::flame suit on:: Anyone NOT impressed with Halo 2?

Fatesealer

CAGiversary!
I already know there's going to be hell to pay for this thread... but... I'm actually regretting purchasing this... in terms of collector's value, sure, the case and all warrant it... but... the game itself: meh... I could have waited... thank god the guide is still sealed, so I can get the refund in full for it...

I don't know, I'm wating for it to hit $19.99 or so. From what I've heard it's kinda 'meh'.

A. Expect to wait till atleast christmas 2006, atleast.

B. From whom? All reviews have been nothing but spectacular (of course I take them with a grain of salt given the hype the game has received)

A couple of my friends were talking to me about it online today, and their overall impression was that it was just "Same ol' same ol'". Which doesn't surprise me in the least considering its insane hype. And as for waiting that long to get it, I can stick it out. I don't even have the first one, only rented it.

is anyone else getting an error message that says there is something wrong with your disk it might be dirty or defective. Its happened 3 times so far during the first big cut scene and i had to restart. But the first mission hasnt had a glitch or skipped yet. I have so much motion sickness now from killin and killin and killin and running and peeking that im gonna go throw up now

Waiting for it to hit 19.99 will be a while. However I have to say I rented this and I'm not impressed. However if you're a big FPS fan this game is about as good as that genre has at least until HalfLife 2

Yeah, I knew that all of the reviews were overly glowing so I took them with a grain of salt. I love how they would rave and drool on and on about how great the graphics are, etc. yet completely omit the fact that there is tons of low-res/high-res texture swapping going on in the foreground that is really really distracting. I think the reviewers feared the retarded Halo fanboys and simply let tons of shit slide so that they'd STFU.

But again, what really is a review these days? Reviews only mean something to me when it's not a hype machine type of game... I would have NEVER bought Katamari Damacy ever, but positive reviews PLUS word of mouth changed my opinion of it. And thus I bought it. GTA: SA, a recent example, I atfirst didn't want it. But then I got all 'oh gee, the reviews aregiving it like 9's and 10's, so it's gotta be good, right?' Well... let me put it this way: I finished the story missions, am at around 65% complete and haven't so much as put together a fullfledged session with it since.

I didnt get that but mine seemed a little glitchy during cutscenes, background images flicker, like they disappear for a second and come back. Is this normal or should I exchange it?

Did someone say Flame suit?

like the sound will cut out
or jump a bit
i couldnt get the dam game to start the first mission for 3 loads
im still close to taking it back if it happens one more time
and plus my cat stepped on my plastic outside packaging for the CE version and crushed it

That's called DDEs, it means your Xbox is on its way out. Try cleaning the disc, try cleaning the drive.. but you're pretty much quickly on your way to being f'd in the a.

i dunno I have not touched the story mode yet so I can't comment there.
But multiplayer is great and you can tell a lot of thought was put into it. This is the most fun I have had with a FPS since Goldeneye. Every other FPS I have played since 1996 seemed to be lacking in comparison to Golden eye but this one seems to be worthy.

Anything less than a 9 and it's a conspiracy... but then again, we live in an age where even a perfect 10 still isn't enough... any reviews mention how cumbersome dual wielding is? Sure you can power wield two SMG's but when you're fumbing to get the Plasma Rifle off the ground, but drop your SMG, and you pick up the Plasma Pistol, when you wanted the Rifle, so you dual wield to get them both, and still don't have the combo you want, it's borderline 'fuck THIS!!!'

Ha ha ha! Felt the exact same way with that so far.
For a really good flame suit you need the asbestos armor from "Rise of the Triad." Oh so itchy.
:) I loved RotT. Time for me to go whip out an Excalibat on some kid.

Have they altered the controls somehow? I never recall having THAT much trouble aiming and shooting anything that moves, and I played the first Halo. Halo 1, I could mow down Covenant like nobody's business, but now, get a damn thing in my face and I'm missing all over the place...

I felt that way until I got about halfway through the first mission. The intensity picked up and finished the mission well. I'm about half way through the 2nd mission now. I stopped there to go play some online and have had nothing but flawless playing experiences on there. Good stuff so far.

If you were expecting something completely new, then I don't think Halo 2 is indeed for you. It's a sequal to a very popular game. They aren't going to stray too far from the forumla that made them successful in the first place. Most people are hyped for it just because of Live play alone. Not everyone can get 16 people together for some local LAN play so this is a quick, easy alternative, and a damn good one at that.

They altered the AI so creatures duck and dodge for cover more. Plus a constant stream of fire from a gun like the SMG will cause you aim to move up some automatically, similar to real life, which if you're trying to mow everybody down could be a problem for you.

To be honest I've been playing through Heroic and it seems like you need to be more tactical in this one than the original.

