Gamestop ripping us off.....

CAGiversary!
I was at the mall this morning, so i stopped by gamestop. I saw here that some used prices had changed and wanted to see if trade in prices on those games went up. I checked marvel vs. capcom 2 was 34.99 xbox and 39.99 ps2 now 49.99 on both systems. Sure enough the trade in value is the same. air force delta storm for the xbox was 27.99 now 44.99, once again trade in value is the same.

I don't understand how the value of a used game goes up? Gamestop paid someone X amount for the game, therefore there cost did not rise, so why should the cost go up? If the trade in value was increased i would understand.

I asked the manager why the price went up on mvc2 for ps2, he responded by saying " the game is rare it goes for 50-60 on ebay so why should'nt we ask 50". I told him at least on ebay i can make sure I get a mint copy with manual and case instead of there no instruction scratched up copy.

Funny thing is eb's price on the games mentioned is the same. I wonder if gamestop is switching over to Eb's prices now that they own them?

thats why you don't see sealed copies of cubivore/rhapsody/persona 2/resident evil 2 and 3 gamecube anywhere. They can sell used games at whatever price they want, but new is generally set by the manufacturer.

oh ya, gamestop is ripping us off terribly. They have over head to meet, and i promise you they arent making any money on those wonderful xbox 360 preorders anyway, so they gotta make it up somewhere.

Silly thread, GS does have some odd prices sometimes. I bought a new copy of MVC 2 for $40 while the store had a used copy on the shelf for $55. Try explaining that, I even asked if it was a price mistake.

It was in the main deals forum, and I moved it. This is the right forum, and I moved it before you posted.

What's up with you in the past few days?

Go bug other people and stop trying to police CAG all on your own.

The ironing is delicious.

I remember when they sold the Sega GT/Jet Set Radio Future two-pack for the Xbox (that came free with systems) for $100 at my Gamestop. I asked about it to make sure, and they said "Yeah, two games, each are $50 separately."

$39.99 is the retail price for the new copy. To tell you the truth, I'm very surprised you still found a new copy of the game after it went OOP. That is why the used copy is $54.99.

I think the OP is bragging about not buying games for a price he feels is too high.

But yeah, bonus points for everybody who knows about capitalism and such.

The only time they're "ripping you off" is when they force you to buy games. That's never happened to me before.

aint that the truth man i was going to get one of at least 4 mint non gh copies of final fantasy VII. usually i would see them for about ten bucks but then they doubled the price still a good price but it did go up

So, do you always just make shit up, or was this a recent development?

/worked at GameStop the last 4 years, the 2-pack was never that price

Game, set and match to Led.:D

If I felt as if people on this forum would actually from time to time take a little *thought* mbefore they start slandering buissnesses, that would be cool, maybe i'd stick around for longer stints, but at the moment, this happened to be the first post i saw and....c'mkon kids...*It's Getting Old!*...*sigh*

I mean, aside from the complete bs, is the halfass'd bs of naming a thread retailer A when retailer B is held just as guilty. (and it's the same damned retailer now anyway, tbw).

please, you buy a pez dispenser in 1963 for .75cents, and it's always supposed to have that resale value? I think not, at some point, it becomes more rare, and in case you haven't noticed, in retail everything goes up in price around the holidays anyway, so don't play shocked. As for trade-in values, once a car leaves the lot it depriciates in value twenty-fold, you just don't pay as much for a new as an old car, same with games.

I swear, if people are so ignorant and quick to be angry at "the man", am I at least entitled to be frustrated at their ignorance?...uhhhg....I really do try to let it roll off my back as much as possible, but it's just so incredibly pointless!

I guess, by the same logic, all those copies of Madden 2002 they bought in September 2001 for $25 store credit should still be going for $44.99 used, right?

Offtopic: Damn funny sig pic.

Ontopic: I bought my MVC2 from Game Crazy for $28.XX after tax last week.

I suppose the moral of the post for the OP is to look someplace else if you don't like the prices.

Gamestop isn't trying to rip anybody off. They're trying to charge as much as possible for the goods they sell. It's the joy of running a business.

No. Madden 2002 lost value. Marvel vs. Capcom 2 gained value. By your logic, I should be able to buy a 1960s Porsche for three pubic hairs.

Oh, I get it. They should only cut prices, not increase them, because hey, it's not like they're a business and are trying to make money by charging what people will pay or anything...
