Gamestop Coupon=50%...

Fireshooter

CAGiversary!
Where can I buy games for less and sell them at Gamestop for more, credit wise? I have the Game Informer card and coupon where it says you get recieve 50% more credit, but I don't want to sell my games. I rather buy a cheap game and sell it for more, since I'm getting 50% more. So, does EB or Bestbuy or any other store have cheap games I can buy? Thanks.

This is what's called "flipping" in the trading world, and it's usually frowned upon at the site.

I'm not gonna lock the thread, but don't blame me if you get a harsh reaction to this. Also, this should be in Deal Discussion.

"This guy is good for laugh"

Seriously, I got a crazy idea that just might work if you want to make money...get a job.

It's pretty hard to buy from 1 retailer and trade to another retailer for a profit.

Your best bet is to buy relatively new used games from rental companies and resell them on eBay for a tidy profit.

(You'll be called a hoarder for this, but most CAGers prefer to buy new games instead of used. Go figure.)

Another tactic is to get on good terms with local pawn shop or independent retailers in your area. After a while, they will give you access to good deals they pass on. For example, I bought a refurbished PS2 with a wireless controller for $53 and I'm currently selling it for $86.

(You'll probably be called a hoarder for this also, but most CAGers won't invest the time it takes to develop business relationships.)

You have to do your research because some new games have no resale value (ie Project: Snowblind, NBA Street V3, etc.)

If you watch the main thread, there will be occasional deals that offer some profit. However, give your fellow CAGers a few courtesy hours (or days (or weeks)) to jump on deals so you can laugh off the occasional "hoarder" insult.

A nice thing to do that might win over the "silent majority" of CAGers is to share the occasional easy hustle that nets a quick profit.

(You'll be called a hoarder for this, but, at least, you're not an a--hole that relies on opinion instead of logic to convince the third party.)

Last but not least, expect to spend a considerable amount of time researching deals. The amount of money you make will be based on the amount of time you invest.

Frowned upon?

From what I've seen, flipping is done by a majority of the users here and is actually encouraged in some cases.

i thought flipping was if you got the game for the same place

Like the BB deal where you trade 3 games in get a used game for 5
then if you took that 5 buck BB game and traded it back in. i thought that was flipping.

Ditto Roufus! This is most apparent in the with many CAG's when CC has 1.99 & 9.99 game sales. So frowned upon I think not.

Why the heck is this frowned upon? Haha. That's hillarious. This site's purpose is to save gamers money and help them make a profit if the situation occurs. I went to EBgames one time and bought 36 Preowned games during their "buy 2 get 1 free sale" and went to Media Play and traded them in for 9 BRAND NEW $50 games. I spent about $90 at EB (bought CRAPPY games for under $2-3) and traded them in for $450 worth of new game. . This was when Media Play had the "trade in 4 games for 1 new free game". I racked up! I don't think it was wrong and am still enjoying those games to this day. I sold 3 on ebay to make back what I spent plus some at EB. SO I look at it like I got 6 free games!!!!

If you are considering buying and selling flipping, then consider me the king flipper.

Good luck with your idea. Gamestop doesn't trade in games for too much. There aren't enough deals currently to justify the time you would spend looking for cheap new games. I would be all over this if I could, but I believe Gamestop lowered the trade value on some of their games to cut costs for the 50% deal.

One suggestion, Block Buster is having a buy 2 get 1 free sale. All their games are 14.99 so buying 3 would cost you $30 + tax. I got 2 Tekken 5s, 1 GT4, 2 MGS3, and 1 Tony Hawk Underground 2 and paid $66. I sold them ALL on ebay this week and made about $80 in profit, but you could have taken all of these into Gamestop and made A LOT of credit. Check Blockbuster out.

Exactly.

Let's take a recent example, using the GT 4 trade-in deal... I've already seen threads and discussions on

1) Which games to get for $5 dollars at Best Buy that trade to EB
2) Two or three conversations about buying cheap games at Blockbuster / Gamerush to trade in for GT 4
3) How much trade in credit GT 4 gets at Gamerush and how you can amass a ton of credit
4) I think I've seen a discussion on how much trade in credit GT 4 gets at FYE
5) How you can get a sealed GT 4 for a few crappy games, and take it back to EB and get your full credit back to spend on something else

I flip games between stores occasionally, but to say it's frowned upon at CAG is hilarious.

