CAGiversary!
what do you guys think are some of the greatest game dynasties of all time? mine include, the sims, madden and zelda! what's your guys' opinions??

thanks

hM

any games that you think are legendary, i mean it could be one if it was by far one of the best ever made, but usually when this happens there is always a sequel or 2... or 3

anything you think is worthy is fine, im looking for opinions from others around the country

thanks

hM

Since we are on the pc board I will say:

- Thief 1 & 2 (you don't know stealth until you play these games)
- NWN series (although hordes is bugged to hell it is still a great rpg series)
- Myst series (immersion at it's best)

I'd have to say The Sims, and Sim City games for the PC. Also Baldur's Gate series because it has become the standard by which all RPG's for the PC have been judged. Also I must add anything by Blizzard. It's one of the few companies that I would buy a game based solely on the developer. (of course that might be different now since so many have left). Diablo II was still in the top 20 games sold last year and I believe it was released in 2000. Amazing for a PC game...

Hasn't for the most part the baldur's gate series come to an end on the pc? I don't think the Dark Alliance series are even in the same league as the pc games. I think it would be better to say that all Forgotten Realms games constitute a single dynasty.

Edit: Tony Hawk, Gran Turismo, Phantasy Star, and Sonic series definitely dynasty.

id have to disagree with the definition of dynasty you guys are using, i would say its a series that has held up through the years and through each gen has stellar showings, games like zelda, castlevania, mario, metroid, street fighter, mega man. with a few exceptions, every game in the above series' is a classic game and still playable today because the gameplay in the games are just that good

I agree.. to be a dynasty(not a classic, a great or a series).. it needs to have many games in the series and a majority if not all need to be great games by themselves. I don't think The Sims cut it yet, if you ignore expansion packs.. there's been 1 pc game and a smattering of console games that are basically ports and expansions of the PC game.

Anyways, my vote is for Zelda.

Not so much a game but a company:

id - no other game company in history has had the impact that this company has:

Wolfenstein 3d - The birth of the FPS. Some would argue that others existed first, but this realy put it on the map.

Doom: Took FPS games to the next level with the inclusion of the networked deathmatch. Corporate servers were actually being so bombarded by the traffic that software was developed to specificaly
block Doom

Quake: The first MAJOR full 3d FPS that included what we now take for granted: Internet play

Also, look at the release of both Q3A & Doom III - What other company
has the power to FORCE the hardware developers to make hardware
that lives up to what they WANT to do - When Doom III was first shown,
there was no video card on the market that would run it. Nvidia & ATI rushed to make there products compatible, because they new that if their
hardware didn't run Doom III they would be done.

Now that is a dynasty

I would have to say the Final Fantasy series, simply because each game is different from the previous one. None of them, with the exception of X-2, uses the same characters, or battle system, or level ups. Certain games I either liked, or disliked, but I always need to play the next one that comes out.
