I wanted to take this out of the Tomb Raider thread since it may be a non-demo problem, as someone else claimed they didn't have it.

So, anyone else get this?

Video (less than 1 MB)

I searched a few places and didn't see anything on it. I also get it in CoD2 once in a while, I've seen them on the walls in the Tunisia level on multiplayer. Also saw it on Halo while playing BC games. I figured it was something everyone saw but now I'm not so sure. This flickering is really annoying and I want to send the system back and get this damn thing fixed if it needs to be.

Saw another person now say they saw no flickering.

fucking fuck. Guess I should have known this would happen. On a PC I'd know there's a graphics card problem, I don't know why I entertained the idea that it might be software side in the first place.

Kane, what do you have your 360 hooked up to? I reported no flickering in the other thread, but I have my 360 hooked up to a projector via a VGA cable.

Ok. I did try it at every resolution before posting, by the way.

Sony HDTV (CRT style), system is hooked up via the MS-branded component cables. System is in well-ventilated area. No major problems prior to this other than one incident where artifacting began to show up on the screen during a Hexic game (which should have prompted me to send it in back then), but after rebooting the system it seemed to be fine.

Problem is not exclusive to the Tomb Raider (or hard drive-stored) games, but this IS the worst case I've seen of it. I'll occasionally get it in CoD2 along wall textures, and the one time I ran Halo on it I got it as well.

I guess when I get home from work today I'll try to hook it up with the regular cables (I do have a core system so they're still in the box) to see if it still happens.

I get flickering like mad on Perfect Dark Zero.

The screen looks like a flashing Vegas neon light on some levels and is so distracting as to be unplayable. They aren't like on/off or wireframe flickers. They are brightly glowing yellow/red/white texture flickers that in many cases flash so fast I thought there was something wrong with my 360.

This has happened on SD and HDTV's. Running 480i and on 1080i settings.

I never had the PDZ problems...I was reading that Tomb Raider may have some framerate issues at 1080i, so who knows....maybe some games do not perform as well for us with 1080i only.

Just tried it with the standard RCA cables on a different input on my TV - same problem. If it turns out that the vast minority do NOT have this flickering problem - and it seems that is the case - then I'll probably send this thing back next week.
You have a defective graphic board. My 1st 360 did the same thing. Its really bad in PGR3. Take it back or replace it.
Thanks, will call them tomorrow.

I've noticed while playing PDZ and my BC games on my TV in 1080i, there's some flickering going on. But, what's wierd is that I've taken my 360 to my brother in law's and played PDZ over a projector, same parts of the game and no flickering. I figured I'm a dumb a$$ and didn't have something hooked up right @ home.

I'm definitely going to get to the bottom of this when I get home. Y'all got me worried.

Thanks for posting this OP. I'd hate to think I paid this much cash for something I have to take back already. But, that's life.

Just to reaffirm, its the 360. A TV issue would affect the whole screen or a certain area. A flickering texture would have nothing to do with the TV. The TV renders the screen as a whole image. It doesn't know the difference between the flickering arm or the back next to it. When this happens on PCs its generally either caused by excessive over clocking or insuficient video ram. Neither of those are really plausible on a 360, so its most likely damage.

Called and am waiting for coffin. To those with the same problem (even if it's not as bad) - if it's still under warranty, I'd recommend you get it sent in ASAP. Can't say for sure but it seemed to get slightly worse over time, which didn't bode well if I decided to ignore it.

Strangely the CS rep claimed to have not heard of this problem before...although she knew pretty much nothing about anything. When I mentioned "flickering textures" and "graphics board" she was clueless. That's fine though, I just want a coffin. As long as she writes down what I told her I don't care.

Praying that some DHL jackass doesn't steal my console while in transit.

I was getting some crazy screen tearing/texture flickering with the full version of Tomb Raider last night. I'll have to watch your video to see if it's the same thing I'm getting when I get home.

It's only happened in one section of the game so far. Right after the first time you use the grappling hook to swing across a gap. When I was looking up at the bronze statue immediately after that, the area back towards the shiny thing I swung on started tearing into a white and black mess.

Edit: Just watched your video, and I'm not seeing stuff exactly like that. Mine is tearing the screen into larger triangular sections. I've not seen anything even remotely like it in all the other 360 games I've played.

