game of the year?

Nope. Not going to happen.
Not with the strong, strong lineups offered by so many companies this year.
It would be really hard for a console FPS to take game of the year, especially after Doom 3 hits, and if it's finished this year, Half Life 2.
 
Let's be realistic folks.

First of all this is the pc board so I am assuming we are talking about pc games here.

Secondly whenever D3 and HL2 come out they will win the title hands down. If they get released the same year my bet is on D3 even though I think HL2 will be a better game.

Halo2 isn't going to win crap. Unless halo2 can make monkeys fly out of your butt it will basically be more of the same with different guns and vehicles.

After the lukewarm response to playing doom 3 at e3, i think HL2 has a damn good chance.
 
I do not get that either. Why tell everyone your GOTY is Halo 2 in the Pc boards. Right now I would give the title to Far Cry or SC:pT (have not played the full game of either but the demo of SC:pT for online was amazing and all I keep hearing is praise about Far Cry). No matter what I think this year is going to have some outstanding games, but when it comes down to it FPS wise I will have to say the man with the CROWBAR stands superior to them all (unless we see NOLF 3 which I doubt) console wise I still stand by the Solid one

not doom 3..prolli outta the billions of pc gamer like..half will b able to play cuz u need a really strong computer for that..
 
halo 2 wont win anything, considering that only those that reserved the game are guaranteed to get it this year, and I bet not everybody will get it even on the release date even if they preordered it, Im not losing any sleep over halo 2 or if Ill get my preordered copy of it that it reserved like october of last year.

Actualy the requirements arent that high. I remember hearing that the game would even run smoothly with old geforce 2. Just wont run with as good quality and resolution. I dont care tho, i have a great gaming rig.

Honestly, How can you really guess which game will be game of the year when it hasn't even been released yet? You people probably thought Pearl Harbor, the movie was going to be movie of the year just because it had Ben Afflek and burning aircraft carriers in it, didn't you ?....(this is a rhetorical question, you don't have to try to answer it with your puny echo-filled brain cavities)

I'm going to have a BIG LAST LAUGH when Halo 2 doesn't even get released until late 2004 (like right before christmas) or even 2005. Are you sure this games subtitle isn't "...Duke Nuke'em to infinity"? (this is another one of those questions that are really statements and don't call for an answer)

bmulligan, this is all just speculation, and everyone is entitled to his or her opinion. If one of my all time favorite games is Halo (not because of the crazy hype), then I have a right to expect much out of Halo 2. From what I have seen, I have no reason to expect that this game will disappoint. No, I have not played any of it, and no, I do not know that this game will release this year. I am just having fun by guessing what game might be Game of the Year, something that is completely subjective in and of itself. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and my 'just for fun' guess for GotY is Halo 2.
 
I don't think this will be a disappointment. All the demos have been awesome and I'm rooting for HALO 2 for GOTY.
 
im hoping suikoden 4...but i doubt it. i hated suikoden 3, and i dunno if they will change 4 enough to make it as classic as the first 2
 
A console FPS will never win over a PC FPS. There will be at least a dozen good to excellent PC FPS games this year, all of which will probably top Halo 2. UT2004 and Painkiller could easily be better than Halo 2. I just don't think it can compete with what is schedueled to be released.
 
I don't know. Why don't you ask this question again in January when we've had a chance to play all these games. Besides, half of the games that are already being considered will probably get delayed anyway (Halo 2, GT4, Conker).
 
For a change I want an RPG to win GOTY.. games to be released like Star Ocean 3, Sudeki, Tales of Symphonia and Fable. Fable would likely (if it lives up to the hype) get a GOTY nomination, although it should be between Halo 2 or Half Life 2.

Really? I loved suikoden 3 and didnt like the others... I think largely the graphics style of suikoden 3 some how made my day.
 
has n e one ever played halo multiplayer..n so far everyones (who went to e3) is sayin that halo 2 multiplayer is even better. me n my friends played count less hours on that game..n not to forget the LAN games u can play (via router n all that crap) even if the game is a let down (which i doudt) the multiplayer will kick ass
 
Isn't it a little early? I think this might be a good thread come Nov., when most of these hyped up games are already out :)

But, I'm giving the guys the benefit of the doubt. Who knows? Maybe they can turn it around.
 
Do you guys honestly think that a game that has been in development for over 5 years now and is the sequel to 1998 game of the year is not going to win?!?! You guys are silly it's done already man if HL2 comes out this year it is for sure going to get game of the year, the other games mentioned kick ass, but half life 2 is going to do what HL1 did redifine the FPS genre and how we think of games. If not HL2 my strong support would be for Doom III, or Halo 2, or star wars 2, good god the list could go on forever but i seriously can't see HL2 not getting it
 
hes rite at one point.. but jus cuz the games been in devlopment for however long dont mean its gonna b good. half life 2 is gonna shine..but there other matters to jus redifine game play...
 
I don't understand everyone saying Halo 2 has no shot at being game of the year because its a console fps....wasn't the first halo a console fps? Didn't that win some GOTY awards? Thought so. That being said any fps is going to be held to a high bar this year with so many high profile games in the genre coming out. I personally am really looking forward to a number of games and cannot even guess at which will be the best.
 
I think since this is the PC forum the games in question should be limited to PC. I have a feeling that the GotY is going to come out of nowhere, especially since Doom 3 and HL2 both need to live up to the hype first. I think its really too early to tell though.
 
Doesn't anyone think that an PC RPG could win GOTY. I mean come on Star Wars KOTOR 2 is coming out, and i'll admit that it might be more of the same but it could possibly redefine the genre again like the previous one. the last one bridged the gap between PC and Console RPG's as well as Western and Eastern styles of RPG making
