SEGA of Europe has announced Full Auto 2: Battlelines for PlayStation 3 - marking a shift in platform focus for the burgeoning car combat franchise, which was formerly an Xbox 360 exclusive.

According to the firm, Battlelines will build on the first game's time-rewind "Unwreck" feature, ratcheting up the levels of environmental destruction and the strategic role it plays.

"The destructible environments in Full Auto 2: Battlelines are both stunning and strategic, especially in multiplayer combat," says SEGA of America's Scott A. Steinberg. "The gameplay innovations of tactical destruction and team multiplayer vehicular mayhem combined with the tremendous power of Sony's PlayStation 3 console makes this sequel truly the next generation of combat racing."

Full Auto had been one of the Xbox 360's major early third-party exclusives, but following mixed reviews and a fairly weak chart showing SEGA's clearly reconsidered its focus and decided to try it out on Sony's next-generation format instead.

As well as an expanded, 20-level single-player game, Battlelines will feature six multiplayer modes playable online - including team-play variants - as well as more than 20 weapons and cars.

There's no word on when Full Auto 2 will launch, but it will be on display at E3 next week.

I thought the first one was great. Yes it needs some fixes but I wish the sequel shows up on X360 as well.

it is a mediocre game at best, very little hype, poor reviews....how were they expecting to have great sales.

It was one of the games I had been most looking forward to play. Loved the idea at last years E3, but in the end, it wasn't anywhere as great as they had talked about.

I'm pretty sure there were at least rumors in the latest OXM or something where they were talking about a sequel for the 360. Either way, it's not going to break my heart as the first game was fun, but nothing amazing.

I think they made it exclusive to PS3 because it will be more of an update then a true sequel. Then when they decide on a sequel it will come to both platforms.

Well that's it, its all over. PS3 wins the next gen console wars. Oh well 360 you had a good run of it and Wii, well Full Auto Wii just sounds too weird to exist so you didn't even have a shot.

Wow. *Runs out and reserves a PS3*

I played the Demo and this game was pretty bad for the 360. I would consider it for $20 or less but not for what It's current retail price is. Especially with the bugs. Bleh.

i think the main point was that sony can add 1 more title to their ps3 exclusive list. that kind of shit always makes brand loyalists cream their pants.
I thoguht the goal was to get people to buy the system, not buy the competitors
Maybe MS is paying Sega to do it for that exact reason.

But seriously, as someone that played Full Auto, I can honestly say I don't give one insignificant fuck if I never play a Full Auto game again. In fact, I think I'd prefer not to.

As awful as Joystiq is, (i think it was them) did point out that the only difference between the two games seems to be battle mode and a few extra cars.

It really sounds like a "Full Auto 1.5" rather than a completely new game.

And I'm sure if we all write petitions and cry to Sega, they'd content release the new cars for the Xbox version.

You'd have to find at least 10 people who gave a shit to get Full Auto 2 on the 360 first.

what's with all the fucking internet petitions lately???

I want Vigilante 8 360!!!
I forgot how much I loved Vigilante 8, I would love to see a sequel.

It was a joke. As evident that no one wants another Full Auto.

Another Vigilante 8 game is something I've been hoping to see at past few E3s, and I've always been disappointed.

I think this is more like "Damn it, our game sucks and no one bought it. Maybe we can slip it in on the PS3 and they won't know it sucks yet and we can sell some to them so it's not a complete loss..."

Played it today and was blown away. I was playing "Arena mode", it was freaking sweet. Spoke with one of the developers, he stated that the SUVs from the first game were meant for the Arena, but it never made it on the first game. I asked if there was a chance it will be coming to the X360, he said that for now its exclusive to PS3, but said its a possibility it might come out on X360 at a later time.

Seriously, why is everyone glossing over this game? The previews from IGN (who is hardly the first to give kind previews), 1UP, and GamePro are all glowing... the screens are gorgeous... the game will be in 1080p... it's a launch title... has KILLER multiplayer modes AND features out the wazoo? Did I sleep through something where this doesn't make people excited anymore?

And please, no "the first game sucked" responses. The first game was FAR from perfect, but it was NO where near the worst thing I've played this year, let alone on the 360. Mind numbing fun, yes. The best game ever, no.

Nevermind the fact that it really seems changes have been implemented to make sure the sequel is everything the E3 hype for the first game SHOULD have made it.

Thoughts?

Well, I think it is hard for a sequel to overcome a lukewarm original. If the game debuts to great intial reviews, then I imagine you'll see more hype for it, but people are a little cautious until they're shown this is really a jump ahead and not a retooling for the PS3 launch.

I played two cramped multiplayer games at E3 (winning a Full Auto trucker cap in the process) and thought it was very similar to Twisted Metal.

Drive cars, shoot weapons, NOTHING special about it. And I'm easily amused, and usually see the worth in very average games. I think this could be one of those launch titles that may sell simply because it is a launch title.

I really can't see the sequal being that great, and people won't give it a chance if the first one sucked.

Just look at Dark Cloud and Dark Cloud 2. DC 1 sucked balls and DC 2 was awesome, but a lot of people did not play DC2 because of DC1's shitty perfomance.

