CAGiversary!
IMPORTANT NEW CHANGES. READ THIS POST OKAY?

Okay there are some changes now. The coupon just became a whole lot less useful. It only works on use merchandise now...

It can be used online and instore though, and it stacks with edge, so if you are buying a lot used it's still good, but it has become fairly worthless to me for now...

I am not sure if this updates yet. We'll have to wait and see.

Thanks to:
daemeous - For getting this latest one
hordak - The one before this one
Chronis - The one before that.

F.A.Q.:
  1. Using it on a B2G1 Free sale is EXTREMELY YMMV. The computer won't allow to premade promos to happen at the same time. In order to get it to work, the cashier would need to to the 10% manually.(not likely to happen)
  2. Not valid on consoles, as stated in the coupon notes.
  3. I doubt it's pricematchable since someone asked this in the last thread I figured I'd add this in.
  4. It no longer works on new games
  5. It stacks with Edge on used games/accessories
  6. No it doesn't stack with other coupons. Unless your cashier is very nice. And stupid. Again, it would need to be done manually to have 2 promos/coupons.
  7. I do not have the e-mail to forward yet, and it may not be helpful since we're not sure if it updates yet.
  8. The Address on the coupon is for the Corporate Headquarters
  9. This will not work with bundles
  10. It does not work with pre-orders Period now.
  11. When you print the coupon, it is suggested to cut it so the non-Gamestop URL is gone. We don't want to raise suspicions now.

Wow, I didn't realize it only works on used stuff now.

I guess the JPG version we had that expires on 04/11 is the last non-used-only coupon we get? That blows.

It's still better than nothing - thank you! This is actually useful for someone like me who has 9% sales tax and likes to pick up their under-$10 used GC and PS2 games. It's still cheaper than getting them online after taking shipping into account. But if this works online now and stacks with SAVER (AFF25 never did) it could be great for those really cheap games.

I think we all got a little spoiled over the past months. This is still effectively a way to double the effects of an edge card when buying.

Yeah, it's really only useful in-store now...but only if there's not a better coupon available from the weekly newsletter. Online, It's worthless. Just use CAG15. I guess they had to do something, since they couldn't find a way to keep people from using it over and over again. Oh well. Thems the breaks!

Maybe people would buy more used games if they didn't gut the damn things and put stickers under the plastic on the spine.

Gamestop is so fucking stupid about that.

I used this two weeks ago to pick up a used copy of God of War for the psp. I picked it up for 27.99 after this coupon and the edge card.:)

This is the type of post that needs to be printed and taped to the front of every Gamestop store in America.

Unfortunately, seeing as they made record profits last year, and they make a majority of their profit from the used games they sell, they really don't care. Also, plenty of the used games at GS are complete. I have gotten a lot of good stuff in the past form them, especially when coupons are in effect. The stickers on the inserts are quite annoying, unfortunately.

I like to agree with you, apparently. It's not evil or obtuse of a corporation to maintain a practice that maximizes or at least continues to generate profit.
I've bought loads of used stuff from GS/EB in the last decade plus with little complaint. I have no idea what stickers you all are talking about. Do you mean the price stickers? The ones that tell customers how much the games cost? These have always been on the case at my stores, not the insert.

You might want to look into that: :)

Yes. Many stores tend to actually place the stickers inside the case, on the insert, often on the spin of the insert. You can only imagine the damage that can be done trying to get that off. It also leaves a nasty residue mark. Once, I even bought a game that had the stick on the back of the instruction manual. That one completely threw me.

This is obviously not a corporate policy, because plenty of stores don't do it. What exactly makes certain store managers think this is a grand idea is completely beyond me. Then again, maybe it is corporate policy, and some halfway intelligent employees actually figured out that it was probably one of the dumbest things on earth (well, not really, but still :) ).

This sucks... Rapestop just got a little bit more "rapier"... Isn't the other coupon that works on NEW merchandise still good thru the 11th tho? or am I wrong? I couldn't find the thread for it...

Sometimes I think hating on Gamestop is some type of sporting event here on CAG. It kinda sucks that the coupon isnt good on new stuff anymore, especially with GTAIV coming soon (hmmm conspiracy?), but mostly, I've had good dealings with my local gamestops. I buy pretty much all of my games used, have only once or twice gotten an incomplete game and even if there are surface scratches, I've never had a game that didnt work (/knocks on wood).

