Fzero GX vs. Star Wars Racer Revenge - which is better?

(see subject) I'm having a hard time deciding. Both are about equal in terms of tracks & gameplay. But I think SW-RR edges out GX:

- GX's opponents are all bland. SW-RR has opponents with real personalities that affect their racing style.

- GX's head-banger music is terrible. Sounds like noise, not music. In contrast SW-RR's features John Williams' excellent score.

What's your opinion?

AX is the arcade version of GX.

My opinion is that GX blows any other racer away. The speed, tracks, and customization are just unbeatable IMO.

Fzero AX is the arcade version that moves all around and requires you to wear a seatbelt because it will toss you out if you dont. its pretty damn fun playing against a bunch of strangers.

If you want to smash your head with a hammer because of how difficult F-Zero is, by all means get it. Otherwise, if you enjoy Star Wars and liked the Pod Racer game, get Racer Revenge.

F-Zero GX was insanely difficult and I pride myself on my hover racing skills honed through F-Zeros, Wipeouts, Quantum Redshift, Star Wars pod racing etc.

The best two ever done IMHO remain Wipeout XL and the Nintendo 64 pod racer.

The PS2 Racer Revenge couldn't hold a candle to the 64 pod racing game.

F-ZERO AX yea there was an arcade version of it but I don't think those made it to US arcades? I never seen one at my local arcades!

I did a search, and couldn't find "pod racer". What was the official title? And what made an old N64 game so great?

.

Guess I'll sell the Racer Revenge & keep GX. Thanks!

You can't be serious. You think an *old* game like N64's Star Wars Racer is better than its PS2 sequel? Why?

That's roughly equivalent to saying Fzero X >>> Fzero GX. Doesn't make sense.

The N64 version holds it's own against the PS2 version. Sure the PS2 version is prettier, but the sense of speed is better in the N64 version because the tracks are better and the enemy AI actually seems better as well. Racer Revenge is way too easy and it just feels uninspired compared to the original.

For my money though, Star Wars Episode I Racer is best on the DC (you know, the console you said was not worth remembering).

Oh, and to answer your original question, F-Zero GX is worlds better than Racer Revenge.

there are machines in vegas and i think arcade infinity. your arcades probably suck.

I thought F-Zero X was better than GX, and I agree that Episode I Racer was better than Racer Revenge. Why can't originals be better than sequels? It happens all the time.

Overall: F-Zero X > Episode I Racer > F-Zero GX > Racer Revenge

I've played N64 SW Racer & Fzero X via emulation & what I saw didn't look better than their sequels. The N64 versions looked & played far worse.[quote name='PenguinMaster']I thought F-Zero X was better than GX, and I agree that Episode I Racer was better than Racer Revenge. Your statement can be true (points to FF6 >>> any of the sequels), but I don't think it applies to racing games. Fzero X and GX are virtually the same game (ditto Mario Kart 64 and Mario Kart DD), but the later version runs on a more powerful machine that provides more realism. So given two virtually-identical games, the one with better graphics/realism is going to be better overall (imho)

N64 emulation sucks for the most part. Get the real cartridges and an N64.

Yeah I have an N64, but I'm cheap. I see no reason to buy SW Racer when I can play it for free.

I'm not sure why you say it "sucks" though? Ocarina of Time looks a lot better (higher-resolution) on my PC
