Gamestop: Free Nintendogs Virtual Gift 10/28-10/30
i work at the stop and we havn't heard anythign about this
What?! You work at Gamestop!? When did this happen!?
Who is Haylie Duff?
Hilary Duff's sister.

I wonder if this will also be at EB.. since, well, you know.
I'm going just for the message from Haylie Duff, goddamnit. ;)
What in the world are you talking about? I know who she is, but I don't see what she has to do with Gamestop or Nintendogs.

They probably picked a popular person just to get people into the store, since a lot of people in the age group that would listen to Duff probably play nintendogs, it makes sense. Also to sell more nintendog games.

My bad, I didn't read the link in the OP. So it seems that Haylie Duff will be leaving some prerecorded message somehow when we download something.

Yeah, probably through the voice feature, make sure you turn the volume on, im only going for the exclusive gift, and gamestop is like 5 min from my house, and i am usually near there on saturdays anyways.

Time to clean up my message when I get to Gamestop. Wouldn't want the little kids to hear what I left on there. Let's just say it's a little heavy on the dirty words.

Most likely ill be the only one there for the download, since no one will know about it, last time gamestop had downloads was for the pokemon ruby/sapphire games, i loaded up on those downloads lol!

for those interested...

you get the voice message from haylie, her dog is unlocked if you don't already have it (the king cocker spaniel, i believe), her profile shows up in your friends list, and the item is a pair of green sparkly star sunglasses for your dog.

Well so much for the suprise, haha. I was hoping for a witch hat.

So do we have to actually go into Gamestop for this to work? I mean, since it will be in bark mode and all, can I just go to the parking lot, do this thing in my car, and then just leave?

How do you know all of this? It's kind of scary how you know so much.

i've read about it on other message boards... these things are already in stores, and it's not just gamestop doing it... here's the deal, as reported by others...

starting on the 10th, nintendo reps were visiting stores and changing out the demo kiosks. stores with only one unit (best buy, walmart, etc.) got their nintendogs demo replaced by the new metroid pinball demo, as we've been seeing. stores with 2 units linked together (gamestop, ebgames, etc.) got advance wars replaced by metroid pinball, and nintendogs replaced with an updated nintendogs demo, which includes this haylie download. so this gift is actually available at other stores.

this event is just a special nintendo/gamestop/spca thing. a certain percentage of nintendo sales are going to the spca over this weekend. the download is just a way to help advertise the event and get people in the door.

Do you have to enter bark mode on the demo as well or just stand near the demo when its turned on and enter bark mode on your DS?

Anyone know? Really don't want to drive to Gamestop and take my DS inside, and then have to make small talk and get hit up to buy stuff.

I went into GameStop yesterday to get some stuff and had my DS.

I turned on one of the two DSs, the one that WASN'T Metroid Pinball.
It went right into a counter for how many people it accessed. I was #5. I got a rubber mushroom and no message.

Guess they're advertising buddies even though other places may have the same demo?

yep... i've already seen the updated nintendogs demo at a few different retailers (gamestop, ebgames, target, best buy). you can tell because the nintendogs signage on the kiosk has a little note saying that you can get an exclusive download item.

although, i don't really understand why this thing is at target and best buy... can't imagine too many people go there with their DS in hand.

Heh, certainly not Best Buy... they'll accost you for bringing anything in their store. Like when my friend and I were walking around, bought a few games at MicroCenter, then went to BB.. the guy basically grabbed the bag out of my hand to dig around, and then tag them. Lucky them... I was totally planning on planting merchandise from another store in their shelves.

Just went to my EB on the off chance that they would have this, and they do! The system was set up weird though. Someone (probably a dumb employee) had the DS set up to download play. I turned it off, started up "Nintendogs Bark Mode" as the game was called, and downloaded my HaylieDuff voice message (which was loud and embarassing), K.C. Spaniel, and star glasses.

Very nice considering I didn't even think they'd have it and I planned a visit to GameStop this weekend for that and then to KB for clearance crap. I can take that off the list now.

so you have to go into the store to do this... man i dont want to look like a dork trying to get a nintendogs download if there is a lot of people in the store.....

me neither...i will be in southern pa visting my brother, and I don't want to hear the shit from him

Cool. It's a big deal to me, the nearest EB is about 2 or 3 miles from me. The closest Gamestop is about 45 miles away.

I was the only one there, aside from the employees, and they seemed pretty casual, especially since as I soon as I walked in, one greeted me and the other informed me that they have The Bible Game for Xbox. I was also the first one to use the thing as it keeps a counter on the screen.

I think you dont have to go inside. Like someone suggested above, you can be in your car in the parking lot and still get the message and gift.

The built-in wireless is meant to work for 100 feet, and with a few obstructions like windows and doors in mind, your range should still be a-okay

I will be experimenting with this over the weekend, i am not embarrassed to do it or anything, im a girl and i look like i am about 16 although i really am a lot older than 16! Will be a bit of a pain to carry the DS around though.

I'm going. The wife and I both have DS's with Nintendogs, so we'll probably do that tomorrow morning. Even though the actual treat sounds kind of lame, it'll be fun to have I suppose!

Everyone that's worried about being seen, just put your DS in bark mode, lower the volume, stick it in your pocket, walk up to the display, set it to bark mode if its not already, walk out and check it.

I think everyone who is embarrassed should just get over it. It's a fun game, there's no reason to be all worked up that someone would see you playing Nintendogs. I'm going in with pride for my free download!

I went into my EB to see if they had the "Unique gift" version of Nintendogs plugged in. What greeted me was Elvis, a dalmation (!) in a Luigi hat. It was listed as the manager's dog, well fed but filthy and only knew "down" and "lay down." He says it seems to be eternally dirty everytime he takes it out, though his husky can stay clean. Oh yeah, all I got was a rubber bone. And no recorded message. But I guess in this case, the "gift" was unlocking the dalmation breed.

I'm guessing this was just a promo dog and he didn't really spend much time with it except for doing some personalization.

While I was there, I tried out Metroid Prime Pinball and DDR Mario Mix. Holy crap, that game's too easy; it's going to be a very bad tournament. (Check your EB. Mine is having a Mario DDR dance-off next Saturday with the game as the prize.)

Yeah, I was considering quitting to enter the tournament and then reapplying, hehe.

Thankfully i have EB games and Gamestop both within 5 min of each other where i live! I wonder what other gifts are availible through other kiosks!

Dude it's a videogame store, everyone in there including the employees is a total game dork.
