CAGiversary!
:( Can we have a mature and constructive discussion now that the election is over? I was so waiting for the election to be over so that people can actually discuss something meaningful rather than childish flaming… Some of the latest posts here make me feel sad for CAG which I think is a generally supportive and positive community.

For starters, would CAGs be interested in discussing about, say, possible replacement of Justice Rehnquist? Who do you think is most qualified?

How about arming Green Peace and the World Wildlife Foundation and have them fight against the environment haters in Washington, D.C.?

I wish we could have mature and constructive, but I do not think it will happen. People around here are trying to push other people's buttons and act like idiots too much lately for me.

I have to say I agree with Mr. Unoriginal in saying I wish this site could turn back the clock a good 6 months

Unfortunately thare are many individuals that won't have a constructive debate on the issues. They much prefer to argumentative for it's own sake and being completely closed minded.

Just because you disagree doesn't mean EVERY point on the other side is wholly without merit. But we see that a lot here, which is disappointing.

We can't have a serious discussion because people like quackzilla go around and post shit in every single thread. And yes most of the people posting shit are liberal.

Frankly, I don't come here for serious discussion because there has never been any on this board and unless people like Quack are banned or something there never will be.

Yeah, we need more intelligent discussion from users like PAD.

See what I mean?

I never mentioned PAD or said liberals were the only ones posting stupid stuff, yet we see the results.
The way I see it, I had to read thread after thread of Bush bashing. Im going to enjoy these next fours years.
You'll be "enjoying" the fruits of Mr. Bush's presidency well into your late life. Consider these four years to be an introduction...

It's hard to have a constructive "debate" when a thread starts with just a link to news and then has a line of trash talk. People would have to lay out their threads better and try to lead the discussion to stay on topic before a more civil tone becomes the norm. This has happened on occasion, but it's rare.

Are you serious? You never said that liberals were the only ones posting stupid stuff? IT'S RIGHT THERE!

You mentioned Quack, yet you think it's ridiculous of me to mention his right-wing equivelant PAD? Man, you're nuts...

Don't compare me to PAD, I am not partisan, I am independent and when the government is conspiring to hurt the people I will oppose it.

And I don't spread propaganda, either.

Quack, 90% of your posts are personal attacks, or immature "Bush sucks" posts. Now, don't get me wrong, occassionally you post legitimate and intelligent posts that allow a glimpse into how you think, but most of the time that isn't the case.

At least he has managed to avoid posting offering to help people commit suicide. That's put PAD in a class all his own.

More like 99.99999%

occassionally you post legitimate and intelligent posts

Only on other boards, but sure as hell not on this one.

You never said that liberals were the only ones posting stupid stuff? IT'S RIGHT THERE!

I said MOST of the crap is by liberals. Now what part of the word MOST don't you understand you moron?

This is the type of stupidity that plagues this board.

While Quack might not have recommended suicide for anyone, he did wish a painful and bloody murder on John Ashcroft.

And yes, Most != All.

A random sampling of of Quack's Bush/Republican-bashing and personal attacks:

"So your dad is an idiot?

If spending 8 years in a uniform turns you into a prick then I think I'll pass.
Seconded.

If he stays I hope someone slits his mother shaq-fuing throat.

No, he retired because he is a coward, right PAD?

There was already a crazy ass republican in that seat so there is no change.

What a dumbass. I only read a couple posts, but PDS is a total liar and a loser.

I hope Bush get's his justices so I can watch the people who voted for him suffer.

That is the most redneck thing I have seen
"

Independent, tolerant and peaceful. Only in the Orwellian dictionary.

Anyway, I too would like an actual discussion on *issues* with facts and logic. I don't know much about who's eligible for the Supreme Court position, but I would like to have Estrada and, the lady from Texas, up for an actual vote, not a filibuster. Whoever is nominated, they need to give them the respect of an actual vote instead of just jacking around.

That's because most of the stuff he responds to doesn't warrant a well thought out message.

Something is the vein of "I hope you die" or "I want to kill you" is usually sufficient.

I guess that's where we differ. Very few things I have seen posted on *any* message board warrant death threats. But then, I guess i'm just more openminded, tolerant, and less bigoted. If a post was *that* worthless, it's not even worth my time to respond to.

Way to quote me out of context, that wasn't even in this forum.

As far as the Chief Justice position to replace Justice Rehnquist, I like moderate Justice Anthony Kennedy, he's not as conservative as Clarence Thomas or Antonin Scalia as they may not pass the still divided senate.
However, Kennedy still supports Roe vs. Wade, even though he has softened his position by voting to uphold bans on "partial-birth" abortion. Another problem is that he is a champion of gay and lesbian rights, and that may kill his chances because of Bush's core supporters. Sandra Day O'Connor is another possibilty but she's only 6 years younger than Rehnquist I beleive.

I'm not sure where they want to go with the open position though, as before the election, both Bush and Kerry has some candidates for the first Hispanic Suprerme Court justice. I haven't followed it much since. Ah well, back to cheap games.
