sure that it's something very many people would actually want to do. As has already been mentioned, the controls on the PSP aren't suited to most PS3 games and the graphics would suffer terribly, even if they got the controls to work reliably.

Works pretty smooth for everyone else I've seen using it and reporting.
There's also settings you can tweak or something from the looks of that youtube clip when he's about to play the video.

I tried using Remote Play over an Internet (as opposed to a local network) connection, but no matter what I did, I couldn't get it to recognize my Playstation Network email address & password. If I type them in on the PSN web site, it works fine. Anyone else have this problem? It's especially annoying because it takes more than a minute to type in the email address and password using the onscreen keypad and every time it fails, it erases them both and I have to type them in again. :bomb:
