So I've never traded in anything to GameCrazy. Can anyone tell me how they do their trade-ins? In other words, I can only receive in-store credit rather than cash?

You can get both but they limit what you can trade in for cash (no systems). Also they guarantee the best trade in value so if gamestop or blockbuster tell you more they can call them and match the price.

Systems do trade-in for cash though that might be YMMV. The policy now is they match competitor's trade prices plus give an extra 5%.

Cash trades are limited to how much business the store does, so you'll have a better chance if you're getting cash to go at night.

Thanks for the quick replies everyone!

I'm looking to actually trade-in a game and was hoping to get cash from it rather than credit. But as you suggested, this shouldn't be a problem?

Will Gamecrazy price match Gamestop promotions, like the trade 2 get an extra $10? And will they match the price I'd get with my Edge card?

Why would GC match a promotion? And why would GC give you an extra 10% with Edge card when they try to push the MVP card?!

Well, he said that would match a price that I could get at Gamestop. So if I could get $30 for a game after promotions, theoretically, they would match that.

GC matches the base price. They don't match promotion prices.

0_0 Why does anyone flip to BBV if game crazy will match it and carries a lot more games, and a full selection of movies in hollywood video?

Because there's a few hundred Gamecrazy locations and a few thousand Blockbusters.

Wait, what? I've never heard the 5% thing - I'm guessing this is fairly new? I consider myself lucky if I can get a store to acknowledge they have any sort of trade-in price matching policy at all. One guy told me he'd love to adjust the prices to match Blockbuster's but he'd get in trouble with his manager for changing the prices in the system . Others simply tell me there is no such policy. My fav GC does it no problem, but none of this extra 5% thing. However, there is one guy at one store that has added my MVP bonus to the trade-in match (which is awesome). So, basically, there's no consistency to it - and all my experiences have been at neighboring stores in the same metro area. But this is the first I've heard of this 5% thing, that's for sure.

yea the stores around here are all over the place when it comes to policies. closest gc pricematches trades no problem. the one a little farther away doesn't, but they pricematch sale ads. i end up having to trade at location 1 and get a giftcard to use at location 2 when i need to pricematch sale items.

No Gamecrazys in Tampa >

Oh yeah, and I forgot the one store that told me they do match trade-in prices but not to Blockbuster because, according to him, Blockbuster gives one set price for all Xbox 360 games and does not price them according to value . Where he came up with that load of crap I have no idea.

The "match trade + extra 5%" was quietly announced via an internal memo on the intranet at each store, if the employee doesn't check it daily, they would never know. There's a lot that GC does wrong, and announcing things on the intranet with no other way of knowing is just one of the many things.

i went into my local Hollywood Video(worked there for 3yrs) and seen they finally got one of those big double sided glass cases. looks pretty nice. i was surprised when my former manager told me they finally take game trades. i think id be better trading there then @ BB/GS. i think id enjoy the extra 5% price matching. but id have to check to see if HWs do it or just GCs. i can imagine both do. ill probably go back there in a few days and get some good info about it

Wow, so the Hollywoods with the game cases also take trades now? I'll have to ask at mine - it is much more convenient than the nearest Gamecrazy. But yeah, only if they will price match Blockbuster (which they should as a competitor since they are 1/4 mile apart).

However, my GC did inform me of the 5% trade-in price match boost so hooray for them finally reading the memo! The guys there are generally pretty happy when I bring in the Blockbuster quotes as they invariably use them themselves to trade in their own games.

The selection of new games that Hollywood now carries is much better than what they have over at Blockbuster. However, Blockbuster has their used games in much better condition (often converted rentals were never actually rented and they are near mint and complete while the Hollywood seems to ditch original cases and such).

yea i have one of the booklets in front of me, its mirrored to GameCrazy's ad, they call it GameZone. well @ my HW, they rent to u the original game case. they started using the actual game cases i think a year or so ago. it would just be great for me trading there cuz i dont think they ever accuse me of stealing and such ala BB. lol

I've only been to one Gamecrazy location, but walking in I just get the impression that it's worse than gamestop on many aspects...and I hate gamestop.
The prices on used items are at least one or two dollars higher than gamestop.
I haven't tried trading anything in, but I get the general impression that the prices will be just like gamestop or worse.
The store also feels dirty, and dark. The staff is the same as most gamestop (teenagers who know very little and love to just babble on, and annoy)
