Gamestop/EB Games Likely not to have Ps3 or Wii Pre-Order?

I was talking to a friend today who told runs a local GS store around here, and he told me that while on this past weeks conference call his DM said there is talk about not having a Ps3 Or Wii pre-order since most GS/Eb stores over took reservations and were still fullfilling them months after launch date.

Apparently each gs/eb store will only be getting 10-15 ps3 systems per store. Has anyone else heard about this? if this is true it looks like its going to be a lineup wherever you go.

well they arent going to take them until the fall likely, after the big annual gamestop conference. but pretty much all stores wont be getting many as sony is trying to pull a world wide launch, so get ready to pre order or line up.

PS3 has no announce date. Wii had no announce date. How are they already getting shipment amounts? Fact is, there not.

Perfectly said...

hmm? I thought PS3 was already dated for Nov 17.

Naturally they wouldnt have shipment numbers yet, but I bet they've been trying to come up with estimates based on Sony's Launch targets and the various proportions of the total they've been getting before.

The manager at EB told me that as soon as they announce the date/price on the Wii, that they will start taking pre-orders. He told me it should happen by September for sure.

My local Gamestop manager told me they weren't taking pre-orders on PS3. Even those "We can't guarantee you'll get one" pre-orders they did with the 360.

There's no way they'd lose that much money. Of course they will be taking pre-orders, just not yet. And of course they'll fuck you over, like they did with the 360 by accepting more pre-orders than consoles they are getting in.

This is incorrect. PS3 is launching mid-november. I believe the exact date is November 17.

I'm betting the physical store allotments will be VERY VERY small with these console launches. GameStop/EB will be doing all they can to sell the vast majority of their consoles though the web and force craptastic bundles.

From what I've heard from a couple of reliable gamestops in my area, they plan to take reservations a few months before the release dates for the consoles (end of summer/early fall).

I think that Nintendo and Sony are focusing on getting the majority of their systems to bigger stores - like BB, CC, CompUSA, etc rather than these `smaller` stores since the general public is not as aware about these stores.

Also, if you want to pre-order, FYE is currently taking preorders and have since the beginning of May. Better hurry, as they probably won`t get many units per stores.
