Frys should be liquidating their HD DVD stock any time now.

I went in to my local Frys Electronics today to see if they had anymore $39 Xbox HD DVD Players. According to the website they are sold out but the employee told me a different story.

In addition to the 15 players they had in the Game section, he told me they had another 50 in the stock room. He also told me that they had close to 200 sealed copies of Heroes and Battlestar Galactica in stock that were not moving as well as over 1000 HD DVD's in general.

Needless to say the Xbox player and the copies of Eyes Wide Shut (Unrated) and Zodiac Director's Cut were worth the trip, but the best part was when he told me to expect a firesale coming up extremely soon.

The one in Austin does have soooo many HD DVDs. I'm all over it if/when they start to clearance stuff further.

Would be nice to have one in the St. Louis MO area but dont think we do. Hell I didnt even know we had a Costco till about 4 months ago. Anyway some of the prices online are not bad however I dont want to order till I know of a fire sale and would they even be doing that online? I was thinking about getting Forbidden Planet only they want 12 bucks for it and I'm not sure if I really want to pay that. Not when they may end up having a fire sale. Would be nice to be able to get the LE of it but people bought it when it was for 20 on amazon and now are selling it for 40-140 bucks. If some of them would just drop below 10 bucks I would buy them but more then 10 bucks for a format that is now dead I dont think so.
All the HD-DVD titles at my Fry's are plastered with French words and Canadian ratings on the back.
Canadian versions.

But HD DVD is 100% region free. They will work fine and be in english with a French option.
Never heard of this store?!?
sucks for you
think of Frys as a Sam's Club/Costco of electronics and media

I hope they drop the Hereos Season 1 to $10 soon
I really wish they would put one of thies in the St. Louis area.
Agreed. As I've been to a Fry's when I was in LA last year, it's a cool place to go. Picture a bigger-than-Costco-sized store, though just with electronics.

Heroes Season 1 and Battlestar Galactica Season 1 are $10 in this weekends ad here in SoCal through Tuesday. And they do have a good variety of and stock available of the titles... They are slowly dropping prices down, but being that they are the LAST major retailer to physically have stock at decent prices, they're milking it for its worth (which is historically Fry's way)...

And they have dropped a few titles as low as $3...

Its funny. They make money off HD DVD and have no real reason to "firesale" them out because BD discs typically just sit there (along with HD DVD). Sure, they could spread BD releases out to take over where HD DVD was, but it still won't increase sales. Very little reason for Fry's to dump their HD DVD stock now....but if they do, I'll be there!

If these 360 add-ons drop really cheap I will buy another for a backup (since I have about 20 HD DVDs). I have it hooked up to my PC right now and it works great!

What program do you use for HD DVD playback?

How'd you do that? I have Vista and would love to have that. I own more HD DvDs than Blu-Rays, and I have both.

wait wtf? I didn't know you could do that, it'll be nice to know if one day my 360 dies

Why would they firesale their HDs when they're also one of the last retailers selling DVD-Audio & SACD discs? Fry's will most likely continue to milk things until the supply runs out.
Cyberlink PowerDVD 7 plays HD DVD is vista. I think that's what I have.
Is the program free? Does it require a certain amount of RAM?
Is the program free? Does it require a certain amount of RAM?
None of the playback programs for HD-DVD/Blu-Ray (Arcsoft/WinDVD/PowerDVD) are free.

PowerDVD =
XP: 512 MB
Vista: 1 GB

Hollywood video liquidated them. They're $1.80 after employee discount. I bought 23 HD-DVDs, should be putting them on eBay soon as one big lot.

In for 10! Just kidding.

I hope they have this "firesale" soon. My Fry's in Irving, TX raised the prices on almost all HD-DVDs. I am hopeful of getting some movies for $4 or less.

Yeah this is the program I use. It works right away in Vista. I also have it running in XP but you have to install drivers for it. I've yet to try it in Linux though. Here is a link to get this to work...

Very good news, OP!

