We got an email at work today detailing GS's new discount card. For those of you unfamiliar, the current card costs $10 and gets you a %10 discount on used games, used accessories, and used DVDs for 10 months. You also get a 10-month subscription to Game Informer magazine.

Beginning March 1st, this card will no longer be offered. It will be replaced by the "More" card. For $15, you get:

%10 discount detailed above for one year
One-year sub to Game Informer
Extra %10 value on your trade-ins (I don't know if this will be stackable with other trade promotions)

Just thought I'd give everyone a heads up. I ddn't see it posted yet, but if this has been, lemme know.

This really isn't worth it considering that eb now has their discount card at $5. Personally I always thought GI was a crappy magazine anyways.
Thanks for the heads up Led. That's not too bad, but I definitely prefer the $10 one.
Me too, I actually got the card for around 7$, I don't know why but the dude that sold it to me said if I bought it from him he'd sell it to me for less. I guess he was really desperate for card sales?

Sometimes they pitch it that way if you buy a used game when you get the card. It happened to me. Instead of "you get $3 off your used purchase" it was "it's only $7 for the card." Just a possibility...

I fuckin hate my job; we'll get even LESS subscriptions because of this because less people trade in shit than buy shit, and now corporate will be even MORE up our ass about subscriptions.

what a bull crap card gamestop is offering. 10% more for trade ins? please...its just a pitch. Plus, you know they will lesser their trade in values to accomidate the 10% anyway, so f you gamestop.

wow it pays for itself after i buy $150 of used stuff at gamestop!

eb lowers the price and gamestop raises it?
wth?

i dont know about that...10% is a small percentage on the already small amount they will give you for trading in a game...im sure they wont mind paying you $2.75 for a game instead of $2.50

Yeah eb just pretty much continues to get more of my bussiness

id have to say that i cant understand how gamestops are still in business...they almost never have good deals on games, even their used games are over priced 90% of the time...i thought $10 for the card was alot, since their prices were so high, and raising that wont help anything.

the only good thing about gamestop is their online division...

Same here. I used to love GS. Every time I go in there now I see their higher prices than EB (which in itself is pretty bad), and not to mention the employees don't know jack about anything they sell. I know this isn't true for all GS, but it is in my case. I bought an Edge card yesterday at EB and it seems like I get much better deals there. I had the GS 10% off card, but it expires this month. I won't be renewing that one.

I doubt I'll be buying the new card once my current one expires. $10 was enough, $5 extra for nothing is BS. I've been shopping @ GS more than EB lately because I have been able to find a lot of cheap guides and some decent deals on PS1 games. EB's card is a much better bargain.

Thanks for the heads up Led. Though I tend to agree with the general sentiment of the thread.

I wish GS.com would follow EB and guarantee case and manual for current gen stuff. I guess it'd be a pain to switch to that in the middle of a gen, hopefully they'll seriously consider doing this from the get go with the next gen systems.

That and allow stackable coupons on the site.

With the price that they're asking, you can basically pay for a 1 year subscription to GI if you ordered through gameinformer.com. But even Game Crazy's is better, especially with the fact that you can get a subscription of Official US Playstation magazine with that(so that means you get a demo disc).

Also, now it mentions a extra 10% on trades, does that include if you want cash?

Unfortunately for me I have no Electronics Boutiques in my vicinity and yet I have around 10 GameStops. The nearest EBs are around a half hour freeway commute away on the literal outskirts of the city. I guess that's why GameStop is still doing such great business in my area... I honestly can't believe that the San Fernando Valley does not even have a single Electronics Boutique within its main shopping areas when our population would rank us as the 5th largest city in the nation...

Same here my closest EB is about half hour drive away. But that's alright I just order from their website 95% of the time anyways. The only downside is notbeing able to see the disc, box, and manual condition but the few times I've had problems with the condition I just take them back to the store no problem. Plus you have up to 30 days so it's a given I'll be over that way at least once a month.

Also is that extra %10 stackable? If you could get an extra dolla or two + $10(trade in 3 get an extra $10) that would pay for itself in just about one fell swoop.

I was already kind of ticked that I had their card when it was $10 cause I hardly ever used it because basically like everyone said already, even with the card their trade in value is too low and used prices are too high. This pretty much seals the deal of me not renewing my card now.

Lately it seems like of all my discount club memberships (gamecrazy, eb, and gamestop), I'm getting the most use out of my EB one because they offer the best deals lately.

The best thing about EB (especially EBgames.com) is that most coupons stack. I do most of my shopping online and the fact that you can't get free shipping and 10% at Gamestop.com just kills most of their prices. Whereas at EB you can get 10% plus 15% plus free shipping. It's easy to see why I get most of my used games their. Plus like I said their easy return policy makes it even better.

The only thing I ever found Gamestop was good for (at least my GSs) as compared to EB was for the PS1 games. That 10% card worked wonder for me. The two GS I lived by had great PS1 selections, and I was able to pick up Suikoden II, Tales of Destiny 1/2 (wish I hadn't sold them), and other rare games for less than $30. I definitely got my mileage out of the card.

One thing I liked about EB's Edge card and hate about GS's card is that you can't use it online. If they ever changed their site so you could use it, I'd buy the card. But I'd like to see how much GI's subscriber numbers go down when this takes effect.

Exactly. I'm not sure about gamestop but with gamecrazy they absolutely refuse to stack any offers. With them charging $19.99 for ayear of their membership, they better stack with every damn thing you can imagine. Eb's is $5 and it stacks with every offer and coupon, online and offline. You just can't beat that kind of value.

Make mine EB.

I always laugh when they send me a subscription renewal card for Game Informer. "You want me to spend how much for this POS?"

Paying an extra $5 so I can get more money back.

I'd say the game informer might be worth it if I ever got 1/2 the issues and if they didn't come clumped 3 months worth at a time.
Thanks for the heads up Led. Though I tend to agree with the general sentiment of the thread.
So do I frankly. At least you don't have to worry about selling the damn thing.

How is Game Informer magazine compared to other magazines? I have a free subscription to Gamepro but it sucks. Just wondering because I might try to get the card before the end of this month even though I dont buy a lot of used games at GS.

I thought it was an alright deal last time, with a GI subscription and a card for $10, but $15 is just too high. I'll probably just buy the Edge card when my current cards expire.

I don't envy you that. I'm fairly certain I'd be horrible at selling those things.

It's okay, but the scores they give are basically what a basic gamer would give. It does get a lot of exclusive cover stories though. But EGM is a lot more professional than Game Informer.

Game Informer is a terrible magazine. It used to be good several years back but it seems that ever since GS bought Funcoland, it's been horrible. That is all.

Game informer isn't a horrible magazine, its not the best, but its not the worst either.

Anyways, the trade in deals are not stackable with other trade in deals. But the 10% off is stackable with all the other sales (which there arnt many, pretty much just b2g1) I think they should have kept the price at $10, It's hard enough to get subs as it is, and now that it's more expensive, I'll get even less. :(

while ebgames is 50, but this has 10 more in trade in's...

The only reason I even have a Gamestop card myself is because they enticed me during a B2G1 free used deal. They basically told me they'd give me a game informer additional 10% off coupon and 10% off the current purchase from the card. So in the end I made a few cents on taking the card. Guess how many times I've used it since that day? :)

Ha, basically the same thing that happened to me. I think the card did end up costing me like 85 cents or something (I remember it was less than a dollar) because of the discount it gave me off stuff I was buying. I've used it a couple times since then, saving about $3 total. So I guess the card hasn't really been terrible to me, but I'd only want it if it was free.