Flipping? I call it... 'taking advantage of'.

I used to be against that kind of stuff, but as I see it, I'm not the only one doing it. I know that doesn't make it right, but if others keep doing it than we won't get these deals, right?

So why should I suffer because others take advantage of an offer while I just sit around doing nothing? Is that going to stop them? Hell no. I might as well do it too if we're all getting screwed in the end.

Yah that's what I thought. I think ppl are using this term a bit too loosely. I see hardly anything wrong with buying a game from store A and trade it in for store B, if profit is involved. You're more likely to be called a hoarder than a flipper, but just do it silently, don't brag about it and you'll be fine. Keep up to date w/ trade-in prices in active threads as well as pay visits to desired game stores to check prices. Plan ahead and plan well, once you get the hang of it, you can cut down the amount you'll need to spend to buy new games.

I wish my Blockbuster was selling those games for that cheap.

Last I looked, there were no T5s, GTASAs were $30, MGS3 were $24 and THUG2 was $20.

Where are you getting your awesome deals?

Well, I believe flipping is the process of taking one store's stock and moving it to a different store for a profit. I'm pretty sure the point of say, the GT 4 trade in deal, isn't for it's customers to go to Blockbuster, buy the shittiest three games on the rack that qualify and trade them to EB for a brand new 49.99 game.

Likewise, I'm sure the point of Gamerush's trade 3 get any game for $5 wasn't for customers like me to go to Gamestop and use their buy 2 get 1 free to get 3 2.99 games (and pay 6 dollars for all three) and trade them to GR making a 44.99 preowned game for $5, which I paid for with the credit from the 3 games I bought.

As I see it, flipping is more taking advantage of the loopholes that exist.

Hoarding is when you buy as much of a store's stock as you can to make profit off other people directly that don't know anybody, imo.

So, hoarding is flipping with an extra 0?

I'm surprised there aren't more people dogging the OP, but it's probably past their bedtimes.

Epic Wolf, did you catch that git whom called me a "Ping Pal hoarder"? That was damn funny.

I think some BB have disc only versions that they sell for dirt cheap, compared to their complete counterparts. Don't quote me on that though hehe

bastard gamestop....i got the card, and i only got 1 game informer !! either theyr gettin stolen, or they just 4got and failed at life !!!..FLIP ON!!

This is the only questionable method. But if the store allows it then go for it. I don't think there's any problems trading for one game and then reselling it to another store.

Hoarding is a different subject and is frowned upon. Especially if the games are decent games; you would be taking away someone else's chance to try/play that game just so you can make a little profit in store credit.

I haven't seen much frowning upon flipping here. Back when EB had that extra $10 thing when you trade in 2 games (right beofre the PSP came out) people were taking advantage of it like mad. I've never done it due to laziness and lack of a car, but it's commonly discussed here.

Hoarding is a bit different because that usually refers to getting a whole bunch of rare or on sale games and turning a profit on them, which sucks for everyone else since they can't get a copy.

But flipping is completely different because it's generally on used games that have been that price for awhile, and most stores won't let you trade in more than one copy of the same game. And besides, both stores are happy since one made a sale for the price they asked, and the other bought a game for the price they ask, so there's no harm done.

Ya, some are disk only, but on ebay they sell for about the same price. People will buy anything. However, about half of the games I got had guides. I live in Nashville, TN and this seems like a regular thing. I don't even have a gamerush. Wish I did though.

flipping is lame.. i only get games because i want to play them not because i want to turn over this big profit.. not frowned upon but it isn't entriely the sites "purpose"

Look at the GTAs! People are freaking out about this game. I just went to CD Warehouse and bought their last 2 PS2 copies for $35 each and have sold them for $50 each. Love ebay. I just call this video game money. I keep tabs and when I make a certain amount on ebay, I go and get a game I want. This way I don't blow all my money.

That's why most people flip with games they have no intention of ever playing.
