Once again, GOG has neglected to give an Activision release a soundtrack bonus. Fortunately, the game's music by Kevin Mathei (Sacrifice, JA2, Wizardry 8, Champions Online) should be available in the /sounds/music subdirectory.

The great I'76 soundtrack was originally incuded on the disc in Redbook audio. We'll see how GOG handles that.

==========

The continued reluctance of GOG/Activision to include soundtrack bonuses with their releases troubles me. Here's music from KQ IV, V, and VI and some stray tracks from Gabriel Knight 2 [via QuestStudios].

[Based on the trailer on GOG's site, It is currently unknown whether KQIV also includes the AGI version; whether KGV also includes the EGA version; whether KQVI also includes the disk version.]

The temporally unorthodox 'Month of Activision' continues with a pair of Sierra sequels. The macabre Phantasmagoria sequel, 'A Puzzle of Flesh', is a stand-alone story of mental illness & the classic 'Betrayal in Krondor' receives a direct continuation in 'Return to Krondor'.

Raymond E. Feist's Return to Krondor $5.99

Mobyrank/Mobyscore:
Phantasmagoria 2: A Puzzle of Flesh (64) (3.6)

If you really need something to do, go do the same thing in every thread about a price drop, or game back in stock, pre-order, collector's edition, etc. etc. etc.

Point is this game has not been easily available for a while, has been expensive, and is now available for a great price with bonus content. It serves a purpose for those who want it and did not want to pay a certain price for it.

You're absolutely right, and you've inspired me to contribute to this incredible deal thread. I offer the following deals to my fellow CAGs:

Arcanum: of Steamworks & Magick Obscura for $5.99 on GOG
Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers for $5.99 on GOG
Riven: The Sequel to Myst for $5.99 on GOG

Please let me know if you'd like me to list some more "deals."

Something that wasn't attainable before, and now is... is a fucking deal

Those threads were already created.

Thanks for the +1 on the ignore list.

the next cag update should provide a feature that allows people to unselect deal threads from their view. So rather than people posting not a deal, they can just ignore the thread.
Would solve some of the littleness on the site.

Thanks for posting op.

im with mysterio...

anyway, the game is good, not a stinker at all. it is pretty much neverwinter nights 1 but w/ vampires.

can anyone who buys it post those avatars/artwork someplace? (i have a physical copy)

I am glad for this post!

I was just looking for this on amazon/e-bay about 2 weeks ago, and I couldn't believe the prices.

In for one!
Your link is broken, and this isn't a deal.
It might not be the greatest deal ever but I am interested and will probably purchase it based on this thread. Other people might purchase as well.

If you don't think it is a deal, keep it to yourself and move on. There is no reason to be an asshole about it.

This game plays like a point and click dungeon crawl until you get to the future part (where you have guns). I enjoyed it back a few years ago when I played it but not enough to add this to my growing backlog. I may hve to sell my boxed copy if the prices are that outrageous though.

fuck, I wish I would have read this post ^^^^^

Redemption is the one I have been looking for

I wouldn't call it a stinker, just a game that is showing age.

I would rank this in like Baldur's Gate, click adventure RPG.

One just can't compare the two.

Sweet game, I used to spend hours making super detailed and monster rich multiplayer maps. Then I'd possess the monsters and chase people around and try to make it really immersive.

Thanks for the catch. I was about to run around here raving about the great characters in this game and the amazing atmosphere particularly in the hotel level and the proceed to go off and buy a copy for myself and everyone I know....

You have saved me. Perhaps you should edit your comment to increase the font size or something like that.

I've never played Redemption. But Masquerade was great. Is it really that much worse?
I've never played Redemption. But Masquerade was great. Is it really that much worse?
It's from like 1999 or so. It's kinda like a action RPG but not with varied loot. There's specified items you find here and there or purchase.

It's a fun game to play through at least once. It has several interesting locations and great atmosphere and music. The levels are pretty empty sometimes though which I think is a limit of the engine as my custom levels could get pretty laggy with a lot of objects added in.

As long as you don't have a big problem with playing older games that don't have all the bell and whistles of modern games I think anyone who's an RPG fan or a fantasy fan could enjoy this.

Multiplayer in Redemption was really great, the only game where I actually roleplayed like in a table-top game.

Single player was meh.
Keep in mind, Bloodlines is the good one, Redemption is the stinker, from what I understand.
Blasphemy!
I've never played Redemption. But Masquerade was great. Is it really that much worse?
Its not terrible, but it pales in comparison to Masquerade. Everything about it is weaker. If you are a big fan of RPGs or Vampires you may find something to love for $6, but it really lacks the universal appeal of Masquerade.

My memory is kinda fuzzy but didn't this game had a patch that improved gameplay alot?

EDIT: That might of been Masquerade...not Bloodlines.

Grawr...kinda want to get it, but I kinda want to see it drop even lower. This site has totally made me the ultimate cheap ass. :bomb:

I think everyone is double talking and thinking backwards.

From my readings, Bloodlines had a patch afterwards that fixed a few to many problems and also added content.

I don't think Masquerade had patches besides what was out from the developer. Again, that was ages ago when compared to the newer Bloodlines.

