First Console release in a long time I'm NOT getting it release day...

For quite a few systems (the ones I wanted at release), I bought them all release day, starting with the Sega Saturn.

But I won't be doing it this year.

Because last time I bought a console on release day, it was an Xbox, and they made me buy a BUNDLE.

Now, the 360 is something I'd love to have, and setting aside $400 would have been possible if I started saving spare cash a year or so ago. I wasn't interested in it then.

But I also knew that even if I saved up, I'd be forced to buy two games I don't want, along with strategy guides and such turing a $450 day (ouch) to a $550-$600 day (no!).

I'm going to wait untill the demand settles down, till after the holidays, and see what's what and perhaps they will offer a free game with it by then (they did that with the DS pretty quick...well..one could hope anyway).

Is there anyone else here who would normaly buy a 360 (or any of the upcoming consoles) on release day but won't because they don't want to have to buy things they don't want?

I always wait for software I must have before buying a console.

The DS marks the first time I refrained from purchasing the console even after a game I must have has been released.

I will be waiting until next year to get a 360. I refuse to pay $60 per game. I'll get one when the launch games drop to $20. The last console I didn't get at launch was the 3DO ($700!).

You bought a Saturn on release day?

Impressive, considering the surprise launch.

Here's how that went:
Kalinske: "And you can buy it right now!"
E3 and gaming populous in general: "Huh?"

And, while I love my Saturn, you payed FAR too much.

Yeah, it was a very cool day! I happend to be at a Toys R Us early one day with my mom (I was...hmm...14 at the time), and it was out! I used to read 4 magazines a month, and I was like what the hell? This was also the first time I begged for something that cost $400! I still can't believe my mom shelled out that much money!

Good day. But, that was the day I stopped playing my 32x.

EDIT: Now, I'm like "oooh, $400 is too much for a 360" and then I actually got my mom to buy a Saturn for that much...damn. I should pay her back.

With THAT amount of guilt...I would probably just kill myself. I still feel like shit to this day for making my mom pay $60 for WWF Attitude on release day. ;)

Yeah, I've been saving my fye credit for the 360. I didn't reserve it so it'll probably be a while before I can get it too. I'm also just going to get the $399 one (one that's not a store bundle).

One a side note, thanks mostly to Room Zoom I have over $300 in credit. Thank you Fye!

lol

I'm waiting on this as well. Mymain beef is the wonky backwards compatiblity and the fact that the games just don't scream next generation to me. I'm kind of thinking of just waiting on the PS3 to release so i can compare the two and figure out which to buy. $60 games also piss me off

with 400 bucks for the console and 60 for the game i rather buy some jordans with that money haha...tho i have never brought any console during launch

The last system I bought on launch was the xbox and the next one will be the 360 and the next system ill buy on launch is xbox 720 (or whatever it will be called).

Same here, except I didn't get a Micro or PSP at launch. This will be the first console launch in a very long time that I haven't gotten it at launch.

And just think, the SNES games that we buy on EBGames for free SAVER shipping used to routinely have their initial price point being $60-$75. I remember back when the price of the SNES console dropped to $100 and I realized I could buy the thing for a little more than what brand new games were going for.