It's not even a true sequel. It's more like Full Auto: Director's Cut. They just added a bunch of stuff that they didn't have time to add to the Xbox 360 version or got complaints on.

The X360 game was fun, but it got repetitive. Making the same game longer doesn't seem that thrilling to me.

Darkness: The first game wasn't poorly made, imho. It just lacked features and a real single player mode. It was fun, but sort of ran out of tricks fast. I still pick it up and play it every now and then.

Shipwreck: All the previews so far have gone above and beyond and stressed a TRUE sequel. The changes in controls that IGN noted also seem to indicate that. I'm hoping for a true sequel, but even if we can't trust the "media" --- if it has the features mentioned, changes implemented, and online/multiplayer modes, I can't imagine it not being a fun game to get at launch.

My two cents anyway,

I didn't play much of the first beyond the demo, but it looks like racing was a big aspect of the game.

The second was much more arena-based, at least in the multiplayer demo I played. I didn't see a single-player demo at E3.

I'm going with shipwreck here, It looks alot less like a true sequel to me and more like a "Director's Cut". I don't have high hopes for it. I didn't like the orignal at all and this looks more of just the same.

The game was decent at best for what it was. Problem is that Burnout Revenge came out a mere 2-3 weeks after it showing what a real racer can do and look in HD.

I wouldn't touch the sequel with a 10 foot pole, or a $10 bill. Maybe if it was free, but that is still a big maybe.

It will probably be a game you can have fun with, but I stand by saying this is not a true sequel. Almost all of the tracks I've seen in videos have been straight out of the first game. They just added a lot more stuff including the death match mode.

If you played the first one, I really can't see why you'd want to replay a lot of what you've already done. It was decent fun, but it's just not worth playing through it again to me. And it's only been 8 or 9 months since the first game came out. You don't make a true sequel in that time frame on completely new hardware.

This is just Sega's way of making people think this is a brand new game when it's really just the "complete" version of what was rushed out on X360. Nobody would buy "Full Auto" for the PS3 because at this point it's just an old X360 game, but "Full Auto 2" makes it seem like a brand new game. This is the equivalent of calling Ninja Gaiden Black, Ninja Gaiden 2 or Fable: The Lost Chapters, Fable 2.

It will be interesting to see if they add any features when Full Auto 2 is released for the X360, or if they just try to double dip with a ported version of the PS3 game.

I got the first 1 on the 360, i had been hyped for it since I had seen the video's from e3. I enjoyed the game, but I was let down by what was promised and delivered. As shipwreck has said it isn't a true sequel, but more a full auto 1.5. If I got a ps3, I wouldn't waste my money on the same game with added benefits.

If they port it to the X360 and add new features, will it then be Full Auto 3? Will that then get a port back to PS3 with even more additions on top to become Full Auto 4?

Shipwreck: Again, from all the previews and the reviews of the game as it stands right now (again, as launch comes I'm sure there will be more) there's been a total revamp in the gameplay, controls, a brand new single player (which is good considering the first game was missing tons in this regard), and the mentioned modes for multiplayer--- it's hard to say it's similar to calling Fable or Black "2".

I think the foundation was certainly laid by the original, but if you want to call Full Auto 2 a "port" then Super Mario Brothers 2, Every EA game EVER that wasn't a first release, the Ratchet & Clank games, Jaks, Dynasty Warriors/Samurai Warriors, etc. are all not "true" sequels. They're all rehashes and the same game with new packaging--- and that's hardly the case (though I'm sure some would say otherwise about Dynasty Warriors and the EA games. ;-) )

Is EVERY stage and EVERY inch of the game that was included in the game on the 360 not seen on the PS3 sequel? Probably not. In that regard though, I can't really expect it to not include some of the layout, especially since the Full Auto game is within one city with different districts. I also have to say that the IGN features showing the districts show way more (in my opinion, at least) than the original game had to offer.

When the game comes out and people have actually played it, I hope that I'm as correct as I think I am, but time will certainly tell.

WHen the first game is not so good, you have to win people over. I know I'm waiting to get some reviews and user opinions in before I buy this game. I definitely don't need a 60 dollar stinker. But the game does look great.. I really want to get my hands on motorstorm though.. so I might just wait for that.

Couldn't agree more. Nothing sucks more than dropping $60 and then getting a game you really didn't want.

I bought the Billy & Mandy game on a lark (didn't even read reviews, just saw it was under $30, had a multiplayer and scanned the back to see pictures that looked similar to a dungeon crawler. The game back mentions a co-op), but it was a short fighter/button masher more than a co-op. It was fun, but certainly not worth $30. The story was a decent "episode" of Billy & Mandy though, so it's not all bad.

I've been doing a lot of reading on the PS3 launches though and I'm hopeful. Based on the reading and preview watching, etc. my expectations are pretty realistic though and I'm pretty confident in the game.

Hopefully others think so too because I really want peeps to play online! :whistle2:D

Hands on update since I got my copy today.

Really liking the sequel better than the original. Game play is fun. Graphics are slick and the framerate issues with the original are not here (at least that I've experienced so far).

Online is really fun. I can't wait to play more with my friends. :whistle2:D

More comments as I play!