But the 'stickers' thing really blows me. I guess because I'm at heart a "gamer" and not a "game collector", those things dont matter to me (though admittedly, with all the recent sales, I've been doing more 'collecting' than actual 'gaming' ;)). In the end though, if one doesnt like a store's practices, that person is, of course, free to shop elsewhere. The biggest vote you can make is with your wallet!
lata,

Huh. I guess I can see how that would be annoying if you cared about that kind of thing. Ironic that it's never happened at my stores and I don't give a crap about stickers or booklets. Like hostyl1, as long as the disc plays, I'm happy.

Sometimes, it depends on what game it is and how the rest of the game/case/manual looks. I actually just bought a used copy of Xenosaga I for $4 at Gamestop. The case was spotless, and the game was flawless. I didn't think much of it, but when I got home and was taking off the price stickers, I realized that the sticker that was at the spine was under the the plastic, and that, to remove it, I'd have to take out the insert and carefully peel off the sticker. It's more of a cosmetic issue as when you have a bunch of games to display, it's just ugly to have a price sticker on them, even worse if it has "used" plastered on it.

Of course, the game actually working is a big part of it, but even if you're not a hardcore collector (or a collector at all), I'm sure most people would rather their games look nice and unmarred by a price sticker. But that's just my opinion.

Looking at this, It's a damn good thing I decided to go to Gamestop yesterday instead of today. I went to GS and used the old coupon (the 10% off of anything) to buy Mana Khemia boxed and sealed for $36.

I think that the reason for the spine stickers are because of those bins they use for cheaper games. They tend to stack them spine out so putting the sticker on the spine is probably the best way to keep the bin organized, so everyone doesn't have to pull out every game they see to check the price. But why they put them on the actual insert is beyond me. They seem to be good enough that they wouldn't come off even though they'd have corners on both sides... Also, why they put the insert stickers on games on wall racks is completely beyond me, since you see the front of the box, not the spine. THEN you have the back stickers which.... I don't even know which GS's display the back of their games....

For those of you know haven't seen these insert stickers: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v242/Chronis676/DSCN0398.jpg

GS should make their coupons last longer so they don't have to keep coming out with new 10% coupon all the time

Yes, obviously, that is probably the most likely reason why they put the stickers on the spine. Then again, the spines of games already have the titles. Even the generic GS case insert will have the game's title printed on it.

Well, this is done to cover up the original product UPC, so they don't scan that when selling it to you.

Missed this earlier...

Sometimes I think hating on Gamestop is some type of sporting event here on CAG.
Unfortunately, it certainly extends well beyond CAG. Go to any internet community that has anything to do with video games, and you'll see "LameStop," "RapeStop," and blah blah blah. It's like any other company that is the leader in its industry. Microsoft, Dell, EA, whatever. Even though there are obviously things to complain about it when it comes to such companies, people take it a silly extreme, making themselves look like children in the process.

Personally, I have a GameStop that is about five blocks or so from my house. The employees there aren't always the greatest, but it is convenient for me to go there, and there are plenty of great deals on used stuff to make me keep coming back.

I will probably not ever buy a new game from them now, they almost never have good deals on new stuff. Oh well, at least used games have a nice coupon now.

OK. We get it. You don't really love everything about Gamestop but it is convenient and you hate it when people complain about the company. But the fact that so damn many people have issues with Microsoft, Dell, EA, and Gamestop should give you a clue... You don't see nearly as many people bitching about Apple, Vivendi/Blizzard and Gamecrazy and most of the bitching is more on an individual employee/product level rather than the basic issue with the company's core practices.

Oh I hate that. As an employee, it makes sense to us. We have to do a thing called "Title on Hand" to see what cases are on the floor and whats not. They typically only put stickers on the spine for bookcased games. What really bothers me is when they put the fuck ing stickers on the artwork! Why not the case! They can still come off! I've damaged artwork for games because of this crap! I refuse to do this sticker thing on any games I put on the shelves. Those damn things don't come off easily!

:bomb:

Exactly. Just find a location that you like. I've been to over 70 stores in the Ohio area and I've found that the ones outside my area (Columbus) are more friendlier than in Columbus. I've found many of the employees in the Cincinnati and Dayton areas are cool as well as those towns in the sticks around there. Many people in Columbus treat my kind like fuck ing a-holes.

It's sad.

my game stops dont stick the sticker on the spine, its just like a piece of paper under that plastic that comes right out.

So they finally caught on and made the new coupon applicable to used merchandise only. fuck them!

I was so hoping that coupon would last until after MGS4 release. Oh well.

I think we could see the old coupon come back after GTA IV. Alot of stores would like to maximize profit on this game.

I'm thinking that same thing, even though GTA doesn't come out till the 29th right I'm thinking maybe just it'll come back after GTA drops.

damn, so this coupon now only applies to USED? ah, sucks... i was hoping to save a few bucks with pre-orders (store credit or what nots).
