We think it tastes just as good as any cup of freshly brewed Starbucks® coffee. And we bet you'll agree. a participating Starbucks store October 2-5 to take the Starbucks VIA™ Taste Challenge. Let us know if you can taste the difference and receive a free tall brewed coffee for your time.*
Starbucks VIA™ Ready Brew is available nationwide starting September 29.
*Good on your next visit with offer card. Only at participating U.S. locations..

Via is their new instant coffee. I don't drink coffee, but It looks like they give you an instant to taste (I'm guessing a regular cup worth) and then a coupon/voucher for a regular coffee for your next visit. Now, the site I got this from freesampleforager.com is saying this...

Starting today, Thursday, October 2, 2009 and running through Sunday, October 5, 2009, you can stop by any Starbucks location to get free samples of the new Starbucks instant coffee, Starbucks VIA, and participate in the Starbucks VIA Taste Challenge.

So maybe you get a/some of the little packets to try as well. They sent these out a while back through Walmart's Free Samples, I think. (I remember getting them and giving them to my mom).

No idea if they'll want you to get the Starbucks Reward Card for the free coffee voucher, either.

So you just go into any Starbucks, and ask them for the VIA challenge, and you get tob try the VIA and as well as get a voucher for an actual coffee?

If they think people can't tell the difference between an instant mix and Starbucks coffee then it doesn't say anything good about their coffee.

went to one today at 1pm - they do not give out anything for free except for a VIA sample, but the one I was in told me that they were out (which seems impossible to me since it's started today and has to last till sunday, but w/e)

once again, starbucks sux!

It was pretty funny actually, I'm a bit of a coffee snob since I don't drink and need to be a snob about some kind of beverage, so the Starbucks kid is all excited to show off their taste test. One has their new Via, the other has freshly roasted Columbian...can you tell?!?

I take a sniff and a couple of sips, and call it. He starts fumbling and yes, yah...um...you're right. But it's close right? And portable...and uh...cheaper!

Props to him for being honest when I guessed right, and in his defense, both cups of coffee were pretty darn close.

I went today... it's pretty dumb, not even worth it. They gave me two little shot cups of regular coffee and the instant, but they had to make it while I was there because they were out of it? Either way the damn thing was scorching hot and I had to drink it at the counter. I did guess it because I can't see how you couldn't tell the difference between the two... and I just got a coupon for a $1 off? Though it may be valid for a free cup, I didn't read it as I thought they were supposed to give you one when you try it.

I bought a pack myself. Very good stuff. The basic difference is they figured out a way to dry the actual coffee oils, setting it apart from most instant varieties. It won't replace my usual carmel machiato, but that's also why it's only offered in two 'basic' flavors.

What happened to Wolfgang Puck? He was supposed to be making coffee that warmed itself as a chemical reaction by peeling off a foil piece on the bottom of the cup.
