So Best Buy has a coupon for $20 off a selection of titles. I just picked up Dark Athena today for $10 with it to actually play, but it got me thinking.

Would it be feasible to pick up 3 copies of Dark Athena for $30, get gift receipts for them, and then turn around and trade them back in for list price ($30), effectively making $60 worth of credit off the deal - that's a free game right there.

Thoughts? The coupon expires soon, so I'd need to do this quickly if I wanted to take advantage of it. I've never tried anything like this, so I'm not entirely sure how gift receipts work, nor how it would work to return something on them bought with such a giant coupon.

That seems wrong. And I would think the gift receipt would state final cost paid, which is $10 each. Flip them on ebay or half.com. I did that with Metroid Prime Trilogy (3 copies @ $20 each, and Buzz Quiz TV with controllers $20 each at Best Buy, buy 2 get one free deal). Made $20 + a copy of the game on each deal.

Ah hah. Didn't realize that was considered return fraud. So the only difference between that and actual flipping is that you do it at another location when you flip?

And this is why we ask questions before we do things.

Guess I learned something today. *feels sufficiently ashamed*
