I've decided I would like to pick up a micro :gba:. I've been looking at ebay, and they seem to be hovering around $80 new/sealed. Does this seem like a decent price? I can't remember how much they were when they came out.

I may bid on a couple decent looking used ones, but if the bids go to high I'll probably just spring for a new one.

Anybody have an opinion on these little gems? Do you like them and/or want one also?

i still have one and love it. i thought about selling it though because i do have a ds.
the only reason why i havent is cuz its small and so easy to carry around

i never really payed attention when these came out. IF i want one just for GBA games would it be better to get one of these or an SP? I dont think these work with the link GC link cables.. so the GBA SP may be a better bet, but id like a new one and finding a new SP for < 100 is impossible

BTW im also curious what the going rate on a new one is . What WERE these when they came out? At about 70 bucks or so i think i may get one but more than that sounds kinda meh.

Do they run on AA batteries or their own pack? and can you just plug it into the wall with an ac adaptor and play it that way?

They're too small to run on AA or even AAAs. They have their own battery packs. As for link cables, I don't really know. From the pics I've seen I don't think there is a port for a link cable.

I won a micro on eBay yesterday as part of a GBA lot - I'll try to let you know more about them when I receive it. I'm thinking it could be fairly beat up, but since it came as part of a larger lot I'm not too worried about it.

As for finding SPs new... I would suggest just buying adult owned used ones. My SP basically still looks brand new.

Update:
Gotta love wikipedia.

A few quick bullet points from that link:
rechargeable battery that's supposed to give 5 to 8 hours of play time.
Original retail was $99.
About adapters:

"While Game Boy or Game Boy Advance Game Link cables and the Game Boy Advance Wireless Adapter are not compatible with the Game Boy Micro system, adapters and a Game Boy Micro-compatible Wireless adapter have been released."

I didn't even know there was a wireless GBA adapter - is that for multiplayer?

Anyway, guess I answered a lot of my own questions. Yay.

THIS. The idea of having such a cool little gadget with such a HUGE game library that I will barely feel in my pocket is very appealing to me.

Thanks for your input.

tnx for the info teknikalei

I may wind up keeping an eye out for one then. I want a NEW one though. I see the anniversery edition most of the time, is that the one to go for? The other ones i see look shady.. looks to be in a blister pack or something. Are those real or bootlegs?

tnx for the info on the battery btw, but what about the power cable? Im asuming if its rechargable, you can just play with it plugged into the wall directly right?

I think it was only used for pokemon.

I wanted one so baddly when they came out, but couldn't justify the $100! I shopped around some local swap meets and shops and everyone seems to be selling them for around $80...

New ones, you should look to shell out around $60-$65.

Someone was just selling an Anniversary edition for $65 that was new, so that may be your best option.

Otherwise, if you don't mind used, that previous message applies. ^__^

Good luck either way.

If you can't get one for less than $80 in the package anymore, then the price is definitely trending back up. I got a black one new in the box a couple of years ago on Ebay for $50 - I remember that it felt overpriced at that time, but I couldn't get one for less. I sincerely doubt they'll go back down in price.

For what it's worth, even though the anniversary edition is more collectible, I prefer the black system with a black faceplate.

Good luck on your search!

I love the Micro. Awesome little system.
$80 is probably fair for a sealed one. I got lucky and found one in a GS, sealed for $70 last year.

I'm the Internet Sales Manager for a local pawn shop. We primarily sell things on eBay and we use a website called Terapeak to check price trends on eBay before listing.

According to Terapeak, the lowest price for a new GameBoy Micro in the past week was $76.99 and the highest used price was $65. Of course these are just winning bids and not necessarily completed transactions.

Not sure if this helps, but thought I should share.

is that supposed to come in a crappy looking clamshell package? The ones i see look like theyre in a weird cheap package that i usually equate with hong kong knockoffs

im also curious if you can play this plugged into the wall with the power cable/charger.. im assuming so but figtured id double check

All the gameboy micro's besides the anniversary edition come in a box with a see through top. The anniversary edition is the only one thats comes packaged in a regular box. You can check this ign article for pictures of how the package is supposed to look like. http://gameboy.ign.com/articles/650/650400p1.html

You can play it while it's plugged in since I use mine that way sometimes.
