Time Warner has been sending out a Thank You Reward redemption to everyone saying that you can select up to 6 items of up to $189 value for being a subscriber to sports illustrated.

I recently got sports illustrated for madden 10 and thought something was fishy about them rewarding me for a 6 month subscription. Well there is. Its a scam they are using on people to charge them $189 (since they already have your account information from when you first ordered your subscription, they can take it directly out of your bank account/credit card funds)

I really can't explain it that well but heres an article from some guy in 2006 who got scammed big time and apparently they are still trying to do this to customers because I received the offer in the mail this week.

You should send this as a tip to consumerist.com. This is the kind of stuff they post and they have a huge readership.

umm, this should be something you use common sense on. they give out free subscriptions for magazines everywhere these days (or try to), with best buy purchases, with ticketmaster concert tickets. my credit card bills come with "checks" to deposit but would automatically sign me up for some card protection services that cost a lot.

if a deal is too good to be true, it probably is.

What is most sad is that this is a "legitimate" company behind it and yet it is still around.
