Free Strategy Guides at Toys R Us B&M (YMMV)

CAGiversary!
I was at my local Toys R Us today and they had shopping carts filled with strategy guides they were giving away to make room. Free guides I picked up: Final Fantasy Tactics, Sword of Mana, Zelda Wind Waker, Mario Kart Double Dash, Soul Calibur 2, Metroid Fusion, Metroid Zero Mission, F-Zero GX, Donkey Kong Country, Metal Gear Solid Twin Snakes, a few others. It seems like most stores are trying to unload their Strategy Guides, I assume to make room for the flood of new ones soon to come for the big holiday games.

It does, These are all guides that have hit the penny mark. My friendly Toys R Us man told me that they threw them away and not even the employees were allowed to invest in the trash. Must be a really nice manager.

Toys R Us management make the Nazi's look like sunday school.
I use to work there and had to work on xmas day restocking. Didnt get paid holiday pay and the manager was pissed cause he had to come over and unlock the doors to let us out that day cuz we ruined his xmas day : ( so sad.

They ARE supposed to be thrown away... the store receives credit for unsold publications (book stores and magazine vendors have the same arrangments)
Like it or not, the manager is correctly doing his job, I imagine the penny price is a place holder to keep the sku in the computer in case of returns and whatnot. If you do find then, then kudos, you were lucky.

lol my manager knows im interested in videogames, and he lets me have all the guides that are a penny, no questions asked

i stopped in today and asked someone....he said that they're not aloud to just give them out, but when they're a penny, they'll bring them up to the counter with a sign saying they're a penny....

Yeah, Soul Calibur and Metal Gear Solid The Twin Snakes are both still $14.99. The MGS guide is Brady as Nintendo never made an official Nintendo Power guide. And the normal Soul Calibur guide is still $14.99. The hardcover one might have gone down, but I don't think so.