Many of us were shafted by last weeks Borders "sale".

If I can get my hands on "Royal Space Force" and "Zodiac", I will be a happy man.:whee::whee::whee:

I also ordered Royal Space Force from Borders only to have it be canceled. I've known about that movie for years but still haven't had a chance to see it.

DVD-Audio and SACD are still supported and are still in a format war. Plus their print runs are low and are for a niche market. HD DVD was a mass market failure. Frys will not allow a product that doesn't sell and that is obsolete to take up almost a full row of space.

Hence, firesale. Same thing happened with Laserdiscs in 2000 and 2001. Discs that were once $40 were given away for $5 to make room.

I have an extra sealed copy of Royal Space Force for $32 shipped...PM me if you want it as I am going to the P.O. tomorrow.

Except more HD DVDs are sold every month then SACDs or DVD-A at Fry's. How would I know? I browse both the SACD and DVDA sections ever so often and they still have the same amount of titles as before...nothing actually sells!

No thanks. I'm not going to pay more than 3x the price you paid. If you hadn't bought that extra copy at Borders my order or someone else's for that item wouldn't have been canceled.

Sucks for you then. I keep forgetting shipping for a big boxset is free through the post office.

Sorry, gonna go admire my Royal Space boxset again.

I'd just rather not have something at all than pay extra to a middleman. Are you sure you're on the right website? This isn't Slick Deals or Fat Wallet.

...Yeah, Gizmo, it does seem to be a little excessive. I can't fault Collectordragon for being resentful, nor can I fault you for trying to turn a profit.
I got in too late at Border's, so I didn't have a snowball chance in hell. Their site is a terrible tease. :bomb:

I didn't order the set to make a profit - I ordered it to go over the $25 limit to get free shipping.

but $32 is ebay price. You could sell it for a bit less ($30) and still cover most of your cost if you really want to sell it here.

Could - but do you want to go wait in the line at the post office during this time of year to make a couple of dollars? I just did - 45 minutes. No more selling until after Christmas.

Thats why you print out label on line and drop it off. I dont have to stand in line unless i am sending something oversea

WOW 45 minutes. That is a long time. I have to say I'm in and out when I go to the Post Office. Also I have to say I can't stand when people buy shit from sales like borders had just to sell it for 2 or 3 times what it was on borders. I would have liked to pick up Forbidden Planet Ultimate Collector's Edition when Amazon had it for 20 bucks however didn't want to put more on to my credit card. Even though it was only 20 bucks. Now that I'm willing to spend the money at best it is twice the price from what it was when Amazon sold it. That is due to people that bought 4 or 5 copies of it or 2 just to get the free shipping then sell the other one for 40-150 bucks. Sure if I wanted it and had the money I should have got it. However why should I or someone else have to buy something when we first see it at that price or end up having our order cancled so someone can save on shipping. The odd thing is unless the extra copy can be sold the person that buys the extras really pays more. Thats why I'm not going to even buy Forbidden Planet or even the CE. Atleast not untill it hits for atleast 20 maybe 25 at the most.

I just don't see why someone would want to buy an extra just to sell it for profit. It is somthing that I have yet to do and don't ever plan on doing. If I did end up with an extra I would end up selling it just for cost.

Its the Holidays - 45 mins for my town is not unheard of (I've been eBaying for close to ten years). Its not my problem Borders sold out and not my fault the original poster waited several hours after the deal started to place an order. I got in early and it was the luck of the draw. I got screwed over last time when Borders had the 70/80% deal and not a single person would help me get a few items they had ordered extras of. We can go back and fourth all day but the reality is with the way the P.O. lines are I'm not willing to wait in line for 45 minutes to make a couple of bucks.

I live in Austin. Fry's is 10 minutes from my house so I'd definitely hit them up if they had a firesale.

Post office lines are terrible. They're usually understaffed and many of the customers have no clue what they want to do when they get to the front of the line, so there's a back-and-forth that's like five times longer than the actual transaction.