I love it. I wasn't hyped for it much. My cousin is, though. It's exactly like Halo.. of course it's not going to change much, I expected pretty much Halo with new levels, and that's what it is. It's fun, except for level three.. but it's more of the same, and I love it.

8 vs 8 runs pretty smoothly. Its quite a sight when people start collecting in the middle of the map with two or three vehicles flying around at the same time.

it's not a new game, from what I've played it's more halo. You can take that as good or bad. I never used xboxconnect so online halo for me is really cool.

No way it will be discounted by mid 2005 I bet. Once sales drop off and they will drop off significantly after Christmas. Besides isn't the new MS or Nintendo system coming out in the fall / winter of next year? That will drive prices down on 1 year old games for certain.

It sounds like I will be getting this game used from Gamerush for $10 after I trade in 3 games. :)

i thought that game was complete garbage. i have it and wish i hadnt gotten it. technically its just showing alot of age

they have sold 5 million copies of halo 1 and it still isn't a PH. Just wait for them to sell 4 more million or so of halo 2 and then you may be able to find a used copy for 20 bucks. Your going to be waiting for more then a year for a price dorp. That's why I got mine and I never buy at release.

and incase some lame Gamefaqs type comes in demanding a link to the 5 mill mark for halo 1.

I wasn't that big of a Halo 1 fan. It was pure hype. Sadly, I bought this one last night, and I am regretting it already. Played about halfway through the campaign, and all I can say is: "Meh." A good game? Perhaps. Should I have spent $50? fuck no! Actually, I haven't opened mine yet. Will EB let me return it and get a different game? We played my friends version all last night, and I just kept mine sealed up.

I agree the first Halo did not drop in price because the Xbox was only a year or two old. More people were still buying the system because it had dropped in price to $249 or $199.

Now at $149 most everyone that wants an Xbox has one. And anyone that buys an Xbox at $99 isn't going to run out and pay $50 for Halo2. Maybe $29 for Halo... just maybe.

That's kind of why I rely on word of mouth for reviews. That and Penny Arcade...

They will not sell 10 million of Halo 2... the resale trade of gaming has grown a lot in the last 2 years... Copies of Halo 2 will be traded in... and the new sales will be closer to 4 million... 5 million if they are lucky.

I think they have gauged the market wrong.

the only problems i've had so far is that the covenant guys (don't know their name) have been stuck to the walls twice already! that's kind of annoying since they had the game developed for awhile and they could've spent a little more time fixing the little bugs here and there. ah well, at least it makes them easier to shoot! :p

EDIT: i figure nobody has been flamed yet by fanboys b/c they're all playing halo 2 for the next few months! after that, IT'S ON! :p :D

^.^

Whee.

The strength of this game lies in the multiplayer. I don't think any of us really expected the game to be something it is not. I am really looking forward to Metroid Prime 2, but it will be more of the same. This is the way the industry works.

What if this game wasn't Halo 2 or developed by Bungie? Would your opinion change if there wasn't a hype machine going around? Probably.

I don't get people...it is just a video game, it isn't going to change your life, or the way you play video games...I have been gaming for over 20 years, and nothing has really moved me yet...I waited in line last night..I spent my money...and I am happy with it...it isn't god's gift to video games, but it doesn't suck...and if someone fell into the hype, and doesn't have the money to be spending on a full price game, who's fault is that...if you don't like it, trade it in, or sell it on ebay
That's kind of why I rely on word of mouth for reviews. That and Penny Arcade...
I've been a PA fan for years... that has been a perennial IE favorite no matter the browser.

the dual wielding guns takes a little time to get used to, but other than that, it's still a fun add-on. the graphics are improved from before, there are more weapons, and the halo 2 game world seems much larger than it was in the original halo. i like it so far. i wouldn't have given it a 10, but i think a 9.0 is justified :)

You know a game is way over hyped when your local 6 o’clock news channel does a cover on the game (and they never have before). Halo 2 is like an expansion pack then a whole new game, everything that was great about Halo 1 is kept and tweaked with a new single player campaign and added online play. Which isn't a bad thing at all, but damn all the hype made halo like the 2nd coming of Jesus. Great game though, much better than the original.
the 2nd coming of Jesus
Jesus favors more plainer options like good ol Tetris...

Here's an idea, how about you guys play it for more than ONE DAY before you start saying how let down you are by the game?

My local station had a news story on Halo 2 also - very weird. I guess it is projected to be the biggest seller this season. I'm not sure about that - might be something Microsoft is feeding to the press to make it sound like its the 'must have' game this Xmas.

I played it for about an hour and a half already and must say I am very impressed. Haven't played MP yet (no XBL) but should get to try it out this weekend with friends. Defintitely my favorite game so far this year.
