FutureShop's new online PM'ing policy sucks

In the past, PM'ing at FS was, place order, immediately phone them, do PM. They changed order. You were billed when item shipped.

Now, you place order, phone them. They fill out some PM sheet, and send it off to their PM department. They email you within two business days, to say whether PM has been approved. Then, it takes another 5 to 7 days for the refund to show up on your credit card. In the mean time, they ship your order. If PM does not go through, you have to return the item to the store.

I really wish they would state this somewhere on their website. I didn't know until it was too late. I feel I am about to get burned. I bought 3 copies of GRAW2 for PS3 at $69.99, PM'd them at $19.99, making them $14.99 each. So basically my total order should have been $45, but instead they billed my CC $210. My nearest FS is 2 hours away, and the only way to return an item purchased online is to your nearest store AFAIK.

That place has gone way down hill in the last few years. It used to be a great place to shop online, especially with the free shipping they used to have. Now I probably won't shop online there again. It sucks that they have so little competition, that they can can do shit like this.

Anyways, spread the word. I don't have an RFD
account, so if anyone does, feel feel to copy this info there. I don't want to see anyone else get taken by suprise.

That sucks. Sounds like it was OK before, but I never had a good experience pricematching online.

I tried to get them to PM a price on a game years ago -- they wouldn't do it, because they had some sort of bonus offer on the game. I told them I'd rather they didn't send me the dinky throw-in (an audio CD, maybe?) and match the price.... but they wouldn't have any of it.

I also liked the old free shipping version of the site... their prices aren't outrageous, but I wish they had some sort of Amazon-style system where you spend X dollars and shipping is free.

Finally got an email from FS. They said the PM is valid. And they are going to refund me the difference of $150 (3x$50). I emailed them back stating that they have to beat the price by 10% of the difference according to their policy. Meaning $165. I also shouldn't get taxed on what I did't pay. So I should get the 14% tax on $165 back too. If they don't give the tax back, then even with the 10% of the difference, it would have been cheaper to do it at best buy, as I wouldn't have had to pay the tax on the $150.

Hopefully, this was just an oversight on their part, and they refund the proper amount. Although I have already made up my mind to never buy anything online from FS again if it needs a PM. I would boycott them completely if there were any viable alternatives in Canada. It ain't easy being a cheap ass gamer :).

This is exactly how Staples does their online price matching. It is so frustrating. I think they purposely make it a hassle.

I believe this is one major reason why Future Shop & Best Buy like to have "exclusives" like the steel cases for DVDs, etc.

Matress companies do the same thing. They have hundreds of different models of the same bed, all ever so slightly different and sell different ones to different stores, making it impossible to find the exact same bed at two different stores.
Hey snowsquirrel you should post this on the futureshop forum

http://futureshopforums.com/futureshop/index_portal

I go there to complain all the time. Bought a computer and I had to return it 4 times and each time it had a different problem. A lot of Futureshop workers go on the forum daily so it's a great way to bash them.
haha I love seeing how defensive they get in the forums

They closed my thread over at FS forums, and an hour later I got email saying that they were going to honour PM. :) Still have not seen money on my CC yet, but I am confident it will show up.

The good: FS honoured their PM policy.
The bad: Takes 5~7 business days from time of approval (not time of purchase) to get reimbursed. I was told that if the amount of PM is trivial, it is instant. I had to go back and forth with them to get them to do the PM correctly. If you have to buy online, unless you are _VERY_ cheap, it is likely better to not bother.