Im having a problem with mine that reminds me of an interlaced computer monitor. I have slightly lighter bands that scroll up the screen every few seconds, but it doesnt do it with my ps2, xbox or dvd player, so I'm assuming its the 360. Its not bad, but its noticeable, so it annoys me.

That doesn't sound like a 360 problem, although I may be misunderstanding what you're saying. I'd check another connector cable if you can, and also try another device on the same input you're using and see if it still happens.

I had it happen today on Far Cry. I am already sending it back in, and I am going to call to have them check this out. I have the same problems on COD2 and DOA4, both in SD and HD. I am glad it's the box and not the game.

Artifacting like that is due to unstable or damaged graphics hardware. When you overclock your PC's video card, the heat rises and the hardware becomes unstable. The way of testing out what your hardware's limit is, is to clock up 5MHz increments until you start seeing artifacts such as those or the system locks up. At that point, you reduce the speed until it becomes stable, then reduce THAT speed by a good 10MHz to be safe.

What it all (usually) comes down to is heat. Your 360 is on it's last leg, good to see you ordered a coffin. I guess we'll be sending in our systems at the same time. I am hoping UPS gets it there and back without any damage. I'll be pissed if it's all messed up when I get it back.

Same thing is happening on TR with me as well. Huge Black/white 'scratches' across the screen.

I'm really surprised to see that a lot of us regulars here at CAG did in fact get defective boxes. I went out and bought another 360 premium just for the hell of it and to play while I wait for the return of my other Xbox 360 from MS. My new one seems to have smoother Xbox emulation unless it's in my head.

Had this happen and was all up in arms till I found that it was my CELL PHONE doing it. Dam thing was setting right next to my system and did it. I also noticed it when my wifes cell was in the same room not even that close.

Yeah,
my "flickering" problem turned out to be intererence from my cable line to the TV. Nothing like what OP has going on.

Interesting. Don't rule out a bad graphics board though.

Man, I am getting the same thing. It happens on the first level towards then end when she is shooting all of the mercs up on the stonehenge thing. I haven't had any other issues with GRAW or Fight Night Round 3 nor with Kameo.

Just for the record, here are the games I own and which of them had the problem. This was NOT meticulously researched so it may very well be that all of them have it and some are worse than others. Regardless:

CoD2 (yes - badly)
Tomb Raider demo (yes - worst case I found)
Fight Night 3 (none)
Burnout Revenge (none)
NBA 2k6 (yes - not bad but noticeable at times)
GRAW (yes - not bad but noticeable at times)
Tiger Woods demo (none)

Possibly related (in the sense that my box is dying) note: This past weekend it froze up on me three times, twice during Burnout Revenge online and once during the Tiger Woods demo. Prior to this I don't believe it had frozen up at all.

This doesn't fill me with a lot of confidence for the longevity of people's systems.

Well, I played all the way through Tomb Raider and only noticed what I described in that one area. I'm assuming my issue is with the game as I've played all the following (and probably a few more) without any issues:

Amped 3
Battlefield 2 Demo
Blazing Angels Demo
Burnout Revenge
Call Of Duty 2 Demo
Dead Or Alive 4
Far Cry Instincts: Predator
Fight Night Round 3 Demo
Final Fantasy XI Beta
Full Auto
Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter
Gun
Kameo
King Kong Demo
Madden 06
Need For Speed Most Wanted
Oblivion
Outfit Demo
Perfect Dark Zero
Ridge Racer
Tiger Woods
TimeShift Demo
Tony Hawk American Wasteland

Again same problem as Shipwreck's Tomb Raider Legends.

I have not had any problems with my games:

Kameo
Fight Night Round 3
Call of Duty 2
Dead or Alive 4
Full Auto Demo
Quake 4 Demo
Blazing Angels Demo
Ghost Recon Advanced Warrior
Happened to me along time ago when GRAW came out, never happened again and then yesterday my 360 died.
lol if only you sold it to me with that pc and than you wouldnt have a broken 360

Wait, so is this hardware or software related? It seems as if some of you are having problems yet others aren't.:whistle2:k

I've never noticed this on any non-HDTV... I've seen tons of 360 games on 480p TVs and never saw anything like that. I've heard about it though but thought it was due to defective systems.