I remember now...Masquerade had a patch that allowed you to save anywhere. That made a HUGE difference in the game.
I downloaded the patch before playing the game and I found the game to be enjoyable.

I remember one thing from the game:
Fighting the Werewolf was tough as fuck. Otherwise the game had a good difficultly.

Okay, everyone. Before we move forward, let's review the names of the two games we're talking about.

Vampire: The Masquerade - Redemption
Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines

I'm getting really confused when people say, "Masquerade is the one that's like this, while the other one is like this."

Are people going to keep posting these non-deals every week for the rest of the month?

I think it should be kept to one thread, at least.

I'm glad this thread was created since I was pretty curious about this game, and wanted to hear opinions. I'm a big fan of Bloodlines, but I remember this one coming out years before and not being super impressed by the demo. I liked the idea of being able to have a sort of D&D multiplayer session with it, still. The semi-positive opinions here inspire me to possibly go for it at a lower price than this in a future sale.
My memory is kinda fuzzy but didn't this game had a patch that improved gameplay alot?

Bloodlines had a really great patch that not only fixed some issues but also unlocked a lot of content that was left in the original release, but was inaccessible. I dont recall Redemption having a major patch. It was pretty buggy to begin with but if I rememeber a lot of that seemed to be due to the graphics at the time. I think I maybe sunk four or five hours into this before I got tired of it. As someone else said, the multiplayer is kind of cool in that it allows you to play more along the lines of pen and paper.

I think a GoG thread would be nice, but I think it failed....

Maybe I'll start one.

Though I will contest on this being a non-deal. Cheapy posts GQD reprints which are a "good" deal since you can't find them new anymore.... I would say these deals from GoG are the same, you wouldn't find an OS independent copy of VtMR anywhere for only 5.99.

This would be the likes of a reprint or new price drop..... they are deals.

To placate our Resident Crankynaut :oldman:, I'll just update this thread next week so as to minimize the number of threads you have to ignore.
Almost everything GOG puts out is a deal, being otherwise expensive unavailable games.
Exactly. A few weeks ago, Driver:parallel Lines was released. Not a deal (besides not 'Good' & 'Old) as it is widely available for less (Ubisoft's games are all 9.99) Both Vampire games, however, fit the rather rare and expensive category.

Redemption is the older average game.

Bloodlines is the really great game thats lightyears beyond redemption....and really isn't even similar cept for a few things.

I guess this is the place to ask, but can we assume this month these re-releases are taking the place of any sales they might have?

I think the re-releases are generally cool, but I was hoping for a deal on Rise of the Triad some time soon.

Didn't they have a sale in the past on the Triad or was it just the initial release....

Anyways, I bet it'll be a month full of Activision, so no sales is my guess.

They had an Apogee sale (25%) last April, and highlighted RotT as the 'Hidden Gem of the Week' (10%) in August. The holiday sale was probably the time to buy it, though. :(

Echoing xycury, GOG oddly didn't put up a Weekend deal last Friday...and this one, so far - it seems we'll have to wait for the month to end.

Ah thanks for the info. I got back into the PC world with the holiday steam sale and didn't even know about GOG until right after the sale ended. I guess I have to wait a year to see if Rise of the Triad was that great. I had the shareware and remember thinking it was the best thing since sliced bread.

I'm a fan of Bloodlines, but Redemption broke my heart. Anybody going into Redempton should be aware, that while it has a kick-ass story with Highlander guy, it has some of the worse allied character A.I. ever created. Imagine being forced to play Bloodlines with a partner that repeatedly uses all their blood magic until they go crazy and bite you over and over. Imagine backtracking down dank dungeon hallways so that you can lose your allies and therefore *gasp* face the next random encounter with some measure of control.

Then your thoughts start running like this: Can I kill my allies and later revive them when they are needed to advance the plot?

THANK YOU!!! that was driving me crazy because every other post is referencing the other games as "masquerade".

I liked bloodlines, haven't played redemption. The difference largely seems to be that bloodlines gives you control of your characters movement and actions while redemption is a click fest.

I picked up bloodlines during d2d $5 sale.

Were you patched to 1.1? An easy way to remember is if you could save anytime or only autosave at the end of levels.

Not sure which engine Redemption used but Bloodlines used the Source engine(same as Half life 2 and Left 4 Dead). I'm patiently waiting for a sale on Bloodlines or better yet a used copy of the game so I can play it with the patches.

I played both, and enjoyed them both. Still, I don't get why Bloodlines has such an enduring fanbase. Mechanics? Story? Graphics?

I had no idea VtMB used the Source engine, and I don't think there's much physics involved in the game. Shiny graphics and cool facial expressions, sure.

The company that made Bloodlines went out of business shortly after releasing it, so the patches are fan made. It would actually be interesting to see if that patch would work with a GOG version of Bloodlines.

You're confused.

You are right on the first part, but Gog has Redemption, not Bloodlines.

Bloodlines is on Steam and I heard reports that the community patch does work on that version. You have to self install it.

steam/d2d version of bloodlines does work completely fine with the user patches. both extra content and widescreen/fov
